not compared to EA on the xbox so am i because i am bored with 23 mainly because i have no interest in Ranked matches and the tours, although i do enjoy playing in the seniors society It's best to ignore people like that. Some people are not mature enough to handle 2 different games in the same genre without sounding like some fanboy. It's like those who always argue about Gran Turismo versus Forza. There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying what each offers, all while saying each one can do a better job in certain areas. Metacritic is between a 76 and a 78 for PGA 2K23. EA's PGA Tour is between 72 and 77. That tells me both games can do a lot better. I have finally finished a full season on career mode in EA's game. That's hundreds of rounds on default difficulty which is very easy when your player is a 95 rated (I think that's the highest you can get, you cannot max out everything). I played a couple of rounds on the next hardest difficulty, took away the swing arc that helps you with the wind, never used the putting line, and don't use the angled swing for fade and pull shots, never use the extra spin toggle either. The swing is still quite easy but I don't want a swing mechanic that doesn't allow me to have much control and it's all over the place. A 95 rated player should not be missing a bunch of fairways or greens anyways and I want the game to be fun. I still miss some greens and a lot of my shots that do land on the green are more than 15 feet away. That's how I like to play. I don't want to play where I have no idea where I am aiming or what the wind is like or no grids on the green. Why? Well because I don't have a caddie telling me what the wind speed is or the ability to pick up some grass to see how strong the wind is. I also don't have a caddie telling me where to hit the ball. I also don't want to play 4 practice rounds, then memorize the fairways and green layouts. Why? Because it's a videogame! Anyways I am getting sick of EA's PGA Tour as well. It does not have the legs due to the online and doesn't appear to have a dedicated forum like this with weekly tournaments. That's 2K23's bread and butter, along with course creation but to repeat, that game lost my interest too because visually it's not all that impressive and the scoring on the weekly events are silly as well when you have players shooting so low of scores each week in every category. CC-A, top 10 players from -42 to -50. CC-D top 10 players -33 to -47. CC-H top 10 players -26 to -36. CC-L top 10 players -3 to -27. Cut lines: CC-A = -15 CC-D = -10 CC-H = -2 CC-L = +9 The way it should work is anyone who scores better than the cut line in the above category should automatically go up a tier. We should not be seeing players in CC-H scoring -26 to -36 and the cutline on the same course and settings in CC-A is -15. Or someone in CC-L scoring -27. I'd like to see more movement each week for the lower and best players, and one of the ways to do that is the leaderboards should also not be posted until the rounds close.

Granted putting without grids takes a lot of practice and after a while you really get an eye for those breaks. A big part of putting no grids is to have good pace on your putts. You don't want to be over hitting your putts by 6 foot as putting is so much more difficult than with grids on. Putting in real life is very difficult, I was watching The Canadian Open and they were commenting on how difficult it is even for pros. The make percentage of a 30 footer is something ridiculously low at about 5% and 20 foot only 15% We all play the game differently even the sim guys do. My preferred way to play 2K23 now is legend swing difficulty with all aids off. Is it easy, no it isn't. Is it too hard, of course not my first 2 rounds on these setting in the TAN society were -5 and -4. My criticism of EA's game is from my point of view of how I play the game not how others should. And my biggest criticism is the game has not feel to your shots at all. I haven't even bothered to reinstall it to see what no grid putting is like. I think @craigh1989 anolagy of comparing it to a strategy game where it's more about set up than execution is pretty spot on, though that flop shot is extremely overpowered, laughably so. To me golf is 20% set up management 80% shot execution. The whole it's a video game statement I keep reading is utter nonsense, so all sports video games shouldn't have a more challenging difficulty settings then. Racing games shouldn't give you the option to turn off racing lines and breaking points. A lot of people get bored if the hardest difficulty is too easy as much as those who find it too difficult. The more options and difficulty settings the better. I do understand your frustration at trying to be competitive on TGCTOURS and the scores are too low. The only way is start a private society and invite similar skilled players. Also there are a lot of great societies out there. That Band Of Brothers society is a great one from what I hear about them.

@hammers1man can't argue with any of that.
I wish they'd lean more into it revolving around strategy and set up. As you say, fix the flop - I get around that by only using it when I would irl, not perfect but I enjoy it more that way - and have more variation in outcomes from bad lies etc. But I can't lie I'm absolutely enjoying it as it is now as my 'other game' among a few in rotation. Too many good games out, and coming out, this year!
Hope to see that TAN society take off. Those would be my ideal settings for the tours. That was how I played when I had the PlayStation (for a couple of weeks lol) and far and away the best way to play 2K imo. Great fun!

Thanks Craig, we all need to make the most of cross play live full sim. That's the part of the game that really shines most for me, a few friends playing private matches. Legend/zero aids, it's like playing a round with mates. So you need to get a Razer Wolverine V2 as longpole says it plays well on Xbox with legend. Yes there are a lot of good games out and fitting them all in is hard, 2K23 is the only game I have interest in playing online with others though. Golf is very social to me, in real life and digital. So even if 2k23 had the best single player career I still probably wouldn't touch it. I just found both game's single player boring, playing with an AI in EA felt like playing with Patick Cantley every time as it was so very slow. I did laugh when he missed a 2 footer though the time I did play with his AI golfer.

I play golf, I also drive a vehicle, so the fact you cannot distinguish a videogame from real life is baffling to say the least. Gran Turismo is called a racing simulator. So why don't the cars actually crash like real vehicles? Videogames are meant to be fun which is why there is always a balance between realism and getting sales of a game. Nobody wants to be forced to play a 5 hour baseball game, that's why videogames allow you to tweak the settings. Heck even the MLB is trying to speed things up. Yes we practice in these games to get better, but to compare it to real golf that's where you lost me. Videogames take the whole physical attributes of the sport away from the player. Do you feel the club when you're in the deep rough? Do PGA players shoot -50 every weekend? It doesn't matter how hard you make a videogame, players will always find leverage. You can't do that in real golf other than practice and equipment. We don't walk the course, most of us also don't spend 15 minutes analyzing a putt like Bryson does. They do that because there's a lot at stake. Here you miss the cut, oh well. Get an X mark. Just shoot the lights out next week and you're back to where you were. The tension, the risk, the stamina, the concentration. It all pales to real golf. So get over it, it's just a game. Enjoy what you enjoy.

I am talking about simulating the difficulty of PGA Tour golf and playing with grids off and legend difficulty certainly brings that in for me. I know it's not swinging a real club blah blah blah. I actually have the Golf CLUB VR which is much more like walking a real course. You keep saying it's a video game and it's supposed to be fun. A golf game being too easy is not everyones idea of fun. As Craig said he misses the challenge of 2K21 tee to green and legend is his preferred difficulty as he finds 2K23 too easy tee to green on master difficulty. Let's just leave it at that as we both play 2K23 very differently. I am still enjoying it's challenge immensely and you are bored of it and I think that says something.

"I am still enjoying it's challenge immensely and you are bored of it and I think that says something." All it "says" is that I've put in hundreds of hours into each iteration of TGC. I am excited with each new release but what I'm waiting for is an all new engine (visuals need a major upgrade in certain areas like the grass on both the fairways and greens, the sound of the ball landing, shadows, characters, etc.) and a revamped career mode. Of course I've enjoyed the series, I buy it as soon as possible and never waited for sales, which it does go down in price very quickly after release. EA's game is a lot easier but it too can be set for more challenge as well. I just found the career mode way more compelling and the game looks a lot better, sorry. I just re-installed 2K23 and it is very clinical looking and the sounds of the fairways, the grids on the greens and the putting surface in general does not look very appealing. The characters also look like last gen. The base of the game is great, the physics and golf swing. It just needs an overhaul visually and some of the audio. Now what does it say about you who keeps coming back to a thread about a game you don't have installed and one that you are not interested in?

Having played this game for 3 years, I was pleased to see EA offer an alternative. After 3 weeks playing EA, I rarely play 2k. It's not because of graphics or career mode, it's simply because of tempo. I guess EA is technically easier on average settings, but I like focusing on club selection, environmental factors, and shot set up. With 2k I can get all those settings right, and a tempo glitch has me burying the swing meter very fast or slow, it's just frustrating.

Mostly agree, gatorman - although I will say the dispersion/RNG has me equally frustrated at times on the EA game. Especially in windy conditions.
