What is the Ryder Cup and events like it mean? Different things to different people I suppose. To most its about this community doing events like this to bring folks together for a common cause. Country/team pride maybe. To others its about meeting some new people who may be on your friend's list but have never played with or talked to before. There were some guys this year who I personally had never heard of or played with that were part of it this year and had a blast despite the outcome. I listened to most of the streams with these guys and they seem like good people that I would love to play with. If you were lucky you may have gotten to play live with guys who may normally not ever play live or ever had the need to play live till now. This event I got to play with SneakyPete who I believe hails from Michigan and he was good fun to play with. (Saved my ass several times in round one. I wish he didn't fast forward his shots all the time and let the drama unfold a little but hey....its all good.) I think there were several others who got to play with or against people for the first time as well and spoke highly of that experience. We get some support on streams by people both within and outside of this community to show off some piss poor golf but it drum up some numbers of people who may otherwise not choose to spend and hour or so time in their lives watching a golf stream. Taff was able to generate awareness to some causes that are important to him and raised some decent money for those causes sponsored in part by people that crossed paths playing video game golf that otherwise may not have been possible or as successful. Things like that is what this meant to me anyway.
Those are some the things that should be celebrated and remembered. Not dredging up old beef about swing tempo. There is a time and place for all that. Much like there is a time and place to use the red fast.

Keep the format. The real Ryder cup has a history of domination over the years. It just makes victory sweeter. I remember Europe winning at the belfry in 1985, I was 12 years old. We had won it once in 50 years. I remember dancing around the room when Craig Stadler didn’t see the beads at his feet and thunder-taffed the ball past the hole to give a half to the Europeans. Then when Sam Torrance sunk the putt for victory...nothing felt sweeter. That’s were my love for the game started.
Anyhoo, I don’t give a flying fcuk about red fasts or if you have to stuff the control up your jacksie to putt straight.You have made a decision to play this game the way you want. I can’t remember the decree that stated that we had to play for perfects and if you want to fight for that hill, that’s your decision.

The CUCC and S&M are great societies full of really good people who enjoy spending far too many hours moving their thumb up and down on a little stick watching a small white dot disappearing (randomly) in to the distance. These Ryder Cups are really special to me, win lose or draw. Lose mainly it seems, but that's ok. We'll win one one day... I'm not a huge fan of the swing mechanic, but I enjoy my game. And I enjoy playing with and against other people enjoying their games. I honestly don't give a monkeys who is doing what as long as no one is cheating. And to be clear, NO ONE in this society is cheating. Congratulations and really well played to OldManGaming606 last night. I played easily my best game of the tournament, hit 7 birds and got beat 4&2! Pleasure to meet you Alan, you smashed it! As did the US team (despite the best efforts of moneyman273 !  ), well played all of you, a deserved and comprehensive win. It's only making us hungrier, long live the Ryder Cup! In other news, I've just found and ordered my Series X, arriving March 31st  . There's some pre orders available at Game, if anyone is interested. |

I think it was a combination of that and watching Sandy Lyle and Nick Faldo win at Augusta that got me in to golf. Even being a huge football (both kinds!) fan, the real Ryder Cup is my favourite sports event of all, easily. The Miracle at Medinha I literally lost my sh%$! Drama, emotion, passion, balls of steel, Poults getting under the Yank's skins (again), can't wait for September! |
