Another cracking course choice, looks straightforward but don’t be fooled, you’ve got to concentrate on where you land the ball on the green.
Be VERY careful of the out of bounds on the last few holes, the direct route is staked.

Appreciate the opportunity to play some isle links this week. Might have been inspired by Morikawa this morning and played my final tune up -7 with one inexplicable bogey with a missed gimmie from 6 feet.
1. Wide open starting hole help fight jitters. If you go right side, you can use the terracing of the green to stop your approach. If you hit the left side, it is a little trickier as going too far right or left can leave you running right, or with a runaway downhill putt. A ball that land short will kick the same direction the green is terraced so pick your spot wisely. Nearly holed out the time I red fasted a drive 190 because I caught a funny kick just short of the green.
2. Another wide-open drive, albeit the landing zone is much tighter. The green is pretty small and flat and should yield many Birdie opportunities. Don’t try to over complicate your approach shot.
3. The wall will come in to play if you mash a tail wind. It could be a slightly complex approach if the ball is above your feet with the wind coming off the ocean but similar to the second hole it’s us more green with a little bit more roll, but should yield some birdies. 4. Wind and club selection will be absolutely critical for this longish par three. The bunkers don’t give you a lot of bail out for tempo issues either. Back pin position obviously be a little bit more challenging in round one, and coming up short of the top-tier will leave a difficult lag putt. The side Hills will short side you almost every pin position in this tournament, difficult chips from every direction.
5. You should be able to clear both fairway bunkers pretty easily with your driver. My initial note is that the default club selection is 3W. Not much to handle on your approach shot either. Green has some mild slope but nothing that can’t be chipped or putt through very easily. I have best results taking a little bit off my sand wedge with some good spin and was leaving myself 3 to 5 feet for tap ins.
6. Hitting the front bunker will make a par very difficult. The green has just enough slope to it to make 10 to 15 footers difficult, and it is deep enough to require a partial gap or pitching wedge splash to get out of. Some of the pins are cut on sloped sections, so make sure you leave yourself uphill.
7. Another fairly open driving hole. Approach will definitely be in your pitch range, but the ridge going down the middle of the green could put you on the wrong half if you missed judge the wind or have a tempo flareup.
8. Slightly narrower on your drive, but if you keep it in the fairway you can definitely drive down a low score here… missed my albatross by 4 inches with a 3W.
9. Risk/reward trying to get around the fairway bunkers. Left certainly brings in a lot of trouble for a fast shot, But if it stays true cuts down the distance considerably and leave an iron into the green for a potential second Straight eagle. Going to the right side is certainly safer but if you hit the rough you’re definitely laying up. You will get some funny hops around those sand traps too so beware. The green is pretty well protected so make sure you grab the right club and take a couple practice swings. Tall grass will eat up balls.
10. Favors a draw… get the distance and this is another bird. Right side of the green has a little bit more texture and will leave tougher putts to read.
11. Short par five and I don’t really see how they’re going to keep the scores from getting low on this one. The landing area is not particularly tight though it does have some heavy rough and bunkers to contend with. Narrow deep green, so I opted for a run up shot with the hybrid that got pretty close. The pros are going to play this four-hole turn at about five under par, barring heavy wind.
12. Don’t try to muscle the bunkers as 280 to 300 yards will put you in wedge range anyways. Some tiers and flow to the green but with the right amount of loft/spin it shouldn’t come in to play.
13. Where the hell are we, East Berlin? The wall cutting across the fairway will certainly psych you out a little bit. This was my first real mess of the round. Fast drive that somehow held the fairway at about 220 yards followed by a nasty hook onto the beach… still almost made it up and down As the green is a nice little Soup Bowl. shanked in approach one time and ended up hitting through one of the gates and a chip down which was pretty hilarious.
14. You can try your approach from the adjacent green if you prefer but recommend trying to stick the fairway which is pretty open. If you’re hitting a big dog like the Bridgestone and catch it clean you can definitely put it in the first bunker. Green is flat In case you misjudged your approach.
15. Pretty big mound on the green to protect against straight line approaches to certain pin locations. Looks a little bit easier than it is make sure you shape your shot to go into the hump rather than landing on the hump and letting it run away. If you hit near the back it is difficult to hold.
16. The first hole that really confused my approach off the tee. The creek will force you to play short of a driver but that will also leave 200 yards into the green. If you miss the fairway you are toast because that front bunker will eat you up. The green also has a giant chasm that will float any slightly wayward shots far far away from the pin. Be conservative and make sure you hit the fairway so that you can properly plan that approach. The first couple rounds I played I did not even realize they were out of bounds stakes on this hole which totally throws everything into some sort of conundrum.
17. Don’t get confused as to where you should hit this drive. If there isn’t a strong wind coming off the beach and definitely hit to the other fairway on the left side which is much wider and will let your ball run out much further. Not too much to challenge on the approach into a small green. Got some wacky putts on this hole as well.
18. LOL! I recognize this hole. Great, wide-open finishing effort that should lead to many low scores.
My immediate assessment is that there will be a number of rounds in the 50s. It will really come down to how tricky they can make it with the wind to take the free drives that I was experiencing out of the equation. Started of with a -5, then spent 2 days in tempo hell at Schwarzwald fighting par saves here, but hoping that everything has been ironed out with that -7 (was -6 through 9, then played 7 straight pars before finishing bogey/eagle).

OMG.... so the 15 min I took to post the analysis before heading off for round one completely froze me. Tried a 3W tee shot on 1 and got Very Fast and barely got past the forward tees. Smashed another 3W onto the steep hill down from the green and somehow lofted a 96 yard pitch in to get in bogey position. From there, I was able to extract my head from my ass and play the next 17 -7. This game will sneak up on you when you least expect it...

I had a decent 1st round and was doing well up until Hole 16 in round 2. I go right fairway and balls rolls past the fairway and into the rough for on OB...So like an idiot I never checked the OB area as I thought it was just the rough area past the fairway....so I take less club and hit the middle of the fairway and was getting ready for my next shot when OB pops up again., lol, ...now I finally look at the OB area for my 5th shot....I was then demoralized and ruined my tourney on one freaking hole...I card a 10 on 16 and will now be in cut line chasing area. Oh well, my bad for not looking.......what sucks is I play Tru Sim and always look at the fairways with the map.....you live and learn.

My first week in CC-E looks to be awful. 72-67 to have me at -3 through the first two rounds. I don't think I make the cut with that and nor should I.
Made a relatively straight forward course look very tough. I didn't play a practice round which cost me on the 16th, when I flushed a perfect drive into the OB area where I was aiming.............. (double bogey - yay)
Timing was way off particularly with driver, and on this course its pretty important to have the big stick going well to post a good score. Basically I just rushed my preparation and gameplay, and paid the price.

Hole 16 everyone be real careful the game lines you up right off the T box out of bounds got me for a couple strokes.. WHY DID I NOT READ THIS BEFORE I PLAYED MY FIRST ROUND?? I think the appropriate question is why in the hell did this designer put a fairway right along the hole as OB, and then to add insult to injury make the aim point directly down the OB fairway? Cheap "gotcha" trick
