I always tell people when playing real golf the safest places to avoid getting hit by a ball is the middle of the fairway or next to the flag. Usually anyway 😎

I wish for a game that promotes even competition according to difficulty level. I currently play the masters difficulty and there is a small pocket of friends who play the game as intended In HB's tutorial. We don't stand much of a chance in tourneys at all which is very frustrating to say the least. I enjoy the game nontheless but play only 2 rounds per day. If EA seems to knock it out of the Ballpark with their next golf game I may give it a go but I really hope 2k and HB find a way to stop what has happened to this game on the upper difficulty levels.

I welcome the EA competition. I know there will always be much better players than me. I also know I play Master level as instructed by the game. I know very few will shoot -15 per round without some hack or gimmick outside the "rules" of the game. However, there are hordes of players shooting similar scores, despite the level of tour they play in. Any golf game that can better limit gimmicks to beat the game would get my support.

I don't really have a reason to stay positive after dealing with 15 years of EA's lacking in many ways.
EA all of a sudden showing up when they see 2,000,000 dollar sign heads with human bodies and when Tiger Woods signs with 2K looks like they continue to be driven by money and will put out a game just decent enough to take some of 2K's sales away and from a weird way it appears as if they want to go against Tiger 8 years after he decided to not renew his contract. I don't think EA is doing it for revenge - but it can be seen that way.
EA dropped any golf fans they had and were so passionate about the game of golf they failed and then never made up for it for 8 years until they see money can be made. EA's motivation here is money, not providing competition so 2K has to make a good game great and forget caring about golf. They didn't care for almost a decade - why now all of a sudden?
When EA got the NFL license they made crap Madden games up til now - they are still using the Madden name they are so lazy when they could've used someone young people actually know from nowadays. When 2K got the MLB license they actually made great games for years and overall had a much better record than Madden.
I think this 2K game has more realistic golf than any TW game. Every year the TW game needed to improve in how to make golf play realistically whether it be short game shot distance, driving was always too easy, the game was stingy for years with courses. They, like their online community cared more about the lowest common denominator meaning let's put in non-golf things that make it feel like a video game.
The community was always playing on easy level so they can crank 400 yard drives and hole 200 yard shots. I used to want to play on the tough level which every year wouldn't be much of a challenge anyway, and no one would show up to play - when I set the online mode to easy, I could play all day. They care more about making it fun for kids who take a mild interest in golf -not hardcore golf fans like us on this forum and of course $.
And let's add in all the fans over 15 years that begged EA for a course creator and they never bothered basically admitting they were not good enough to think of or implement one. They never gave their golf games enough money to fix everything so every year one thing would get fixed and then another would get messed up. Think the bossy caddy in TW2012 who couldn't be turned off - it gets fired and by TW2013 there are short game accuracy probs, that gets fixed so in TW2014 has too easy a driver swing that always goes straight and the ball could barely be seen because it wasn't bright enough. Every year some fixes, more problems.
I think having EA in the picture just means a new crap EA game with a chance to take away 2K's chances of signing on more courses, players, tournament names, majors, etc by doing another exclusive deal. They never had a great community like TGC either which I thank you all for. Then again I like this 2K game a lot - it has some flaws but it seems like people have had more frustration with this game than I have.

Nice post williamwes626, that's basically where I am as well. I certainly have no interest in pre ordering which I would do in a heartbeat with 2K/HB. For years I bought TW every year, plus all the DLC, spending £100+ for a game and 45 courses. And then I was about to buy Rory and saw it came out with just 8 courses, and that was when I said no thanks and looked around and found TGC1. EA have taken more than enough of my money already, they would have to produce something spectacular to tempt me back. I don't think they've got it in them. The one think 2K needs to do is improve the online play. It's fine playing amongst friends but the EA lobby was always very good. Although, probably then back to the problem of trying to find a game on the harder settings without everyone quitting, and end up just playing with friends anyway!

That makes things interesting yet also infuriating, always kind of hoped 2K would get those licences

I guess EA will be where we all play our solo careers and 2k will be where we play online

No word of a course creator yet I assume?

No word of a course creator yet I assume? Imo the casual golfer has very little interest in a course creator.
I.e., let's take a look at the current #1 golf game per volume. WGT has a 15million player base (albeit I'd guess 5m active) with only 17 courses and only 2 pins on each course. They also hold Live events with $ pay outs, flying qualifying players to Vegas, Europe, etc. They have an amazing MP with no course creator.
I imagine EA gaining exclusive rights to all Four Majors in conjunction with Pebble Beach will be a huge selling point for a lot of casuals. If EA can nail the MP then watch out.

So five courses then..... Fires up firethorn. They've already announced at least 9 courses at this point: For sure in the game: Augusta PGA Championship host US Open host The Open host TPC Sawgrass Pebble Beach They've also announced that the FedExCup Playoffs are in, so that's another 3.

I think the majority of us are going to end up playing the career mode on EA and then online/course creator on 2k lol
