I gave the course a run through last night and I enjoyed my round, it's got all the stuff that's expected from Sam. The course isn't too punishing and allows for different approaches to the fair playing greens. As always a lot of time has been spent on the surroundings, clubhouse and planting which adds to the charm of the course.

I would say this is one of your less punishing courses, but one of the latest releases from you that I enjoyed the most. There were some picture perfect sightlines, and I like the difference in environment from some of your more recent courses as well. Overall, well done sir! Keep up the good work.

Cheers gents... thanks for the positive feedback. Finding it really difficult to nail a "tour worthy" stamp with this version of the designer. I know where I went wrong with The Watchtower & Sinopia Valley but scratching my head this time.

Hi Sam, I reviewed it and it's a clear-cut approved for me with sculpting and surfacing issues. At a time when the quality of courses going on Tour and getting the TW stamp is higher than ever, some of these stick out, which is why it's Approved. 1) Planting encroaches on the fairways and forces shots (see some images below). The second tee shot was baffling with trees forcing you to hit driver dead toward a bunker that cambered the ball back into the fairway, whilst 17 put a tree in the middle of the fairway and I don't understand why. None of those decisions make much sense on a playability front. If you're aiming to encourage shot shaping, there are better ways to do it than wind a fairway dead around a tree. 2) Sculpting issues - the greens are basically 'hit tier and have flat putt or don't'. If it's a long shot, it's generally a forced carry all the way to the green with little option to run the ball on. Slopes also often run away harshly - see runoff on 3. 3) Surfacing issues - the green shapes and sizes are occasionally off. Some are tiny (e.g. 7) and feature odd projections that limit pin placements. Bunker dumped right in front of the green on 12 is also a hard no. Some of these are decisions that I would question on a design front, such as the landing zone and using trees as a hazard - fine if you do, but they really should be further away from the fairways. However, sculpting and surfacing are major issues that will always prevent TW. Hope this helps - not intending to dunk on the course, merely to provide feedback as you asked.

Bit unrelated but... just look at the top left of Ben's fifth picture lol.
Nice to see constructive feedback - always valuable, regardless of designing ability.

FYI - just because the Discord is overlaying that onto that screenshot doesn't mean that it has anything to do with the course Ben is playing, or even course design at all. They could be talking about sports, actors, politicians, or any number of topics where that would be a possible response. I just want to make sure we don't falsely attribute that comment where it may not even be associated. Thanks!

Sure it probably wasn't about something that mattered too much. No harm done

There's about 97% of this community that comment could have applied to. 😘 Course looks good Sam, tidy the next one up a bit and you're there

Thanks for the valuable feedback guys.... especially b101 as the reviewers rarely (if ever) comment on why an approved course isn't tour worthy so I appreciate that. Back to the drawing board I suppose armed with a few "no, no's." Keep tryin'

Back to the drawing board I suppose armed with a few "no, no's." Keep tryin' I was looking for the reviewer of my course to give me a few brief thoughts on what he thought was good (if anything) and not so good about it. I wasn't looking for specifics on why it wasn't TW (which I was never expecting anyway) or a lengthy essay on it (although I wouldn't say no ha!). Not too much to ask I'd have thought. Perhaps it's forthcoming but 48hrs later and nothing doing.....I guess probably not. I also fully understand that people have other sh%$ to be doing, so I haven't pushed for it. Although I guess I've used your post to give it a gentle push....so now I feel obliged to give your course a spin.

I'm hoping to get to yours some point and give you a bit of feedback as you've been really active in others' threads. A case of when rather than if, but just a bit busy at the moment.

No rush sir. Absolutely whenever suits you as I'm sure you're plenty busy. Cheers.
