After completing another RCR ( Charleston Muni Redesign), I am again heading back into the world of fictional courses that "feel" like they are real. Ground has been broken on my next design, called Cherry Bluffs. The course is set in the popular tourist destination, Door County, Wisconsin, USA. Door County is known for its many shops, restaurants, wineries, and - of course - their wide range of cherry products, grown locally due to the favorable climate. Door County is a peninsula, bordered on one side by the Bay of Green Bay, and on the other by Lake Michigan. Each side of the peninsula features bluffs and cliffs that provide stunning views of the water. Here's a sneak peek of the clubhouse, a renovated lighthouse building, sitting high above picturesque Moonlight Bay and overlooking the double green that will house Holes 9 and 18 :

Here's another quick look at Cherry Bluffs. Still plenty more to work on, but the routing and layout is all set. Just planting, planting, and more planting... Updated clubhouse view - again, the double green behind it houses both holes 9 and 18. You can see the No. 9 section here behind and to the left of the building: Hole 11 - the lighthouse is visible beyond the fairway through the trees, and the No. 11 green can be viewed just beyond the pond on the left: Hole 15 green, overlooking the bay: Hole 16, signature hole - a par-3 with the green set beyond a rocky section of the bluffs:

I figured it might be fun to show some of the inspiration for the Cherry Bluffs course set in Door County. The area has some very interesting geologic features, and I wanted to capture some of those within Cherry Bluffs. First off is the rocky, sheer bluffs found in the area. Here is a view of the Eagle Bluff, part of Peninsula State Park: Interestingly enough, Peninsula State Park actually features an 18-hole golf course, as well as a 6-hole short course! I have yet to play either, but will be getting the chance in June. Images of the course, though, have been a bit of an inspiration for the look and layout of Cherry Bluffs, especially the hilly terrain, bright fall colors, and the views of the water: And one more thing to note about Peninsula State Golf Course is that, while I did not add anything similar to this at Cherry Bluffs, the course is famous (or perhaps infamous) for its 69-yard, par-3 8th hole. Here it is: The concrete pavers you see there hold an artificial chipping mat which you tee off from on this hole, to a green that's basically 60 feet straight down hill.

Thanks! Not sure I'll do a beta. I haven't done one before, but it might not be a bad idea. I am getting close to publishing at this point, so I could likely have a beta set here soon. If I do decide to do one, I will post it here!
