I'll probably screw myself partly with this in the contest, but the judges are definitely smart enough to figure it out anyway... I screwed up! I had so much tunnel vision for making the planting and barranca work and to keep the routing tighter because the steppe theme doesn't come with any help from base planting in the meter, and in all of that I never protected the holes from being "broken" by using the other fairways. I appreciate the confidence trailducker , but on this one I just messed up my routing and it'll definitely cost me points because some of the strategy on the holes as they are individually designed is negated by just hitting it to a different fairway. Bottom line... fail. btw, I personally don't think this is a fail. I think its just part of golf sometimes.

Like all great designers, Eric is being hard on himself here. Are there things that could have been done differently? Sure. But this is *not* a fail!

Another one of your “subtly awesome“ tracks here sir! Tons of strategy and high value shot making opportunities on every hole here. I really had to pick and choose when to be aggressive and when to lay back. Personally, I liked how the routing on this one allowed me to pick and choose from multiple fairways on this one. It may be “cheesy” to some but to me it simply offers more opportunities to choose the “best” way to play each hole without having 100 yard wide fairways 👍🏻. I also liked how driver was challenged perfectly on every hole (where applicable) on this course. There weren’t any holes where driver was a definite “no go” but there also weren’t any holes where driver was a “gimme” either. It really does a nice job of presenting a constant risk/reward factor to every tee shot which helps keep things interesting. The last thing I thought was very well done on this course that I think a lot of players might fail to recognize immediately is the quality green sculpting. There’s several “sneaky” greens on this one where a mid/long iron will hold the green but if you want to get close, you’ll need to be going in with a short iron or wedge thus encouraging players to take more risk off the tee. Love that kind of subtle strategy! Really love your courses man. They’re challenging, well crafted, and beautiful but the golf is always the primary focus 👍🏻. Good luck in the contest hope you do well!

Bottom line... fail. Soooo, Ive played all the WCOD courses and i think there is an alternate fairway exploit on most of 'em. There probably will be one on my wcod course as well. Heck, early on even the fabled "Firethorn" had problems with people hitting into the 1st's fairway on hole 9 because of how it doglegs. I was so afraid of this problem on my last course (asylum) that almost all the holes are straight shots (which pretty much only Ben noticed lol). I must say a lot of the fairway alternatives dont play too horribly and I liked the concept of a more manicured waste bunker style. A completely unique look here that I can really appreciate!

Yet another great entry into your backlog of amazing courses. And it looks like my guess in location wasn't too far off!
As for hitting into other fairways, I did it a few times, but it wasn't necessarily because of a strategic way of getting to the hole, I just felt some other fairways were easier to access (i.e. wider or didn't have as big of a hazard to worry about)

Thankfully I am finally getting around to playing more of these courses, and just got around this one today. I thought it was excellent, quite fun, I enjoyed the uniqueness and the lack of "TGC templatey" type holes. Definitely interesting and full of replay value, great job Eric!

It'll be interesting to see how the large number of desert/steppe courses do in the contest. Despite the similarities in theme, they all look and play so different. Best of luck this year!

Pinnacle Ridge (Tourney) is now available for play. It features improved playability, new tees, and enhanced aesthetics. Huge shout-out to toddfather , CiB0RG , csugolfer60, and TeeeJ9798 for the assist!
