I know people look at the lavish lifestyle that staff members of tgctours have a sometimes think that maybe we are greedy, selfish and focus only on our personal gains but we have a kind hearted side, a generous side also and this week on the Kinetic, you will see just that. This week, the Kinetic gives back, I have decided that 20 percent of all your winnings will go to charity. Oh how I wish I played on the Kinetic so I could give some money as well, alas, it is not to be since I am just a lowly challenge circuit player. There are many fantastic charities out there and deciding which one to give to was really difficult. I went trough lists of charities such as The Nigerian Prince Immigration Fund, Witch Doctors Without Borders, The Legalize Cannibals Association, The Flat Moon Society, I finally decided to give to The International Introvert Initiative but it turns out it has closed it doors when no one turned up to the first meeting. I then found a charity that I think we can all can get behind, a charity that is close to all out hearts, The Society for the Prevention of Fiddlers Elbow.
Fiddlers Elbow is a new affliction that is a direct result of Covid-19. For over a year and a half, pubs have been closed here in Ireland which had a direct effect on traditional Irish music sessions and all those that play at such sessions, the hardest hit were the fiddlers, not only were they losing income, they were developing a weakness of the elbow that could effect future incomes and could have deadly consequences. As you all know, after playing(or taking a break during) in a traditional Irish music session, the fiddler heads to the bar for a pint, while at the bar, he leans with his elbow on the bar while his other arm holds his pint, this allows him both to drink and survey the pub for any fiddler groupies that may be available for a different type of fiddling. But what you may not have known, is that by placing his or her elbow on the bar, it reduces the strain that may have occurred on the elbow during the music session, and also helps the fiddlers develop beer stained calluses that gives the elbow extra power and strength, allowing them the fiddle long into the night. Now though, with the pubs being closed, they have started to develop Fiddlers Elbow, a weakening of the elbow bone and the mussels surrounding it and they need help.
I have decided that giving the money directly to the fiddlers would not be good as I am sure they would just spend it on drink and hookers, so the best course of action with be to give the money to the pub owners instead. I have carefully selected a number of pubs here in Cork which will allow them to reinforce their bars so when the pubs open and the music plays once again, they will be ready for fiddlers of all shapes and sizes, oh and out of the kindness of their hearts, they owners have said, the Kinetic tour schedulers will never have to pay for a drink in their pubs again. There was not need for them to say this but it just show how good deeds and kindness spreads.
This weeks event was supposed to be in Dallas, but instead, I wanted one of the best Irish designers out there cathalos1991 to design a special course called Fiddlers Elbow especially for this charity event, unfortunately he was not available so I went with aeastwood54 instead, who then managed to screw up by designing a course based on holes from courses in the Irish Midlands instead of based on holes from courses in Cork. To late to change anything now, so enjoy, good luck, and have fun knowing that your playing this weeks, is contributing to a good cause.
