I got off to a start. This is going to be a VERY difficult challenge for me. My other two course I have published have had extreme elevation changes. Hopefully I can manage to create something at least decent. Here is what I started this morning. Really digging that low coastal look! Thanks man! I hope I can something decent off with it.

This is one of those times where I'm happy to have grown up in West Texas so flat golf doesn't scare me like many others. The plot and hole designs came together pretty easily. I wanted to use one continuous strip of fairway with waste areas in between but ultimately decided that hole 5 should have a break in it to try and force drives further right for a shorter approach from a very bad angle.

Yes, so this sounds like fun. I normally rely far too much on large elevation changes to give a course it’s sight lines so this is going to be a real challenge. Luckily the other course I’m building is going somewhat dreadfully so go a good time to put that on hold and give this a go. I’ve played Royal North Devon before so at least have some experience of playing a dead flat course. Can’t think of a flatter one from memory. But not saying it’s necessarily going to be my inspiration, I’m still thinking about coconuts.

So I started sketching last night and immediately started doing a Pete Dye thing, then it led to gyometries. Then it led to each hole being a template remix. I was real excited about the holes I sketched out.
Now I see bascially half of us are all doing the same sh%$ hahahaha

Alright... My twelve foot tall wheat is now taken care of... This kicked my ass, but it will be well worth it. I am even more excited for how its looking.... Now if I could just figure out how to do some freaking geometric shapes w/ the spline tool... Time to scour the forums to see who's already figured it out ha

Woooooah 1 month well this is a fantastic challenge as I've yet to design anything remotely close to flat. Gonna have to really test myself to get it done in that window, but this is a sweet idea! I was very impressed with your entry for the last contest, so I'm looking forward to what you come up with! Really, I was pretty impressed with most of the courses. This time around I'm going to spend a lot longer on my entry. I was too #funandcasual last time! Thanks! I appreciate that. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with as well. Wondering if there'll be fewer entries because of the deadline, but judges might need a breather after the first one haha

My current idea for this one is to go with more of a swamp vibe surrounding the course. I think it fits well with the flat plot. May just use the water as the hazards around the whole course and just disregard bunkers totally. Twitter Pic 1Twitter Pic 2Twitter Pic 3

Nothing huge to update on today. Lots of time spent playing around with flat bottom bunkering (I probably placed and ripped out 50 or 60 bunkers trying to get the look down I want - still haven't gotten it) and sculpting ideas. Have most the holes mapped out (though not in the designer yet. Mostly spent this evening getting the gentle gradients I want in places and getting the greens laid down. Optimistic with this one, though Q was right when he said sightlines were going to be brutal... I have some ideas, but its going to be tricky. Really glad we have a month! I wouldn't be able to run through this one like I did the last one. Templates I am planning on having - Punchbowl, Biarritz, Lions Mouth, Plateau, Maiden, TBD (probably Long... Found a green I really like from Chicago Golf Club) Anyway. WIP pic of the green-sites

I spent about 2 hours on a layout that I felt works (and so far) plays well, and then about 3 hours on the retaining walls alone Happy with the start, definitely time to get off for the night, but a long way to go!
