Hi everyone! This is my first published course in PGA 2K21. I have always been into design and golf course architecture dating all the way back to SimGolf many years ago. I wanted to get started on the Rustic theme (which turned out to be more of a challenge than I first thought). My goal with Quarry Lake was to create a diverse course with options on every whole. I tried to stay away from true target golf but do have some elements of that style of architecture in my design. The planting is inspired by the scenery I find on many of my home courses here in Colorado (Colorado Golf Club and Pradera mainly). I really would appreciate some constructive feedback as I am tackling a links type course in the style of a sand hills region course (like Ballyneal, Sand Hills, etc.) next which should feel starkly different from this one. Big shoutouts to Crazycanuck1985 , b101 and mattf27 for their awesome tutorials and videos that helped me immensely. Quarry Lake is a narrow course built on the property of an old rock quarry. The main quarry was filled to make the lake you see on holes five through eight. There are other tailings ponds around the course that come into play and old rail ties used as retaining walls around some of the green sites. It is here where you will find a humble golf experience. The course does not yield easily but if you play the course with respect and thoughtful shot placement you might just come out under par. Welcome to Quarry Lake!

First course my ass.
In all seriousness, some people really have a knack for this right out of the gate.
This looks like a quality first course.

I appreciate the kind words. I spent an embarrassing number of hours tripping over myself in the designer to make this course. I did halfway make a course in TGC 2019 but never published it.

Looks absolutely amazing, I’ll have to give it a try later tonight. Great presentation as well.

Hi patlouvar,
I just played your course and I thought it was fantastic, especially for your 1st course! I really like the environment you created here; you definitely nailed the rustic vibe and it reminded me a lot of some of the nicer courses you can find here in Wisconsin. I loved that you started off with a long Par 5 to really make a statement and overall I thought you were really creative with your hole design. The hole-by-hole descriptions and screenshots are really nice touch as well.
My criticisms of the course are pretty few and far between but I'll try my best: - Hole 4: the double green is an interesting idea and I don't love it or hate it. For hole 4 though, I felt that by using 2 greens, it detracted from each green on its own. Each could have used more bunkers or elevation to make them stand out better. - Hole 10: the no bunkers idea was unique and it was definitely still a challenging hole without them. However, given the great bunker work on the rest of the course, it made this hole just feel a little incomplete to me. - Hole 11: very minor critique but the rocks behind the green could've used some grass in front of them to hide the sharp edge between the rock and the ground. - Hole 14: for how the rest of the course was laid out, this hole seemed a little out of place with its simplistic design. A stream, pond, fairway bunkers, or a combination would've made this hole more interesting. - Hole 17: really minor again, but maybe some grass on and around the retaining walls just to add a bit more detail
Other than those things I thought the course was awesome. I shot -6 from the blacks on Pro, but I really had to fight for that score. My favorite holes were 1, 3, 5, 6, and 15.

I wasn't really sure how I felt about the double greens either. I'm still convinced it could work as a theme so it's going into the personal archives for now. Hole 14 was inspired by a hole at my local course that interested me for it's simplicity (my local course has no bunkers on this hole!). I tried to use it as a bit of a palette cleanser before heading into the final stretch. I completely missed those walls on 17! I don't think I'm going to republish it but thanks for pointing that out. At least it's mostly hidden in the shadows, haha. I really appreciate the feedback! Cheers!

This looks great without considering it is your first course! The presentation is excellent as well. I’ve got quite a long backlog at this point, but this is certainly on my to do list.

My first course was straight trash. This looks amazing. I can tell by the pics and presentation you put a ton of time into it. Well done.

Appreciate the kind words. I do a bit of graphic design so I had to dress it up a bit. Let me know what you think when you get around to it! My first course was straight trash. This looks amazing. I can tell by the pics and presentation you put a ton of time into it. Well done. Haha, I put more time than I care to admit but a lot of it was just fumbling around trying to learn the designer. I think my next courses will be significantly less time consuming. I can only imagine the hundreds (if not 1000+) of hours that went into learning the designer without the help of the awesome tutorials we have now.

First course or not....this was a really good track for the first 7-8 holes I played. The only thing that annoyed me was the retaining wall on #3 I think. I ended up short up on top of the green and it put my second shot right up against the wall which obviously I had no chance to get a shot off. Aside from that, great start to your portfolio. When I get back from Florida I will schedule it for a Friday night on stream with the Xbox guys. Again, great work. Beats the sh%$ out of my first publish.

In all my playtesting I couldn't get a shot to land there. I wouldn't do the walls again that close to the green. They look nice but playability wise they can be frustrating. Really appreciate the play and feedback. Let me know when you're doing that stream. I'd love to come check it out and see what the Xbox guys have to say. Cheers!
