I stopped playing TGC after a few rounds of 19 & I never brought Rory but I will say TW14 on the move, even 13 on the Move plus TW 10 through 12 on the Wii even with its graphical limitations was so much fun playing swinging the Move/Wii mote
I still play TW12 Wii & TW14 on the PS3 with the move to this day
I’m not complaining here because this is 100% on me but I brought a PS4 when Rory was announced without waiting for release because I was expecting move implementation. Once it became apparent the move was not supported I never even brought the game
The biggest thing I imagine stopping either EA or 2K/HB implementing it is a return on investment. I have more hope for 2k/HB because they released a Golf Club VR version but if it costs $40,000 dollars to hire someone to get the move to work properly & the game retails at $50 then they would need to sell 800 copies above & beyond to break even & I don’t remember the Wii or TW13/14 ever getting that many players entering daily or weekly events
It’s a shame but it’s probably not financially viable

The game is 90% tempo based. Straightness is hardly a concern anymore. Personally it’s just not fun. I suppose that is how you handle tempo. Personally I think there is more skill in timing than pulling a stick back and forward straight which can also be so controller dependent. You can turn off tempo if that's your preference so you have a choice, personally it then becomes more like TGC1 which I didn't like. I love that they have made the driving harder as it felt automatic and too easy in TGC2019. The tempo is poorly implemented and very random in this game (not to mention exploitable), also it graphically looks like crap with the sub par unity engine, hopefully EA can do something better.

Sorry couldn't disagree more, some of the courses look fantastic, especially in 21:9 aspect ratio. Funny how only some have random tempo and others don't.

Indeed some of the courses look amazing and the designers are doing a great job, but just imagine how those courses would/could look on the unreal or cryengine instead of unity. As for the tempo part, it seems to be better in the weekdays, Sundays are the worst probably because most people are playing on that day so it affects the bandwidth of the server.

To avoid any degree of buyers remorse I'll wait 6 or 7 months until they stick it in the EA Play archive and give it a try then. If it sucks and I only play it for 10 minutes it won't be taking any money out of my pocket so I won't really care.

Personally it is the lie and ball physics that are more important to me. A golf game can look amazing but the immersion dies if the ball doesn't behave realistically. The short game (apart from putting) needs serious attention. It seems to be overlooked with every single TGC game which is very frustrating. That splash shot out of heavy rough with the bite and spin is just terrible game mechanics, that's why I only use splash inside bunkers.

Never thought about that, I also will give it a go when it comes to Xbox game pass on PC now that some EA games are free also. Thanks for reminding me👍

I think EA knows they have a lot of work to do the regain trust and market share. Should be very interesting.
Either way I think it's a positive we will have choices when at one point all we had was tw 14 on the 360. For consoles anyway
Whatever happened to perfect golf btw?

Whoever has the best MP experience will get my playtime. Besides, it's more rewarding competing against hundreds of thousands of people.

Be fun to play against you 🤣
EA will have the better online my guess if going by history. But a lot of sweaty try hards dominated the ranked golf on tiger.

Yeah, nobody payed attention to the rankings. My circle almost exclusively played within our own group all the time. Very rarely did I play any random games. They were usually awful, and quit after the first holeout

I think (hope) this is going to be a positive thing...here's why... *can't go wrong with more golf games to play!!!!! I'm older (50's) I remember when there were numerous golf games to play like Jack Nicklaus Golf, Mario Golf (coming back this June BTW on Switch) TW Golf, Hot Shots Golf, VR Golf (PS 3), European Golf, and Links if you were fortunate enough to own a PC back in the day. I owned everyone of those!! Something different in all of those and I loved it! Instead of taking shots at EA, 2K, or whoever...if EA or 2K are listening, maybe we should just list the things that will make us buy another golf game. For instance...let's REALLY make the career mode EXCITING!! How can they do that...ideas...simple things like check and trophy presentation after a win, have crowds follow you up the 18th fairway when you're the leader, the more wins you have the bigger the crowd, maybe implement the purchasing of homes, vehicles, boats, etc with your earnings, and PLEASE, PLEASE add a proper sudden death playoff system for ties in tournaments. These are just a few things I've been hoping for in the past 30 years!! But my ideas have fallen on deaf ears. Of course keep the course creator and improve upon it, as good as many of the courses look, the game needs to be optimized better or another engine needs to be used to eliminate all of the flashing trees and shadows, etc. Keep the societies, the game modes, all that is great. EA hopefully demoted or fired the idiots in charge of Rory PGA Tour. They tried too make a golf game into some exciting arcade CRAP!! We want SIMULATION EA!! Sure, give the option of the ball spinning and 400 yd drives, but keep the game looking like a real golf course, in a real life setting. We don't want to play golf on a phuckin aircraft carrier or battleship. We don't want five courses, we want a different golf course for every tournament of the season. Can we please make the character models look like a human and not some alien from a Sci-fi movie!! Embarrassing EA!! I hear so many people comment on gear all the time...I don't get it...make the gameplay and character models top notch, make the gear sure, but really just give me the option to make any color shirt, pants, shorts, etc and I'm good...trust me I get the gear adds immersion and it's cools as shhiitt to see the golf shirts from my closet in PGA tour 2K21 (thanks baby!!), but I would trade that in a second for an incredible, realistic looking golf course with a great career mode and stats. Let's stay positive and really think of what would improve our current game if we had no TGCTOURS...that's what scares me the most...all good things can't last forever and we're going to need an incredible golf game to make up for what we have going on now. people that are in touch with HB/2K like Andre (Canuck) and others that usually know if we're getting a new game well before we do) hopefully have some sort of input on new releases. Do us proud if that's the case To wrap this up, I'm excited we may get multiple golf titles and hope both will be great games and offer us a great experience no matter which one we choose.

Fun back and forth here! I’ll offer up my thoughts: for me, if the new EA game doesn’t have a course creator, it’s a non-starter regardless of whether or not the game play, graphics, etc are better than 2k. The main thing that keeps me interested in PGA Tour 2k21 is the fact that I never have to play the same course twice. The old EA games were fun to play with buddies over a few beers but the single player mode always got extremely repetitive for me . I can only play the same course so many times (especially virtually) before I want to go somewhere else. 2k21 gives me that opportunity on top of having adequate gameplay, enough licensed gear to keep that crowd happy, and graphics that I can live with. Sure there’s many things that could be improved and I suppose I hope the threat of stealing some of the market will incentivize 2k to keep pushing the quality of the title but, honestly, EA would have to completely blow me away to get my virtual golf dollars and I just don’t see that happening. EA cares about one thing and one thing only: their bottom line. I see this new game as EA “testing the water” so to speak at a potential revival of their golf franchise given the interest in the current 2k21 offering and the strong potential for future iterations given the recent signing of Tiger to the franchise. However, I think EA may be failing to recognize that their TW titles of the mid and late 00’s were operating in a complete genre monopoly where their current offering will have to compete with an already established title backed by big time developer dollars. Virtual golf is well established as a niche market that struggles to attract casual players. If this new game is not a rousing success for EA (and given their recent track record with sports titles in particular, it won’t be) I wouldn’t be surprised to see it be a one and done for them.
As for the argument for officially licensed courses, one could make the point that we already have similar tracks created by the many great designers in our community that are actually better (at least from a virtual golf perspective) then their real life counterparts! I’d damn near give my left nutt to play that “famous course in Georgia” in real life but, having played it several times in the virtual environment, something is definitely lost in the translation. I’m not saying it wouldn’t be nice to have more officially licensed tracks in the game but how many times are you going to play them honestly?
The one place I see EA being able to realistically give 2k a run for their money in some circles is the multiplayer aspect (as others have already mentioned) specifically the opportunity for cross-platform play. Personally, the multiplayer aspect is not as important to me as it is others but if I find someone who wants to play a match but is on a different platform than I am, it would be nice to be able to do that. Hopefully, 2k will recognize this potential weakness and take measures to improve it in future iterations of the game.
As for the wish list idea mentioned a few posts ago, the idealist in me would love to spend an hour listing all the things I feel could be better in this game but the realist in me knows that it would be mostly a waste of time. Such things are fun for enthusiasts like ourselves but in reality creating a “perfect” game is actually BAD business on the part of the game developers. How many copies of Madden have you purchased under the false pretenses of “fixed bugs, improved gameplay, etc.”? As long as they’re selling games, the big time developers like 2k and EA simply don’t care about the quality of the product. We are fortunate in the fact that when 2k purchased HB studios, they got a golf game that already had pretty much everything we as virtual golfers hold dear and simply used their much larger budget to secure licenses to the PGA Tour and several OEM equipment and apparel companies. 2k’s actual input on the gameplay in this year’s title I’m sure was negligible. Had they had to create PGA Tour 2k21 from scratch, I’m afraid we’d all be dealing with a much different game! Hopefully, this game from EA will be just enough to worry 2k into believing that there is actually legit competition in a market they previously thought of to be a bit of a one man show and will prevent them from just farting out a slightly modified copy of the same game loaded with unnecessary, gimmick-y features and micro-transactions. Competition in a capitalist market is almost always a good thing and I feel that that sentiment will hold true in this particular instance. My only fear is that EA puts out a game that is just decent enough to steal a measurable quantity of the market from 2k thus leading to two mediocre golf games as the lack of significant revenue for either developer leads them to prioritize other titles.

The virtual career sounds interesting I have 2k21 but not using it much. I'm playing solo career in 2019. I simply can't compete here even the beer league folks are shooting in the 50's I was able to get almost all the courses on the PGA Tour in 2019 so i'll be doing that. I'll check out EA Sports I'm sure one day 2019 will no longer work.

EA's new game or the next 2K game can't come soon enough. I've grown tired of this engine and the way the game pushes towards hazards.
Todays round like so many others. My swing is naturally fast so I always adjust and aim a bit to the right. There is a hole with water on the right, I never adjusted this time (so I'm thinking it will naturally be left) and low and behold my swing is off and slow into the water. It's just silly at this point. Same with the sand, your ball will roll towards it or bounce towards it like a magnet. Then when you do hit the green more often the ball rolls away from the pin.
More than 50% of my putts are always downhill, how can that be possible unless I'm always hitting the ball past the green each time which I'm not. The funny thing is even on downhill putts the marker is past the hole, the game encourages you to always hit the ball way past the hole.
The engine is getting old and stale now, from crowd visuals, the commentary, to the way you have to hit 15 buttons to exit the game on the PC. Ok, that part is a bit of an exaggeration.
