I acknowledge my Tom F'ery and apologize for misbehaving. I should have never made accusations of there being a "c" word here. Clearly there is not. I have been very forthright with my words and constantly on the attack. Consequently painting myself in a bad light. I've decided to put the QBH persona to rest. He was old, tired, and increasingly more annoying by the day. Just a surly old bugger, heck, by the end of it, even I didn't like him. Say hi to Championship Roads. It works... on so many levels. You can call him Champ if you like - I sure will. The Champ is kind of like one of those tomagachis we all had as kids, where you had to feed them virtual food to keep them alive. Champ must be cared for much the same way. The only difference is Champ thinks he's real. He even has his own tweety and twitchy and whatever else the teenagers are into these days; really quite depressing if you think too much about it. In order for The Champ to stay alive, he must feed upon 3rd person references, fully pumped tires on lower tier luxury cars, frisbee golf, using words like 'projects', food that does actually suck, touting about youth/charity golf events, and the smell of his own farts. Things that weaken Champ: little green fellas that live in caves, the "c" word, criticism, sarcasm - he defffffinitely won't get sarcasm, less than 1500 tweetys, and repetitious course designs - yuck! Champ is just a clean livin SOB.
Champ Roads has been working on this project 🤮 diligently. He even took time to flatten the occasional tee block. Champ loves making the same course over and over again. He says "Calhoun County is just me searching for approval amongst the trees". However, Champ selected an area outside of North Carolina for a change and it nearly killed him. This time, we move slightly more south; to the Sandhills of South Carolina 🙄.
Just on the outskirts of Congaree National Park you'll run in to the Calhoun County Golf Club in very early spring; where the dogwoods are just beginning to bloom, but the native and rough grasses are still dormant. The bermudagrass fairways are overseeded with rye grasses and the putting surfaces are painted by the grounds crew, a lively shade of green. Bunker areas transition from waste area to playable surface quite realistically. As always, you'll encounter many Donald Ross-esque fairway layouts - choke points are noticable, but not overly intrusive - and many raised turtle back greens with moderate run-offs. The course affords the opportunity for a couple of hero lines, but overall it's a course that's very much right in front of you. This is definitely not an all risk reward match club.
The course was built under the following criteria: under 7k yds, steppe themed, and 3 greens within 50 yds. The course plays quite easy in stagnant conditions. And moderate in medium winds (somewhere in the -6 to -10 range). Lighting is set to emulate early - mid March; so the colors may look slightly washed out (there may be a summer version soon, but who cares 🤷). Defaults are around 3:30pm, medium fog (don't worry about the time of day - fog conflict), firm FWs, and firm greens running at 177.
I know everyone is itching to get after the Champ, so let him 8 Mile this junk to get you started: I hate that I even 'cliqued' on this one. Dumb course, too flat. Umm, isn't this just the same course you keep making just trying to get approval - give it up dude, you are appalling. I saw a line wiggle on (hole #s) tee boxes 😂 Hole 8 is dumb. Waste area is awful. Too many easy holes. Too many hard holes. Too many random holes. Quirky hole designs on (insert # ). Waste area near tees was overused. Splines look bad. Greens on holes (# ) were too big. Greens on holes (# ) were too small. Hole 13 was just terrible! It felt way too contrived. Some of the water was a tough carry in (very specific) wind. Color scheme was bad. Lighting was bad. Inner planting was so so, outer planting was bad. Needed more fairway sculpting on holes (# ). Some objects seem purposelessly placed. Clubhouse/ resort center looked real bad. Greens were definitely not consistent in size, shape, sculpting, and certainly not in difficulty. Overall, I hated the experience.
Hopefully that will save you some typing.

Champ will be playing by the rules. He's even decided to include hole specific write-ups like everyone else to show his care and attention to detail. 1 - in true Donny ross fashion, you get to ease into your round with an easy birdie. Avoid the temptation of driver; three wood is likely the club of choice as the fairway is widest at 220-250yds. 80-90 yard approach shot. Turtle back green - quite mild but slender 2 - still easing in with another easy birdie. Par five with easy to cover waste area down the left. 2nd shot is 230-245 to a green funneling most shots to the middle. Run off back and front. 3 - a short par 3 volcano hole. Green slopes back right to front left. 4 - the difficulty ramps up slightly here for this par 4. Fairway is choked at 290. 2nd shot will be uphill to a green angled away, from the player's left. 5 - waste area in front of the tee makes the hole appear longer. A very short par 4, with a bottle neck fairway in driver landing area. 3 wood is likely the best choice. Front pins provide major temptation for driver. 6 - a dogleg right hole playing back into the heart of the course. (Watch your club selection, 3 wood default for some players.) This is the first hero line of the day. Take on the right hand waste area or play a safely shaped shot to the left. 180 - 190 yd approach to a green running slightly away from the player make front pins tough. 7 - a par 4 with a water hazard left that is easily carried even into a moderate head wind. Playing right of the water is also an option. This is one of the tougher holes on the course, with par being a good score. A birdie almost certainly gains a stroke on the field. 8. A very short template, slightly downhill par 3. Playing for the center of the green is safest, as pin hunting can be risk reward for shots going long. 9. A straight forward par 5 with trouble left and right off the tee. A large green receives approach shots well, and will likely funnel to desired pins based on shot shape. 10. Eases you into the back nine. Easy par hole with a layup or take advantage of the 2nd hero line of the day and try to ride up on to a right to left sloping green. 11. As far left off the tee is best, as fairway contouring will throw center fairway shots towards the right-hand FW bunker. 140 to a long, slender green. 12. A long uphill par 4. The right bunker is an easy cover in mild wind - left is safe in a head wind. A 160 -180 uphill approach to a left to right green awaits. 13. A relatively easy par 5. This hole can be taken advantage of with a right to left tee ball, cutting off significant distance. If going for the green in two, playing to the center is most likely the play. Otherwise, an easy layup in pitch shot territory is the play. 14. a mid length par 3. The green runs left to right with 2 distinct tiers. 15. A drive-able par 4 to another true turtle back. Off center tee balls will never hold the green and are likely to run into bunkers. 230 - 240 yd layup area is generous. Driver is almost never the play. 16. A make or break par 4, with hero line no. 3. How much of the right hand bunkers do you chew off? As the green contouring runs slightly away from the player. Thus, longer iron approaches have trouble holding close to forward pins. Advantage to players hitting shorter irons. 17 -The penultimate hole is the longest par three on the course and the most difficult green to hold. A 200 yd tee shot to a turtleback green with 180 degree run-offs. Front-center shots will hold the green. Likely to be the hardest hole on the course. 18 - an opportunity to make up ground on this switchback par 5 provides players a bomb and gouge option. Best play is right to left from tee, then left to right for the 2nd. Left side fairway slopes left to right to help with the right handed players' cut ball for the 2nd. A hard left tee ball could find the water and an extreme right ball will have to be shaped around fairway right foliage. Otherwise, hammer time to try and get home in two. The green funnels center, to center right.
Follow these notes and you'll like score in the lower-mid teens.

I pen from mother's basement, to acknowledge my transgressions against the falsely perceived coterie. Many of you have been at the brunt of the social wrecking ball that is QBH. Sashaying through the virtual world as if my words don't offend the pragmatic. The arrogance and enmity have been harrowing. As a man of minute intelligence, I must make up for this shortcoming with hostility. Nevermind there was an entire thread created, unbeknownst to the QHB, turned to the mockery of one of my courses; prompting the creation of the diabolical QBH (sorry, I don't live on here, so I missed some things during all of that). No inkling of issuing a public apology from those involved - but I will! When I was sincere with another member and showed remorse, I was met with "nothing will be lost when you leave"... Do not apologize, for I will. When I joined the rangers to try and become a "positive member of the community" and try to make amends for my wrongdoings, I was met with; "he only joined to troll for information on his own courses"... Do not apologize - I WILL.
Due to these specific incidences mentioned, I created a thread where I called out members of the community that I felt had wrong me. I should have never done this. Next time, I will take it on my underling chin; you have my word. Anyone tagged in the Big Bad Box thread, you have my apology. The Champ is here and he lies down for everyone. Conflicto no más.
Mostly, I would like to apologize for the existence of a serious no no word on one of my prior courses (I'll omit the course name as it needs no further attention). On the off chance the individual at the forefront of my slur is on this website, to you sir, I apologize whole heartedly. No matter you called me a see you next Tuesday on a public message board. I'll step up and apologize for both of us; as I am completely certain you would do the same... The word I used is unacceptable no matter the context. I should have known better. I apologize to anyone who was offended by the atrocious slur.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that part of my punishment could include being last in queue for course approvals; under the guise of "We get tons of courses pal, plus you're a meanie and you expect your course to be done right away? Get lost Champ" .
But really, leaving my course on 'claimed' for approx 2 weeks is only making me look more and more credible by the day. Can't imagine that is something that's wanted, round these parts. I'm just guessing here, but I would think, claimed means it was seen, claimed, and then purposely "forgetten". I'm certain I'll be corrected on this assumption though.
It's either a punishment or trying to goad me into saying something dumb (insert meme insinuating "you do that just fine on your own bud"). Either way, (let me get my best valley girl voice going) ...it's kind of like, for reals, bringing validity to some of the things I may have said in the past (that I certainly do not believe now).
I couldn't even guess who claimed it either, I bet. Happy Friday!

Well, the last post to "Courses Not Approved" was 2 days ago. Could it be that maybe, just maybe, the reviewers are a bit busy at the moment? That maybe a metric tonne of courses have come out in the last couple of weeks and they're a bit behind?
No, that can't be it. It must be that everyone is out to get you. That's it.

I hate to be that guy but... 1) I did already take that shot at myself. 2) dates of courses are pretty easily cross referenced 3) there are tons of new courses, agreed. If they were that far behind, probably wouldn't be approving courses that were listed less than 24 hours ago. 4) I dont mind, I can wait. I'm just verbalizing an observation.

You're right to flag it up - someone claimed it who has reviewed a lot since, so I guess they just forgot to input their review once claimed. You won't believe it, but it actually has nothing to do with you - this does happen every once in a while. We'll get it sorted ASAP.

Sorted - I picked this one up in the end. Really enjoyed my round and good luck in the side contest. A few of the long par fours really bit me (and I flip-flopped a bit over the 17th green). Nice look and your courses really do keep getting better - certainly come a long way from Preserve and Quarry way back when.
Wonder where you'll go next on your travels. Virginia? Georgia?
