MATCH REPORT live from Radio TGCT
[Ken played this turn order against Les’ ghost and wrote the hole report live as “they” played]
Hi Folks. It’s Snow White here reporting from the Evil Queen’s Castle Pines where she torments her lowly Xbox citizens with poor tempos. Today’s match is between my two favourite dwarves, “Grumpy” Les Sangster & “Bashful” Ken Wise.
I hear some whistling. Now some singing ... “Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it’s off to golf we go!”. It’s them ... but I wish they’d stop singing and stick to the golf. Let’s get this match underway.
Hole 1:
Ken steps up to the first tee and hits a perfect down the middle. Les matches him.
Two nice approaches.
Les just misses his eagle putt
Ken has a 6 footer for eagle to go one up ... and holes it. Ken 1 UP
Hole 2:
Ken has the honour ... and puts it to 2 feet
Les gets to 11 feet ... and holes his birdie
Ken gets his tap in for birdie. They halve. Ken still 1 UP
Hole 3:
Ken just in the light rough with his drive
Les straight down the middle
Nice approach from Les ... but just runs past 18ft
Ken’s approach from the rough and gets to within 8ft
Les for birdie ... and just misses
Ken for birdie ... and gets it to go 2UP
Hole 4:
Ken hits a 365 yd drive down the middle.
Les just a bit back but also in the middle
Nice approach from Les to 11ft
A pitch from Ken to 9ft
Les for the birdie ... and its another Brazilian
Ken for his birdie ... and just gets it. Ken to 3 UP
Hole 5:
Long par 5 and Ken lays up with a 3W
Les bombs the driver through the fairway into the light rough
Another lay-up for Ken. Les does the same
Ken from 128 yds ... it’s looking good and gets to 9ft
Les approaches now and gets it even closer
Ken for the birdie and misses it.
Les also from 9ft ... its looking good ... but no it stays out
Tap in pars for both and it remains 3 UP to Ken
Hole 6:
Ken’s in the light rough off the tee
Similar line for Les but he stays in the fairway
Ken’s approach is safe but 20ft from the pin
Les hits a beauty to leave himself a tap-in 2 footer
Ken putting from 20 feet ... and he gets it to save the halve and stay 3 UP
Hole 7:
Ken decides to go safe with the 3W ... but it backfires and a fast has put him in the fairway bunker
Les smashes the driver into the fairway to leave himself a pitch
Ken’s approach from the bunker is short of the green
Les just needs to get it close ... but it’s a mishit and he’s further away than Ken
Les gets on to within 5ft
Ken chips to within 3ft and they both knock their putts in to halve in pars. Ken still 3 UP
Hole 8:
Another slight fast for Ken and he’s bunker left
Another sweet drive from Les into the fairway
Poor shot from Ken and leaves himself short of the green
Les gets nice distance on his pitch but it is left of the pin, about 12ft away
Ken has a little 9 yard chip ... and it goes in!
Les needs the 12 footer to halve ... and the Brazilian strikes again and he misses. Ken goes 4 UP
Hole 9:
Ken smacks a perfect drive down the middle.
Les looks a bit wayward to the right ... but a lucky bounce almost at right angles puts him back in the fairway
Nice approach from Les to within 10ft
Ken pitches ... it’s looking good and stops within 3ft
Les needs this 10 footer ... but that groin area must be getting a bit sore because it’s another Brazilian.
Ken taps in another one to go 5 UP at the turn.
Hole 10:
Ken hits another nice shot that runs through the fairway into the light rough.
Les does the same. Nice cart golf though
A nice pitch from Les to 10ft. Ken’s pitch is a bit fast but he still gets it to 9ft.
Les for the birdie ... and he gets it.
A tricky downhiller for Ken to halve the hole ... and it just slides by and Les gets one back. Ken back to 4UP
Hole 11:
Les finally has the honour ... and its another beauty down the middle
Ken hits a perfect ... but the contours don’t do what he is expecting and he’s in the light rough right.
Ken’s going for it with the 3W ... but it’s a bit fast and ends up short left of the green.
Les also going for it but he has pushed it right. They both sit about 19 yards from the pin.
Ken with the splash to 4ft
Les tries to trickle it up ... but it’s a bit short and leaves a 10 footer for birdie.
Les for birdie ... and we are going to have to start calling him Mr Gillette because he has shaved it again.
Ken for birdie ... and gets it to go back to 5UP
Hole 12:
Ken hits a beauty but it runs past the pin to be 17ft away
Les gets a fast and hits long left but gets an ok bounce to leave himself an 8 yd chip
Les with the chip ... is it going in ... no! ... another shave, this time with the wedge instead of the putter.
Ken from 17ft to go dormie ... and he’s got it. That’s 6UP with 6 to play
Hole 13:
Ken’s drive is a bit fast ... but it runs well though the fairway.
Les is looking better but just runs through too.
Les pitches up ... there’s a little kick to the left ... and it’s a beauty, stopping 6ft away
Ken to pitch ... can he get it close to finish the match off ... no, it’s a slow and he’s in the rough to the right of the green
Ken with an 11 yard chip and gets it to 4ft.
Les for a birdie from 6ft ... and finally gets one to keep the match alive. Ken now dormie 5.
Hole 14:
Les steps up to the par 3 with the 5 iron ... but it’s a slight fast and it runs through into the bunker
Ken just needs to get it on the green ... his tee shot is bit fast but it stays on the green and stops within 11ft
Les from the bunker ... he really needs to hole this ... it’s looking good ... and just misses again.
Ken has two shots to win the match from 11 ft ... but he doesn’t need them ... he gets the birdie to take the hole. Ken wins the match 6 & 4.
So Bashful gets the win over Grumpy. Bashful scored well today and Grumpy was unlucky with all the near misses. But after all those close shaves, Grumpy’s skin must be super smooth and he knows how much Snow likes that. Oops! Anyway, that’s it from me, Snow White. Good-bye.
Strikers win 6 & 4LATEST:
