Welcome to "surviving the new swing" on the elite tour. Nice little surprise HB dropped on us in the middle of last week's tournament. Hopefully y'all avoided demotion marks and fought through the new swing as best you could. This week we stay in Canada following our trip to Strathlorne up with another Canadian coast inspired course in Breton Bay by mattyfromcanada. This week will challenge you with plenty of elevation changes and undulation, but the golf is plenty fair if you are hitting your shots and there are definitely birdies and eagles to be found with a favorable wind. Good luck! From the designer: Breton Bay is inspired by Highlands Links, and Cape Breton Island. The out and back routing works its way through several environments, ocean, river, and highlands. Sand is used sparingly, with the main defense of the course being the heavily undulating terrain. Cape Breton is a windy place, and the course is meant to play with some wind. Enjoy!

First tournament not relying on the red fast and I'm not sure if was the course or just the new challenge but it was really enjoyable. Probably struggling to make the cut at -10 but pleased it wasn't an absolute disaster. Managed to get through all 4 in -23 and could easily have been five or six lower but for some misses with very short putts.
Great course - probably my favourite of the year so far. Loads of variety, barely a flat lie to be found with some interesting elevation changes without feeling at all tricked-up. Particularly liked the really short, short par 3.
Looks like some more great courses on the schedule in the next few weeks so hoping I can stick around long enough for those!

Similar story for me Leecey...
Was looking forward to the challenge of not using red fasts, but expecting to get relegated as I am already on 4 demotion marks. I started with a -1 where the problem was mostly missed putts rather than tempo issues. Round 2 I hit -9 which tells me I might be able to compete after all! I don't think I'll make the cut with -10 but I'm hoping to avoid a demotion mark and a kick down to Kinetic.

Meanwhile, for us exclusively perfect tempo guys, it feels like we got missed by the Rapture. Lovely course, good luck everyone

Ok, calling a spade a spade here, I damn well struggled 😆. I'm assuming my lousy -2 effort will get me a demo or seven. But hell, who wants to go to Plat anyway.
Hit a great drive on 2 in R1 and bagged an eagle. Then knocked it close on the 3rd and thought, pfft this is easy. Unfortunately I missed the putt and it was that miss, rather than the eagle, that kinda set the tone for me. Picked a bad time to putt poorly overall. If I was a bit sharper with the short stick I could have gone a few better.
Big fan of the course, so despite my struggles, enjoyed the event.

played awful and it was nothing to do with the update just left myself in ridiculously bad positions on the greens -2 -5 for a missed cut by miles... course just didn't suit my eye

fought and clawed my way to a -24 finish. Should make the cut as my first two rounds were my best of the 4. Had a lot of fun out there - felt like I was on the edge of disaster with a couple of those drives that needed to carry 270+...been a while since I've had the fear of a bad drive in me. Also changed my bag up pretty drastically before the event and didn't really give it much practice so a lot of my safe shots had all changed - but think in the long run - barring any more swing tweaks - this new bag will be better for me and my non-consistent tempo.
Fun week - hope everyone else had the same experience of never feeling out of it after a string of pars.

I didn't have any hopes of making the cut this week after my practice rounds (think my best practice was -4) and actually thought of just sitting out this week. Not a knock on the course at all, I actually enjoyed it during practice but that never translated to a good final score. But it's a dang video game, it doesn't REALLY matter if I miss a cut or get demotion marks so I decided to play last night. After a decent round in the career mode to find my tempo I started my rounds in the society. Things all clicked and I drained a couple long putts in my first round to get around in -10. Seemed from very out of nowhere based on the practice I put in. Second round could have been even better but I opened with a string of 6 pars where I think there were 2 lip outs. Eagle on #7 jump started the round and got through with a -7 for a comfortably made cut. I had 2 putts on the back 9 where I hit the dead center of the hole but too much pace and they both jumped over. Can't remember the last time that happened to me in the game, probably months ago.
As I expected scoring isn't really being affected by the RF nerf. Makes me glad I've been playing for perfects for so long now. I'm still getting used to pitches now though. I had a few where I hit 98-100%, grey fast, and they STILL came up 15-20 yards short on a 75 yard pitch...seems very extreme for such a narrow miss. After that happened for the second time I did my best for the rest of my tournament rounds to lay back so I'd at least have a full lob wedge in and generally took advantage and made birdies when I did.
We'll see what rounds 3 and 4 bring when I get to them tonight or tomorrow.
