I think I went bogey-free for 71 holes and putted the best Iβve ever done... AND had a double-bogey on a par 5 after hitting it to within 3 meters in two... πππ. Three-meter downhill putt went 20+ meters off the green... hit it back up and did the same thing again... π€£π€£π€£
-32 in the end
Best wishes Frans

Well, randomly played a practice round yesterday and spiked my second alby of my career on 10. Maybe itβs an omen or a sign lol
Other then that time to see if my good play continues....

Another good design up to the pin positions. Felt like there was a serious lack of reward for good approaches on this course with so many pins on side slopes. Case in point in R3 hit a 4i to 11β just above the hole on 10. Ball doesnβt feed back down to the hole but is a crazy fast slider. Putt just slides by and then continued 70β off the green...brutal considering itβs just about impossible to leave it below the hole with the slopes. Lost count of how many times I lipped out or got rejected by a pin with chips. -39. On to next week. I haven't played the course yet, so my comments aren't about this particular course.. But I have noticed that trend a little lately. I agree tho, if I'm crisping a 4i to 11 feet, I don't wouldn't want to have to deal with that.

I can shed some light on this, it has to do a lot with what speed the greens were designed for, a lot of them were designed for slower default greens (around 156) and then become a bit "overcooked" when brought up to fast or very fast speeds, there are 2 more weeks of greens like this scheduled atm, but I assure you im toning it down after the American Open (US Open equivalent). So feel free to blame me! not the designer for tricking up the greens #justplatthings

A lot of Plat players are very good, and I get it, things need to be tough. There has to be such a fine line between a tough hole and one that me be slightly under-rewarding, and is easily interpreted differently based what got placed on the scorecard haha. Speaking as one of the weaker putters in the top 20 who hits a lot of close shots, I'd love to see an easier putt when I get one close from a ways out. But, I am sure the better putters may see it differently.

FWIW Q, I actually think cooking the greens up can be a really fun challenge on courses that have that default speed in the "fast"/"Med.Fast" range you referenced, but it's def a tight line to walk. If pins are reasonably placed and tiers aren't overdone for those slower speeds, I think it can be quite fun to take a slower speed course and juice it up for a round...but yea, depends on where the pins are, how the slopes play (do backstops/helpers hold the ball onto the tier it should be on, or do they repel off the green, etc.), and then the other conditions (mostly wind).

Wait a minute - nobody touch the wind; wind is good; we need wind!! πππ

Agree Q, thought the course was tough but playable at 163, but 187 took things too far on some pins that were not meant to be at that speed (and Iβm normally all for 187 all the time, itβs where I think most greens play the best for approaches and putting).

thanks folks for the quality feedback, I tend to like to be more transparent with what im doing and why (even if it might bite me sometimes), feel like I can learn faster that way! I get a lot of conflicting wants and desires for what plat should be and Im aware I cant accommodate everyone but it's fun to try.
as I said, next 2 weeks are more of the same with greens, then there should be some slightly "friendlier" greens after the hardest event of the year

HB just needs to let us have more control over speeds/firmness etc. No reason that they be hardcoded to 6 types and then nothing in between.

Hole 6 leaves a lot to be desired. 1st round - don't have the right club to go at the pin, so I play to the "flat" portion beneath the hole. Nope. 2nd round - in between clubs again. Thought the wind might carry the 4 hybrid onto the green. Nope. The rest is red bead silliness. I really enjoyed this course and thought it played well in the high winds. But with that being said, hole 6 was the worst hole we've played on tour in some time. 17 really good holes and one gigantic question mark.

Oyyy what a ride for this one. Round 1 I was -5 after 4, -1 after 7 (made a sweet 70 footer on 6 for double though) than made the turn at -3 not a par on the front. Ham and egged the rest of the way through round 1 and all of round 2 to be -11 after 36 and my guess is miss the cut by 1. I think if the greens were able to be set at 172 it would make some of the complexes a little more palatable. At 187 we lost some of the back stops and helping slopes. Certainly entertaining though! I love playing in the wind, but I think if we are going to play on greens at 187 that are this severe, maybe kill the wind a bit one day to give us a little bit of a breather #controllerlivesmatter

Finished up all four rounds last night, and thought the course had a lot of good qualities about it. I felt a few holes lacked the "what could happen if a player hit a decent shot to here on the green" playtest, but enjoyed the course.
Ended up 61,61,60,61 (-41). Pretty consistent rounds, but pretty consistently let 3-4 shots fall out of my pocket along the way each round. Some were my fault.. some were not.. I should contend for another decent finish but it's hard to win without playing your A-game on this tour! I'll try again next week.
