As long as 2K has a course designer I don't see official course licences being an issue. I'm sure it will continue to get annoying having to look for alternative names but it won't be an issue unless there is some major clamp down. If EA gets the rights to Augusta and St. Andrews, and as the EA press release mentioned they already have the rights to Pebble Beach, you can be assured that it won't just be changing names to avoid issues anymore. I would assume in the future 2K game, any replica, even if it's named "The Bing Crosby Classic" or whatever, will not just be censored but will be removed/deleted from the servers. They would not only have Pebble Beach after them, but EA as well.

Interesting. Those who love mid-air ball spinning will be excited There was a time when HB Studios did work on the old TW EA games. I wonder if EA snags an exclusive Augusta license out from under 2K’s feet. They have a history of outbidding 2K for exclusives and having it last years (NFL/Madden). The majors are the missing piece for whichever golf game can scoop them up - Augusta/The Masters being the crown jewel of that group. EA already announced in the press release they are going to have Pebble Beach, so I could see them having the USGA license again. And whoever scoops up the PGA rights could also have access to the Ryder Cup. I’m not sure the PGA or even USGA are into exclusivity on the video game front. I don’t recall either making that kind of deal with anyone. I think they are both willing to make money from all fronts. Augusta is a different animal though. I could see them playing the exclusivity card, for a super high price too. They are definitely the trophy wife in all of this

The dumpster fire that was the Rory game gives me pause. Time will tell.

That's fair, but with the way they're censoring course names in 2K21, it sure seems like certain courses like St Andrews, Augusta, and Pebble are less likely to just let anyone and everyone use their property. They'd likely all be in for exclusive rights. I suppose we'll find out soon enough!

It’s understandable that they are protecting their brands. The brands and their legacies have monetary value to them. Although 2K doesn’t make money off those user created courses, the courses add immense value to the game. One could stand on the “free advertising” hill but do those iconic courses really need any advertising to begin with? Probably not But like you said, we will see how it plays out. I don’t expect any PGA exclusivity but I do expect EA to pull the Augusta exclusive card. Hope I’m wrong.

I guess I'm just saying that, since those courses are so strict about their rights and usage, they'd be more likely to only offer exclusive rights.

Interesting. Those who love mid-air ball spinning will be excited Me me me me me The best arcade player I have ever seen. Hope you get it back . Amazing how we had no golf game after 14 now we might have two from two huge development teams. Not sure this market share is worth such attention but my money is on Tiger. Ironic huh. No one saw this coming.

I enjoyed the Holeout games. Sim style golf is fun too and I really enjoy this tour. But playing cornhole from 150 yds is my favorite. Putting is for losers lol

Here's a preview of what EA's new [re-]entry into the golf arena will look like:
In my view, PGA Tour 2K21 is simply a much better looking game aesthetically. 2K's grass textures, water textures and all others are much nicer and much better detailed. In 2K, the bunkers look vastly better (including rake marks, edging, ball marks & roll trails, etc.); one can almost see the individual grains of sand. The transitions from fairway to rough and from fairway to green, etc. look much better in 2K. Additionally, 2K's Course Designer feature allows for a wonderful abundance of terrific [community-created] courses. In short, 2K is simply a better looking game and a more complete package. I'm obviously not sure how the actual gameplay between the two compares, but simply from what I see in this video review, this iteration of the old EA TW golf franchise simply doesn't "wow" me, it doesn't impress me. The ball flight in the referenced YT video looks cartoonish. Will I give EA a whirl when it's released? I'm not so sure; TW/EA has had its day, just as Links 2003 (once, the "Gold Standard" of virtual golf) had its day...... From my perspective, 2K will [continue to] be the more enjoyable platform in comparison with EA's reincarnated TW game even with its new face, Rory.
Cheers,
Sandy ("Popeye" ; ) )
