Gorgeous course man. I played in very high winds and it was a tonne of fun. Loved the smooth contours. And the planting and bunkers were so well done. Views galore out there. The clubhouse had a real retro feel about it too which I dug. Awesome work Wes.

really enjoyed this - a bit of a Raynor and Dye bunkering mashup. I actually felt it from both Yeamans Hall/CC of Charleston and Kiawah perspectives, though more refined on the latter - especially the shaping, angles, and sand extending from the longer bordering areas into the green complexes.
Thanks for putting this together...

Welcome to Bungalow Beach Club, my entry into the National Treasure design contest. I was assigned the country of Maldives from the mighty and all knowing wheel (all hail!). There are no 18 hole full par golf courses in the Maldives, and about the only thing they are famous for is having the most over water bungalow villas in the world and being a popular vacation spot for couples. So, at first I questioned the wise wheel. But, once I embraced the idea behind the contest overall, to get outside your comfort zone, the ideas really started flowing. That is when I landed on the idea of bringing a Pete Dye styled course to the Maldives. Dye is great at creating interest, strategy and challenge out of relatively flat pieces of land with angles, visual deception and making what little land movement is available count. Since the Maldives is the lowest country in the world with the highest elevation point in the entire country being 16.7 feet (on a tee box of the only course in the entire country)... I thought it was a good fit of style to emulate. I had a lot of fun once I actually got going. And I think this contest produced exactly what it was suppose to out of me, which is a course I would have probably never tried to make on my own if not given these set of perimeters. Judges: Prevailing winds to be played are south, southeast or southwest. Default wind speeds have fallen between medium and high in my play testing. I think medium plays best. Default green speed is 175. Enjoy!

Just played here - expect a lawsuit from Pete Dye soon! Really loved the Sawgrass vibes, you nailed the style and made a really stunning course in a beautiful environment. I’ll start my review with just about my only slight criticism - There are no 18 hole full par golf courses in the Maldives, and about the only thing they are famous for is having the most over water bungalow villas in the world and being a popular vacation spot for couples. Perhaps I’d have leaned into this more; maybe it would have provided an option for a very creative routing, loaded with par threes (maybe some back to back) and short par fours, but even though this is my first contest, I can definitely understand why you wouldn’t go for something like that, especially in a competition! With that view out of the way, this course was near enough flawless. A beautiful, tropical island (maybe slightly fantastical to have an entire island totally dedicated to golfing, but I love it!) that definitely encapsulated the stereotypical view of a vacation paradise. The resort area was lovely, highlighted at the start and end of the round to really drive home the holiday vibes. I loved the course too. Such an interesting layout, especially considering the flatness of the nation. You created options intelligently, and there was a comfortable level of challenge to it while still providing scoring options. I finished +2, with three bogeys and a sextuple bogey 9 on 17! I was 7 off the tee, couldn’t stop enticing me to go for the pin and I kept hooking it into the drink. The bunker style was flawlessly executed. The hazards were seamlessly integrated into the course in a way that blended them beautifully into the natural environment, and the flat bottom with sloping rough faces must have taken forever to build but was worth every single second in my opinion. Perhaps you could have used the water table trick a little more, running surfaces into the ocean? I noticed on 17 that the bunkers ended shortly after going into the water which was a bit of a visual oddity but really doesn’t impact the round at all, and is a bit of a stretch to even comment on it as a negative and I only noticed because I hit SO MANY balls into the water. I’m hard pressed to pick out a favourite hole. Going for the green on the second probably isn’t the percentage play. I came close to acing the fifth so that stuck out to me, nine was incredibly reminiscent of Sawgrass, seventeen was painful for me but iconic, and there wasn’t a single weak hole among the bunch. I think we may have a winner - a brilliant course, completely reflective of your country. It will take some serious stuff to beat this effort. Congratulations and best of luck, not that you’ll need it!

Looks like I forgot to add my review here.
Got off to a flyer and a birdie on 1 and then brought back to earth when I tried to drive 2 and found out the hard way that I can't. The 5th is an engaging par 3 that I hit long right and hit a lovely chip in. Love the beach bungalows on the little island behind the 10th green. Made a mess of the symmetry on 11 not clearing the split fairway and then pushing my approach right. The course plays wonderfully with the pins in tricky places in corners of the green. Great closing couple of holes with the clubhouse in the background of the finishing hole. 5 stars!

The streak has ended and the community has finally lost with this type of winner chosen. Thanks to the judges and fellow competitors. This contest was very challenging and I am glad it was brought into the rotation this season because it produced a lot of unique courses. Weird feeling to have won for sure, but I am very grateful.
