My CC contest entry for this year is a course heavily inspired by Donald Ross and his style of course architecture. The course takes massive inspiration from both Beverly Country Club and Skokie Country Club, two Donald Ross parkland gems that have recently been restored/renovated.
The course is laid out in a long and narrow, lush parkland setting where both nines play on opposite sides of the clubhouse. The holes are varied and all but one are recognised templates, 8 being the one hole that is somewhat original... With the course being in this style don't expect grand views and ultimate "framing" per hole, that's not what this is. Just pure golf on a very average piece of land. I always enjoy the challenge of trying to make interesting golf on unexcitable land.
I'm not going to list any of the templates (except my nominated requirement hole) in here so that those who enjoy that sort of thing have have a bit of on course trivia to play along with, trying to decipher the templates hole by hole.
The required elements for this course are: Drivable par 4 - 12th hole Par 3 under 125yds - 13th hole Blind tee shot - 7th hole Template hole - 12th (Leven) Course within 1,000,000yd area.
Below are a couple of flyovers for the two courses which inspired this design so you can grasp what I was going for.
Enjoy.

Just love me a Donald Ross inspired course and you did not disappoint! The bunkering is so spot on and the greens......just awesome. It was just a fun round of golf! It may not be the most exciting piece of land, but that is what Donald Ross did to his courses, made them challenging and easy on the eye to look at. Great work Joe! Good luck in the contest!

It takes a massive amount of confidence to make a course and literally name it Donald Ross GC. All the extra scrutiny that adds, and all the extra research that requires to pull off is something else, and you definitely pulled it off

Played and enjoyed! Love this classic stuff. I think Mr. Ross would have approved. The homage to Beverly CC on the front 9 incl. the east/west ridgeline was really well done. Loved the short 4 with greenside mounding and short 3 with creek on the back. Good luck in the contest.

Every inch of this course is immaculate. The sculpting is gorgeous, the look and visuals are simplistic but beautiful and the bunkering is stupid good. Easily one of the best courses I've played in this game - incredible work Joe

Well well Joe , you have a unique place in our world of nerds by creating stunning masterpieces of golf architecture in such a simple way . Every single hole has a unique place within the course , every shot needs contemplation and execution . There is no need for fancy planting , fancy lighting or anything else . This is a stunning piece of work . I shall be playing this again and again and recognised many of the templates that you used without making it look or feel obvious. This is Golf for the purist and a wonderful entry into the CC Contest . if any course deserves to win and "Golf Design" competition then it is this course without any doubt . Apologies to any of the others i have favourited recently but this course supersedes them all in my opinion . Thanks Joe for this masterpiece . Cy

Fazio would be proud.
The "square footage" contest limitation chosen here only adds to the course strength with this routing and 12 might be the most unique leven I've seen. Great work comrade.

My Goal is now to out Ross you!
Just kidding, as I am not sure I could pull that off, but I am doing a Ross inspired course as well. Played the front 9 and thought it was great, and very interesting to see your perspective. Looking forward to playing the second 9 later today. Would like to hear your take on my course when done, for which I need to get my arse moving and finish planting!

Not an overall fan of the template stuff but you always seem to try to change my mind with what you put out there. Great course Joe. Really enjoyed this.

Looking forward to seeing how wrong I am. Asterisks are ones where I'm really not sure.
1 - Narrows 2 - Prize Dogleg 3 - CC appropriate Eden 4 - Bottle* 5 - Valley 6 - Knoll* 7 - Hog's Back 8 - Steamshovel* / Original 9 - Alps* - probably would have gone Leven if not for the hidden bunker (and the 12th). 10 - Punchbowl - those two little guiding mounds just in front of pin 2 make me happy. 11 - Plateau 12 - Leven - tbh, not sure I'd have called this if you hadn't listed it in the OP. I was between Leven and a twist on a Double Plateau here. 13 - Short 14 - Maiden (could be a Double Plateau depending on your interpretation) 15 - Reverse Redan 16 - Triple tiered monstrosity. A.k.a. Long 17 - Cape 18 - Switchback? Would have said Prize Dogleg, but I've used that on 2 and I'm completely stumped by that if not lol. Great hole though, the bunkering and greensite are so pure.
As ever, the course is just a blast and reveals more with each pinset. Definitely CC appropriate, yet with enough strategy to give you the choice to plot your way around if that's what you're after. The greens are quality and definitely made me feel like I was playing a Ross course. I think my favourite holes were 4, 8, 12, 13 and 18, but they're all really interesting. Best of luck with the contest!
