Wow incredibly interesting course to say the least. Very good job on all the planting, it’s super creative and looks cool. The lighting does seem a bit bright and I think it could look even better with more dramatic setting there, but overall what a cool feel. Golf wise it’s interesting for sure. Cool to see a Raynor-geometric style with template holes in this environment. Some of the holes are very well done. There are a few holes that seem incredibly tough at higher difficulties like 10 & 15 (very small landing areas). Either way, mad props for entering something so bold and unique. Thanks. I find brightness a tricky one to get right because it can be so dependent on the player's monitor / screen and brightness levels. I play and design on a near HDR monitor (so reasonably bright) and it looked OK. I also tend to towards brighter courses rather than dark lighting where I can't see anything (*cough* India *cough*). I admit 10,15 and 16 are a bit quirky to say the least.

I didn't think 14 was that bad given it is a short par 4 (unless there has been a publishing error I'm not aware of). I admit 10 and 16 are quirky to say the least. Gotcha, ya I quoted the wrong hole to begin with 14 was actually one of my favorites lol. I’m hardly one to judge either as I’m new to the community and couldn’t pull off anything nearly as good as this. Regardless those holes definitely fit the course’s feel and looked awesome. Think the brightness probably differs pretty dramatically person to person with so many different TVs and systems and sure a lot of it is personal preference. Excellent job and had a ton of fun playing it. Hard to compare to anything else being so unique.

Loved the course Ken, I don’t know if there are Tigers in Vietnam but if there is I was expecting one to jump out on me at any minute. My only downside was there are no fish in the pond outside the clubhouse, I don’t know if they could not be added because of the water table. Thanks Les. It is above the water table so fish would not work. However it is meant to be a Lotus pond as the Lotus is the national flower of Vietnam. Yeah I’ve tried putting birds on ponds in a couple of courses but because I raise the entire plot up above the water table they don’t float and the fish just sink to the bottom.

This is probably the most unique environment I’ve ever seen in this game. The use of colors and textures to create the fields is just incredible. The flatness and fields created some really weird visual perceptions that I’ve never encountered (not a bad thing, just something new). Course played well and overall just a fun round. Couldn’t putt worth a sh%$ but still managed a -2. Well done!

Thank you everyone for their plays and comments. A big thank you to VctryLnSprts and Crazycanuck1985 for selecting my course as one of the Wild Cards. I am honoured, as every course in this competition would have been contending for victory when I first started designing in TGC1.

Having been a designer on the original XBox and aware of how bad draw distances can be on weaker machines, I deliberately used the surface textures to get a patchwork effect even if the planting on top disappeared.

Took me a while to warm up to the concept, but I think I got there in the end. Either way, what an amazingly unique concept!

Took me a while to warm up to the concept, but I think I got there in the end. Either way, what an amazingly unique concept! Thanks for the play and critique. I went into National Treasure wanting to challenge myself by doing a flat course which is what drew me to the inspiration photos and the concept came from there. Having taken a left-field concept approach into earlier design contests, I knew this would be polarising from the golf side.

I have finally added my Hole Guide into the second post of this thread.
I've also come across a couple more videos of the course. Thank you to both for their plays and videos.

Played this last night and really enjoyed the out-of-the-box approach and course. Nice work!

Fair enjoyed my little self round this Ken. It was particularly nice to have something so visually different to anything else out there. The National Treasure comp was an inspired idea and it’s provided some very interesting courses.

So I’ve just finished my round here - it’s a fantastic environment and I love how you stuck to it the whole way through, while pretty seamlessly blending the course into the jungle areas around the edge. I wish we’d seen more of the jungle but a great course!
While I’m not usually a fan of geometric courses, it fit well here. It didn’t feel forced at all. My only complaint would be the use of cart path as a surface for the crops… a few times my ball rolled through further than I imagine it should - maybe bunker would have been a better texture?
Best of luck in the competition, really enjoyed my round here.

The fields needed that 5th texture and I ultimately used that dirt cart path texture for looks and contrast with the others rather than its bounce and roll characteristics. At least you get a surprise when you go into it!
