Welcome to week 47.
You get to run the gambit this week on green speeds as it goes from 144 to 187 and everything in between! Course plays soft early, but firms up towards the end!
Good luck!

1. Fairly straight away first hole…. Left side sets up a better approach. A solid drive should leave you about 150 in or less depending on the wind…. Headwind could make it deceptively long, but if you stay in the short stuff, you should be able to drop the ball on the green where you need to.
2. Usually you will not find a par 4 like this in the first couple holes… The best advice that I can give is not to hit it in the rough or it absolutely is a three shot approach. Even smoking your drive will leave a hybrid or more to the Green, which is over a nasty hazard in tightly guarded by bunkers. Bogey is not a bad score here. The back left pin placement is pure wtf juice. My plan is to just draw it up to the short part of the green and run it on. Just live with the 30 to 40 foot putt.
3. No tricks here after that last beast… check your tempo and attack the pin.
4. This hole is full of tricks though. First beware the default club selection and wind. You will be hard-pressed to reach the green in two going 3W/3W. The bunkers do present a challenge on driver placement. If your tempo is poor and you missed the fairway you will have to lay up. The front Bunker will make a mess your approach is well. Easy to begin to chase and wind up at double or triple with some bad shot decisions here. Double is my best score here.
5. Big hitters might find a way to hit through the fairway unless they really attack the top of that Sandtrap on the right. A good drive will put you with a tricky distance to really get over that front bunker. Likely 3W/hybrid with no attack angle. This is one instance where you might as well go for it and if the bunker catches you, blast out and work for your birdie or par.
6. 3W off the tee is safe, but driver will be rewarded with a lob or pitch opportunity to get it close. Elevated green to take into consideration if you were hitting anything longer than a wedge.
7. Longer par three… Recommend giving an extra club if there’s any wind to avoid getting eaten up by the false front or sand traps.
8. The left side of the green will kick anything left or long so don’t expect the best results unless you hit something that is over top of that sand trap. You probably will keep the same score if you just lay up with a hybrid or 3W to a distance and attack the pin from there. Then again when I redid this in round one I got a little bouldering put a drive right on the back fringe which I chipped in for eagle, so that could all be just a bunch of gas.
9. Lots of safe spaces… The hole will play extremely short if you avoid the rough or that stupid bunker in the middle. Do you want to have a short approach because a long one will bring A number of issues into play. First obviously the bunker to the left. Second anything a little writing long will runoff into that depression which will make an up and down a little bit more challenging. Third the green is fairly large and doesn’t have a flat spot on it so any putt will take some planning.
10. Poor drive here left me about 200 yards into the green fortunately from the fairway. As always that is the best place to recover from. A good drive here probably has a little bit of a fade to it and leaves a wedge home. Another large green with a false front to work with. Let the wind and loft work you to the right part of it.
11. Club if there is any significant wind. The distance it was giving me was 157 so I played 166 and still ended up just barely making the front left of the green. Recommend fading it around that bunker as well.
12. The drive isn’t too complicated here as your target should be left of that far out Sandtrap but going too long or too right will leave you a brutal approach over that front green Sandtrap. Getting the right spin action and wind read on the approaches where the money will be made on this hole.
13. Those stupid trees right in front of you are probably not too helpful maintaining tempo. A little fast with the driver wasn’t punished too badly. The green is wide but not very deep depending on your approach angle. While the designer here has not given you too much to deal with as far is stance penalties, there are some pretty interesting combinations of hazard, wind, and target depth. From what I have experienced so far, there are some pretty severe penalties hitting the rough so take what the designer is giving you with favorably wide fairways.
14. Daunting look. Nasty ridge down the middle. Pick a safe spot and keep your tempo true. If you miss, pitching back across the green is not a lot of fun.
15. This looks like a good opportunity for eagle. The drive gives you multiple options depending on the wind and distance; The approach is pretty straight away and only modestly protected. Should be reachable with a hybrid with a really good drive and definitely a 3W with anything except A headwind. I hit three terrible shots and still had a tap in for par.
16. So there are a couple decisions to be made as to whether or not driver or 3W Will give you the best approach angle into the green. It’s another doozy of an approach with that front bunker. The designer is rewarding distance of the tea which would leave you with a much more lofted club on your approach or hitting into safety and two-putting. Middle fairway bunker- it’s about 290.
17. Mickey Mouse shaped green with a false front to protect against slight mishits. The front landing area is flat which should help with some birdies.
18. The fairway and green or not that difficult to find. The drive will favor slight draw in the approach is basically anyway you know how to get it there. There is a large ridge in the middle of the green which will create some tricky lag putts.
Even par after nine holes, despite having not touched a controller in about two weeks. That’s good news. Closed Birdie/Birdie. The par fives and a couple the par threes should see some pretty low scores. There’s only two par fours that I felt like were really “Birdie” holes, and most will make it work for that par.
Came back and played Round 1 -5. Some of my results were eerily similar, many of the same misses and hits. One thing that I had noticed today was that I was not getting nearly as many lip outs, and as a matter fact had three fortuitous toilet bowl drops. Not sure if that was skill, dumb luck or something changing in the game mechanics. Given that there are not many true penalty zones on this course I sense that the scores will be pretty low, particularly from the top players. Some of us scramblers will be fighting those green side bunkers. Firmer conditions will make distance and placement more critical in the later rounds.

Finally got demoted to CC-D and fittingly opened up with a +5. Pardon me as I continue toward the bottom of the alphabet. At least on XSX I can count on only having to play 2 rds. So there's that.

Absolutley could not find a putt in round one and first 9 of round two , but lit up the back nine to post a 65 and Minus 4 in CC-H . Some tough holes and pins on this one . Fairways and greens type of week for sure . Cy

Tempo really bad. Been quite good with that recently with only the odd red fast and a few perfects but so many red fasts here I lost count. Putting had to be spot on and it was mostly. Surprisingly as they were slowwwwwwww. Still preferable to 187s for me.

Beautiful course, but I did awful. played tired and not feeling great on both rounds, and had tempo issues every hole.
Oddly, round 1 on monday, I had 30% accuracy and 30 some putts and an awful score.
round 2 on Tuesday, still tired, still tempo issues, but managed 92% accuracy and 20 some putts, what I hope for usually.... but still ended up with the same score. go figure.
Edit: I just realized that I think that accuracy thing is driving accuracy only. So in round 2 the tempo issues were all hitting on the second shot, making it take three to get to the green instead of two shots. first shot and putting were great, but that extra shot was in the middle. mystery solved!

My patented fully lofted top spin shot. I am a genius.
I might have found it less amusing if I'd missed the cut by one shot...

Like the course. Some of the holes play quite long and some of the pin positions in R2 were quite challenging.
I posted a 65-66 (-9) through two rounds to comfortably make my first cut in CC-E. Through 36 holes I've had just 2 bogeys and one double-bog. Makes a massive difference not throwing away shots.
Both my driver and putter were on song. 92% then 85% driving. 22 and 24 putts which for me is great. I don't feel I could have played too much better for where I am at. I think CC-E is my home for now

Ahhh missed the cut!!! Took a total of 7 shots in 2 greenside bunkers. Those short partial bunker shots are brutal. Yeahhhh I know don't hit it in there. Played alright otherwise.

Through 3 rounds I'm +1 for the first 7 holes and -19 for the rest. I don't actually feel like I've played particularly well and yet currently just inside the top 20 in CCA. If I can just string one good round together....

After coming out of the gates all guns blazing to end up -11 after two, in the top 10 (at least when I looked), I shot a boring 70 in the third, but still hanging on to 20th, fun week, taking my time, enjoying the ups and downs of the rounds. Came within 6 inches of an albatross.

I am not one to often take practice shots. However after being burnt by splash shots in the bunker many times, this is the one shot type I make sure I have 2-3 practice swings before taking the shot. Slow down swing and not too fast on the way up helps. I settle for anything fast/slow grey.

One thing that I found works for me in those cases is the change clubs then change back (if you want LW, switch to GW then back to LW). I found that this, along with accepting being out a long over short and still in the sand, has helped me to avoid that type of result. Had a good but totally meh week, making the cut but never threatening a greenie. Mid table finish, yawn. Onward!
