I was flying in R1... -9 through 13. Unfortunately, a bogey on 14 shook my confidence, and then 15 ate me alive. I had a perfect drive and was in position A ~170ish out from the flag on the right side with my 2nd shot. Unfortunately my 8I approach hit the flagstick and bounced back, and then rolled off the green and into the water. I was rattled at that point, as it looked like I was tracking for an eagle and now found myself in the water. I then rushed my first drop shot, which came up just short and of course proceeded to roll back into the water again. I ended up with a snowman 8 on 15. Was able to get one back on 17, finishing up at -6 for R1 (-10 for 16 holes, +4 for 14 and 15, ugh).
Going to need something special in R2 to make the cut!

Fair assessment and I respect your opinion of this event. This is my favorite event of the year even if it is a new paradigm, so it is curious that we have our opposing opinions, yet we end up in the same place on the leaderboard, even if it speaks moreso to our (definitely to my) level of play. Haha, it definitely reflects my level of play as well! I'm fine with that, though. My tempo is too inconsistent to be making cuts on a regular basis up here, so I keep enjoying the moment every now and then when I have a good week. Regarding my taste of courses, I'm well aware that I'm outnumbered in preferring the easy and boring ones. I play the game mostly for relaxation and I don't want to think too much when playing. Lazy me, I know, but I'm a civil servant, so what do you expect?

Played a practice round to see the new and improved layout. Think CLV did a really good job here, definitely feels "at home" for the tournament. My only real stand-out not-so-favorite thing is the front on 15. IMO, it's a bit too harsh, kind of takes some of the fun out of playing that hole. I hit one that drew in from the right into pin1 in that little green section of slope, rolled out toward the hole, probably got to within 8-10ft (ish? Guessing, but it wasn't far off), then proceeded to roll off the green into the water. Without any rough to stop the ball as we had previously, it's just a touch over the top, IMO, but we're all playing the same course. Outside of that one thing, enjoyed the course for the most part, lots of slopey greens to deal with that's for sure, should be fun - GL all.

This was a total collapse and after the front 9 I was so frustrated that I just pointed and shot through the rest. Horrible tournament. I'll just sit and wait for next week.

I always felt like it was unrealistic that the ball would stop in that rough before the 15th green, and for a short par 5 there needs to be a lot of risk to the reward.

Respect your opinion, especially seeing your hardware under your message. But I LOVE the change to 15. Maybe my favorite on the course. Previously, that was a mindless mid iron approach shot into a par 5 that usually led to a tap in birdie on this game. Now, I find myself putting more thought into that approach shot than almost any on the course. Scoring anything from 3-7 on that hole is very possible which makes it one of the better on the course imo

I agree with holthud, through 3 rounds so far, it's been so fun to know you have a dime to land it on if you want to be close to the pin (and very often with a huge amount of shop shaping to be able to stop it), and 15 has been no exception. You just have to give yourself a margin of error you're comfortable with, and when the pin is up front, the 3rd shot will still make you think!

Yea I'm doing a quick 180 on that take. After playing another practice, then the 1st round of tournament play, I actually think the severity of 15 makes that shot to the front pin more interesting/demanding - can't just fire at the flag, have to hedge for safety or hope your dead on perfect. Think it was just that shot I hit that rolled near the hole and still ended up in the water that turned me off, but it was a learning experience

R2 wasn't special. -5. So -6 and -5 for -11 after 2. A missed cut, but shouldn't be any demo marks. I thought the greens were TOUGH in R2. Couldn't putt anything.
And hey... if you take out my triple bogey on 15 in R1, my double bogey on 11 in R2 (from the middle of the fairway with an absolute pull directly into the water), and my bogey on 14 in R1, I'd be at -17! Hahaha.
Love this course.

Best 2 scoring rounds in a long time, but felt like a lot of it was luck - lots of chip ins (think I've finally figured that out...finally), plus more than my fair share of good bounces/breaks, and a number of low percentage putt's that I managed to hole out...basically, stuff that I can't rely on replicating, was just pretty lucky to happen. Still very nice to be sitting where I am after 2rds, it's been a long time since I've been that high up the leaderboard, and while I'm fairly certain it won't last, making the short cut here is a big win given my recent form.
Hoping for more of the same over the weekend rounds, we shall see...

-6 through 1. My tempo was just everywhere. Just missing a few shots, missing a few putts. Double watered 13. Rallied at the end just to get to -6. I needed a miracle in round 2. I knew it was scorable, eagles were much easier to make. But -12 to get to the ever rising cutline at -18 was still a tall task on Fruitland Farms. We surged through the front 9. Hitting some darts. Still missed some eagle opportunities, but we were -12 at the turn. Back 9 has some eagle opportunities. It's not easy, but we can do it. Missed putts on 10 and 11 after very good approaches. FML. Fine, I'll just stick it 2 feet from the pin on 12 so I can't miss that putt. 13. That hole. The 90 degree around the trees. Play it safe this time, no flirting with danger. 174 away. Severe slope right to left. Wind left to right. Almost cancels out. I spend 2 minutes analyzing my shot. I get the math down. I need my club to go 158, wind will take it to 166. Adjust for the slope.
The miracle. My first ever.
More missed putts ahead, except for the crucial 10 ft eagle on 15.
-18 secured. See ya on the weekend.

Unfortunately, R4 hasn't been quite as good! Found the water on 12, the bunker on 8 (and then tried to get out with a hybrid, and failed), and missed a few putts. Still -11, but I know that at least one of my fellow frenchmen have got me beat on PS4!

-17 not making it was a kick in the cobblers! Seems like I may have to look into this green reading nonsense and other anti-golf stuff!
