Welcome to Turaco Preserve S.A., my submission for the 2021 World Cup Design competition. The course is fictionally located in the Garden Route district at the tip of South Africa along the cliffs of the Indian Ocean. Turaco Preserve takes inspiration (topographically and trees/bushes/landscaping) by local golf clubs- Pezula and Kynsna Golf Clubs. The routing of the course meanders through the main topographical features of the site- barrancas, seaside cliffs, and mountain side forest.
Turaco Preserve is a Par 70 (5-10-3) and provides two set of tees- Red (6775y) and Green (6980y). Default Greens are Firm (7.8) and roll at 165 speed. Wind will determine the difficulty of the course- the casual players will enjoy the low and medium winds, while the professionals will find the high winds a challenge.
Designer Notes- The course was designed in Highlands theme, and is unfortunately bound by the default slow/slow fairway glitch- the Course was designed to be played with very fast and very firm fairways. Default lighting = no shadows on the greens. The barrancas are not OB... play out at your own risk and the unplayable lie option is your friend. The last playtest was at 187 speed greens- and the pins held up well, if you care to be that daring. Soils of this region of South Africa are characterized as very fine sand and based on extensive Geotech boring Soils analysis, drain immediately (preemptive bird bathing green drainage comments).
Mr Karma, if you could perform some Magic for me would be much appreciated!

Look foward to giving this a try! I live in the garden route in a place called Plettenberg bay which is 20 min from knysna. Played knysna golf club a few times yet to play pezula but on the list to try play this year sometime. Lots of amazing courses in this area... Anyway nice to see a course set in my country!! Goodluck in the design competition

Loved everything about this. The environment, the planting, were all top notch. Got lucky with some low winds and did fairly well but can see how this could be a bear in higher winds. Great job!

karma4u thank you immensely for the awesome pics! fuzz in doing my research for this course- I spent a lot of time in this area in Google Earth... what an amazing area you live in. I hope to visit some day- and I'll definitely get a round in at Pezula. scootmcgoot all of my previous courses tend to be more difficult than I think (based on my courses on Platinum tour)- so I scaled back a bit on the difficulty- make it more fun for the Casual players... yet my play test rounds in high winds and fast greens were very interesting for my ability.

I enjoyed my round. Good diversity of shot types and angles to the greens. I was rewarded for staying on fairways and sticking approaches, and was scrambling for par or bogey when I strayed from that path. I enjoyed the environment, and it felt like a real life stroll along the coast. Well done and good luck!

Just played... this is a great course. Every tee shot makes you think where you need to go, and where you must not go. You just can’t rip it without thinking about what might happen. Reminded me in places of that big famous course in California. The one with a two-part name. The first part of the name is a smallish stone, the second part is a stretch of sand where you can sunbathe while on holiday, before perhaps enjoying a dip in the ocean. You know the one.
Thoroughly enjoyed my round. If anyone wants to take on my Friday March 26 ghost round in matchplay... good luck on the 5th hole... you’ll need it. 😊

Really enjoyed that course man! Game gave me 19mph winds so I played like garbage, but awesome environment and some very tough holes. Great job!

Thanks for the course David... really enjoyed it today with Carol, Art and Mick... just a shame I didn't win a lot of money during the skins match.

Oh look another Plat course!
On a more serious note, this is a sneaky good course full of lovely amounts of challenge, played it on High South Winds with VF/VF settings and got my butt kicked handily. Our group is getting scarier by the minute!

Thoroughly enjoyed my battle at Turaco Preserve. The course lends itself to some thrilling golf, with plenty of opportunity for edge of your seat shots to arise during a round, but it never felt overdone to me. Very good job here sir.

Hopefully you catch up on the VoD - I really enjoyed my round, particularly the more open holes to the tail end of the front nine. Felt it was really scoreable and rewarded good/smart play, whilst allowing you to be creative with shotmaking - something I rate highly. Good luck with the contest!

Played this with a nice glass o wine after dinner last night, of course expecting a very good course from my fellow Casual, DD....but I have to say this was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!! If you haven't played it yet, give it a whirl. Dude nailed it. Very playable yet creative. Excellent planting, shot framing. Total package here. Great job DD!
