Welcome to week 43 at Talaria Golf Club by patlouvarShould be a nice relaxing week for you folks... low winds for the first 3, and firm and fast conditions should make this course play very nicely. Hopefully the round 4 default gods take pity on you as well and don't do anything to crazy! Good Luck!

Hey guys! Grounds crew have been hard at work preparing for this week's event so the course should be in great shape! Fairways are narrow but you're not in trouble if you miss them as the course plays pretty short. These greens can be tricky too but for every slope that's hurting you there should be one that's helping. Take your time calculating your approach shots and have fun!
Happy bird hunting!

I get to spend the week in Oklahoma, so had to knock out practice and first two rounds over the weekend.
1. Not much to say other than don’t hit the trap. Fairway should make it a very straightforward approach into a wide-open green. If you are in the rough, a run up shot is also available.
2. Another run or bounce up opportunity, but much tighter. Gauge the wind, but play safe… green is pretty simple. Got caught up in the bunker once and short sided myself which led to a disaster double bogey.
3. Strategic bunkers to take into account on each of first two shots. A good poke off the tee will open for eagle. Pin 1, make sure you work the left side of the green… very flat. Into the wind it may be better to play the second shot to a number that you were comfortable with, as opposed to trying to fly that Sandtrap.
4. Another strategically placed bunker for typical driving effort. There is a huge ridge at the left front of the green to prevent roll ups to the pin. Definitely a free bird. Just don’t go wayward sideways.
5. Made a meal out of this hole by not respecting the authority of those trees. The whole looks pretty open with the exception of a tight fairway, but the trees will basically force a punch out if you are not careful. Once again, you can buy a little luck if you are comfortable with the run ups... Rough here is typically 70%.
6. The creek is in play for a long tailwind drive. If you choose to lay up in the 200 to 250 range, The green will certainly except a bump and run, but this one has vastly significant topography that will hinder longer putts. Front pin placements will be fun though.
7. Like five this will be a tricky driving hole. Shape your shot and feel free to take a couple percent off of it to keep from running through. Will definitely favor a draw. Lost a pretty good birdie opportunity here by not adding a little spin to my nine iron approach.
8. Not sure if it is me or the game but man I am experiencing some weird lag issues…. Lots of jumpiness as my putt rolls across The Green…. Amazed that my score is not suffering because of it. Lots of danger to the right, so this one would definitely favor a high fade to the middle of the green and let it trickle down to wherever the pin is.
9. Don’t slack because it is a short par five… lots of places to ruin the score. 95% driver with a little fade is probably the best play. If you go for it though and try to crank it up over 310 you will take that tree out of play and have a pretty wide-open approach with a middle iron. Front bunker will guard against a fairway wood approach with any mishit.
10. This whole lays out a little bit like the first hole. Battled chronic bloody noses in the first round but seem to have kept the tempo pretty solid to get between these bunkers. That leaves a wedge or nine iron in. False front here will prevent the short shots from being effective.
11. I would say the rough here is not very accommodating but then again I nearly holed out my eight iron from 140 yards so I may need a few more data points on this guy. If you play your shot correctly typical driving distance should filter in and track right between the two bunkers.
12. Very long par three. Even with a tailwind hybrid is a slim chance of being able to bump and run on. Stay 3W and shape it. Par is not a bad score here.
13. Play your best club off the tee here, but if you want to hit driver, better cap it at about 85%. If you are long you want to be right. Pin positions can leave some awfully long putts here.
14. You will have some massive processing issues on Xbox if you hit down into the wasteland on the left. Felt like my game had developed Parkinson’s. Despite the bad results I feel like there is no excuse not to try to drive this green. My results on the other hand have been comical. I feel like I’ve given back at least one stroke per round here.
15. Yeah the shadows in the wind and sun angle are making things messy. Definitely use a high approach angle with a little bit of spin to make sure you stick your ball in the right spot… cannot imagine this playing anything more than a sand wedge under most conditions. Had an interesting event in round two where I hit the ball a little slow but with such ferocious backspin it hit the fringe and shot 20 yards back over the wooden railing into the pit.
16. Another dogleg at the distance where a well struck ball might run through or a slightly miss judged ball will find that bunker on the left. With my game I can’t think of too many instances where I would be comfortable trying to clear the creek with my second shot. I was able to lay up to my distance (94) and have a very short birdie opportunity.
17. Another opportunity to finesse different clubs for wind and pin conditions. There is a little bit of a backstop on the left side. Will play much shorter in R2.
18. Final hole can make or break your round. Difficult drive, but successful to the left center of fairway will give you great approach options… don’t let the water get in your head.
Overall this course is basically what you see is what you get. No scary elevation changes, no hidden hazards. It will work your game using your 90 to 95% shots at times as opposed to 101%. Again it may benefit your game to make sure that you have those tweener pitches down because I saw a lot in the 45 yard range. Like I mentioned... left way too many shots on the table on the short Par 4s. Between practice and tourneys, my nine hole scores would bounce between 30 and 39... definitely some opportunities if your tempo is good on the approach shots.

Is this the way everyone plays? I only ever hit full swings and make yardage changes using loft

I only ever hit full swings and make yardage changes using loft I usually try and play the way you do as well, or hitting a different style shot that will give me a closer distance to what I need/want. If I'm in between a PW (124) and 9 iron (149), sometimes I will hit a 9 iron pitch which gives me 134 yards. Or if I'm between 30 yards (splash) and 57 (pitch), I'll hit a flop shot in the 40 yard range. I've never had good success at hitting partial shots, especially on pitch shots. There's just too little room for yardage variation for me.

Played 2 rounds yesterday and my tempo was everywhere for some reason. I usually don't struggle this bad, but it was red fast or slow on 75% of my drives. I shot a -2 in round 1 and -4 in round 2 and decided to give it a break for the day and hopefully reset my tempo for later this week assuming I can make the cut CC-F. Pretty disappointed after finishing P2 last week to follow it up with a terrible start, so we'll see if I can turn it around.

Yeah, agree the partial pitches seem completely arbitrary, but sometime during the nerf, something clicked for me with the lob wedge on anything under 36 yds (~87% of 63 yds) or over 57 yards (~99% of 63)... that middle range is like no mans land. Still don't trust pitching with anything except lob or sand though. I still haven't grasped the nuances of loft for distance... I tend to use it more to mitigate wind with minor impact to distance. I'm sure I could go to the range and hit 3 dozen wedges and figure it out, but I find it easier to mover the cursor down x yards and make the perfect zone 95%. The only difference is that the subtle change would prefer a couple practice swings to synch the timing... vibration, etc should stay the same.

First 2 rounds in the bank. Disappointed with -8 & -6, couldn’t find my tempo today which is unlike me. The game was also very stuttery which I’m sure doesn’t help. The course itself is very nice with some interesting holes, particularly on the back nine

Course is laggy which messes up the swing tempo. Not really enjoyable unfortunately, cause the course looks nice.

Course is laggy which messes up the swing tempo. Not really enjoyable unfortunately, cause the course looks nice. I saw some comments about this in the society board in the game, specifically about PS4 issues. But I played the first round before work this morning, had no lagging and shot the absolute round of my life, a 59. Prior to that, I had a total of two rounds under 68 since rejoining the tour two months ago. Hope I'm not jinxing myself for the last three rounds as I'm in contention in CC-G for the first time.

I'm playing on Xbox One which makes it even tougher to get your tempo going, but i'm not willing to take that as an excuse and just keep on grinding the best i can. I wish you all the best climbing the ranks, go get em!

Course is laggy which messes up the swing tempo. Not really enjoyable unfortunately, cause the course looks nice. Round 1 wasn't too bad for me, but round 2 was almost unbearable, though I'm not sure why it would be different in each round (I'm on an older PS4). Not super jittery like Knob's Creek, but slow and laggy. Doesn't have too big of an impact on full shots, but long putts and especially partial pitch shots are basically just luck of the draw. Really fun course, though otherwise. Really like using the slopes to move the ball around on the greens. Best round ever in round 1 after a promotion to CC-H, then roller coaster in round 2 with two chip ins, an 85 foot birdie putt and a 65 foot birdie putt, then four bogeys in the last five holes to shoot +1. 8 under should at least be enough to make the cut, but we'll see.

First round 62. Headed to the 18th tee at -9 but found the water with a fast red. Managed a bogey save by getting up and down from 140 yards, but still not a nice way to finish.
I had some lag on the front 9 as a few others mentioned also. Made some really good one-putts to tick my score along. Timing can definitely improve, especially with driver.
In a good spot after the first round, so keen to see what I can come up with this week after scraping to make the cut last few weeks in CC-G.
