Welcome to Sattler Heads.
This 36 hole complex is inspired by three courses I’ve played in real life - the two courses at Barnbougle Dunes and Barwon Heads Golf Club; all based in Australia. The golfing experience at Barnbougle is one I will always remember (and plan to have again) as it’s not just the natural scenery, long views and stunning golf holes that make it so memorable but it’s also the people that own and run it. Richard Sattler, a potato farmer that built two of Australia’s best public access golf courses makes a point of meeting many of his guests and is one of the most down to earth Aussies who just loves a beer and a laugh. He’s not a golfer himself but handed over his magnificent property to Tom Doak & Mike Clayton (The Dunes) and subsequently, Bill Coore for the steeper and more dramatic landscape of the Lost Farm course. What they have created is an environment that is the envy of golfers worldwide. Sattler Heads is my attempt to take a similar piece of land, split by a river and inlet and build two 18 hole dunes courses to the North and South of the river. Similar to the Barnbougle landscape, the Blue course has more subtle undulations and elevations while the Black course is far more dramatic and in turn, difficult. Both courses were planted with a scheme inspired by both Barnbougle and Barwon Heads Golf Club.
The Blue course (Sattler Heads - Blue) is my entry to the CC competition while the Black course was an opportunity I didn’t want to pass up as I really enjoy making a more difficult course - especially on a plot like this. The two courses intertwine for a few holes but they definitely play significantly differently before finishing side by side on their respective 18th holes. I believe these are comfortably the best and most enjoyable courses I’ve made in the game so far and hopefully that shows (?). There’s very little off course stuff here but you will find Richard Sattler’s fictional home at the back of the 8th, accommodation cabins along the 16th as well as practice facilities and a clubhouse that has everything you’d need.
Anyway, here’s the quick promo….
And here’s a routing pic….
mattf27 - Is there a form or something where we stick the required elements etc?
