They’re prioritizing the visuals etc to get them on console but to do this they have to cap at 30fps otherwise their forum will flood of complaints of it being a graphical slideshow. Put another way, they clearly struggled to optimize performance whilst including next gen graphics. Hundreds of games on the market with photorealism at 60fps+.
It may be a miscommunication so we will see.
Also, some of the grass looks silly. the fairways and greens look like they haven’t been cut or rolled in weeks

Cautiously optimistic based on the trailer.
I share others concerns about it supposedly being locked at 30fps (you'd really hope there will also be a performance mode option) but really if it's a stable 30fps it isn't a deal breaker to me. 2k23 dips drastically during the swing on performance mode - moreso on Xbox than PS - so I'm reluctant to say it runs at 60.
The actual gameplay looks light years ahead of 2k23. The ball physics in particular. I think that'll be the biggest leap aside from the course graphics.
Roll on that Gamepass ultimate trial!
And lol at 2k doing a rushed Q&A filled with absolute fluff and nonsense a day after that trailer released.

This is the extent of it as far as I can see: "Are there any new assets getting added to designer? Break out your bulldozers and shovels. We have more coming. Stay tuned." The "q and a" on discord was an absolute disgrace.

But maybe they weren't expecting that in conjunction with lackluster sales (assuming that's the case).

I've seen mixed responses on this, but I wasn't overly impressed. Maybe it's the 30fps issue, but the graphical performance didn't get me excited, nor did the ball physics. I am excited for the courses themselves, especially Augusta and the other majors. Guess we wait and see.

In parts I thought the ball rolling across the grass surface (esp. in those texas wedge shots) looked a little like that WGT game you get on your phone. Not competely realistic at all. On first watch it looks wow but the mor I watch the trailer the more you start to question. Anyway proofs in the pud!

Their excuses for not having a designer are lame. They reckon designers can't know how the rough, fairways etc reacts on a recreation, so designed courses won't be accurate?? Why is that their concern? They can do it. They could include options for rough, grass type and length of rough in a designer. As I said, lame excuses. The real reason is they don't want us recreating "official" courses. They hate that we recreate the course that shall not be named on 2k Servers and all the other courses we create. They want to control the horizontal and the vertical.

This place is obviously pretty weighted towards those who enjoy course designing. From my POV, I'm all about the gameplay - if the EA game feels and plays a lot more like actual golf, then I'm completely sold. 2K3 is the most far away from enjoyable golf than any other of the HB games. Even down to something like dropping the ball - how they've never sorted that out over the years is just crazy. I feel sorry for the people that put so much time and effort into designing courses, only for them to be zero fun when the gameplay does it no favours. Gameplay is nothing without a somewhat fair and thriving community which is what PGA 2k23 has with societies and TGC Tours.

Certainly looks good but I would hope it would be challenging too! In too many versions of EA golf over the years a straight swing was effortless. So I would hope it would have something in there to create tension on the shot as in PGA 14. Not expecting a diagonal swing like that in 14 but there needs to be some skill in producing a straight hit otherwise it's zzzzzzzzzzzz

Will EA have an anti cheat with their competitive modes? I don’t care about the arcade mode just want some sort of regulation in their competitive modes. If not then can’t take the game seriously. Arcade is a competitive mode. Having the ability to spin the ball & boost power doesn't take that away from the game it just changes the target gross score you are trying to achieve. Absolutely! -30 might not be a "realistic" score, but very few can shoot that consistently on the old amateur mode in TW golf. We always had very competitive matches holing out.

I do agree after reading this that a course designer would be great by EA. But in reality, most (95%) of the user made courses in the 2k series are hot garbage. They truly feel like clones. And have very little area uniqueness to them. I blame the outdated graphics engine on this.
Personally EA 23 golf will be for the more serious golfer. One who appreciates authentic courses. Where casual golfers will stick with the money grab washed out 2k23
And I’ve had 2k23 uninstalled from my gaming rig 3 days after launch. No need for me to waste anymore of my valuable time on it.
One thing I would like to see is the Links series get revisited. Maybe Microsoft can throw their hats in the ring again for a video game gold revival series

I’m intrigued by several things from the EA title and all are going to put hard downward pressure on 2k.
1. The graphics look awesome. Running down to 30 FPS must be a typo because otherwise as many have said, this isn’t a “next gen” title
2. Career mode sounds very intriguing based on being able to start as an Amatuer and how realistic the schedule will be based on the courses in the game. No offense to 2k but it cannot be worse
3. It sounds like you’ll be able to play live bots or players during career mode meaning as you walk down the final holes you’ll know where you stand and this is very cool.
4. The animations for the golf ball and how it work look absolutely stunning
I guess we’ll know more upon release but 2k has Tiger and a course designer to help keep itself unique and neither in my opinion have been used correctly
