Good sunday evening fellow elite golfers. We are now at week 24 which brings us two ways to advance up the tgctours ranks with promotion event #3 and our weekly elite rounds, this time at Asylum by Q . From the designer: Asylum is my Second Course and is a formation of a thought experiment of "What if Sheep Ranch and Pacific Grove's Back 9 had a mountainous baby?" This course has wide fairways but do not be fooled, it is a hard test that punishes errant shots harshly while still remaining scoreable and rewarding for hitting good ones. -------------I am looking forward to my rounds later this week. But having played this course several times already I can promise you that while the fairways feel wide and inviting (allowing you to "choose your own adventure") you still have to be careful to find the right angles in to most of these pins.
I think this will be a fair test, but just for good measure we threw in a couple of high wind rounds to try and keep you guys in check. It is getting harder and harder to do that with these scores, but I am enjoying seeing everyone improve. Enjoy!

Beauty of a course this week. Started off with a bang...
R1 -13 R2 -8 -21 @ thru 2
Couldn't quite get the putts going on the 163s R2 but felt although shorter maybe played tougher overall than R1. Perhaps thats just me but we will see. Ended up on the top right side of the green on 18 in R2 just 75ft out and opted for the splash instead of putting up and over. Felt cheesy as hell but knew it was the smart move to guarantee the birdie and that it did. Hoping to put together a couple more solid rounds and get the two greenies and up to Plat.

One of the best looking courses I’ve played on this tour to date IMO. Challenging tee-shots but and some tricky greens but scorable if you put it in the right areas.

Really enjoyed the challenge of this course. I played a handful of practice rounds here and knew there was trouble lurking... Sure enough I found it.
I was cruising in round 1 - sitting at -7 through 14. A bogey on #15 which I shook off. Then came #17. A few times in practice I went with an overly aggressive line and left myself on the cliff before the fairway. Carrying a score I was pretty happy with I decided to take a safe line. Easily cleared to cliff off the tee, but my ball landed on the downslope of a hump in the fairway and rolled through the fairway in to the rough on the bank of the hill. Now facing a longer shot, from the rough, right to left wind, and ball way above my feet. I aim way right knowing everything will push left. I red fast it... Off of that lie I hit the far left edge of the green and watch my ball roll all the way down the slope and get stuck in the brush. I should have just taken an unplayable, but decided I would try to play it. 3 attempts later I am finally chipping. A chip and a putt for a triple bogey 7. I did birdie 18 to get to -4.
2nd round I played really well and fired a -9 to get to -13. I played as if I was going to miss the cut anyway so maybe I'll get lucky. I don't think I'll be the only one with a blowup hole this week. We'll see if -13 can get close to the cut. Still thinking no, but hopefully I'll at least avoid the demo mark I thought I would be getting.
Despite my poor play I loved this course. A couple of those par 3's you really can't go at the pin. I would love to see more courses where a 30 foot leave is the smart play. I enjoy having to think my way around a course. Well done!

After this week at asylum I will have acquired 4 demos since you last bug saved my elite life! Shouldn't there be a rule that schedulers have to be on their own tours anyway!?

Finished up the last two rounds at -10 and -9 to finally hit that -40 mark. Bogey free 72 holes with 0 three putts has me feeling good. Still left some birdies out there but nothing I can complain about at this point. Now all thats left is to sweat it out til Sunday and see if its good enough for the last two marks. Really enjoyed the course through and through. A little too angulated thru the fairway at some parts (really only like 1 or 2) for me liking but loved the shaping of the greens. Such a good mix of gettableness(?) and teasing you into to make a bad shot. Par 3's were plentiful and though a couple were similar in appearance actually played quite differently. Great work Q

Petty at +45 and missing the cut every time in Plat How awesome would it be if the average golfer was allowed to tee it up and be on the scoreboard on the pga tour every week? As a marker to show how freakish those guys really are. Same concept here lol.
