Welcome to The Locals Club. This is a course that is being built with the local style of the premier courses in the area I live in, SW Florida. The 3 main courses that have given me inspiration for this are Calusa Pines, Naples National, and Old Corkscrew. I’ll share some pictures below of the three courses and what I have so far down.
I’m still super early in the process but i should have some more progress up here by Friday on it.

Still got a good amount of work left but I just published the first Beta for The Locals Club. 4 different hole locations, 1 tee box for the moment. Planting isn't don’t but there are some areas that are out together well enough to give the feel of how the overall course will look. Short course at just over 6800 yards. Driver is not needed on most of the holes but if you do pull the driver and hit it good you will be rewarded. Please give it a play and let me know if you like what I got down so far.

If anyone has any thoughts for lighting on this course I’d love to hear them. Late afternoon light leaves some holes too much in the shadows, but too bright looks awful as well….

I'll try to take a look in the morning and send you some thoughts... That would be awesome thank you, still have a lot of planting left around the majority of the course but there’s enough down around some tee boxes and greens to give an idea what it will look like.

General thoughts - set your greens to something other than a default speed. My suggestion is for greens to either be in the 152-155 range or 170-180 range. With your greens, I would set them to something in the 7.8 to 8.0 range which will get you in the low 170s. You also have plenty of room to push up the slopes on some of your greens while increasing speeds. I had a lot of very flat putts. - add fairway runoffs around your greens. Greens just surrounded by rough dont punish you for going off a green. They just leave you with a simple chip every time. - use either light rough or heavy rough. When you're using both, it creates a lot of wobbly surfacing issues whenever you're splining/brushing in the heavy rough. I personally like brushing in heavy rough in spots because you can get it to bleed into other surfaces. - working with pine straw sucks because it doesnt like to blend with surrounding surfaces. There's not a great way around it other than trying out rough/heavy rough of a similar red color. You could maybe go with green light rough off your fairways and then use red heavy rough outside of that with clumps of a similar red pine straw? I dont have a great solution. - if you're going to use that clumpy bush, sink it down a bit because otherwise it just looks like a bunch of balls sitting on top of your course. An alternate move would to use a mixture of shrunken/partially buried trees with a sunken bush to create the look you want. A few examples of what I'm talking about on surfacing:

Thanks for all that mctrees02 I had gone back and forth on the single layer rough/heavy rough and the fairway runoff’s. I know the fairways runoffs were something I wish I had utilized on my last course. There are some holes that set up perfectly for them. Always appreciate the feedback.

Beta 2 The Locals Club is published. Pretty much all that’s left is some planting around the lakes and tee box areas, driving range, parking lot and other Radom items. Let me know what you think.
