In my last 10 rounds (not just TGCT rounds) I think I have left, on average, 5-7 birdies on the course due to putts that, quiet literally, just sneak by.
I feel like I am hitting my distances perfectly...I don't get much beyond a foot past...but the ball slips by the hole by a ball width or less (usually less). On more than half of them, a portion of the ball is hanging over the hole as it slides by. By now, I am so frustrated with it that it is comical when it happens. I simply laugh.
I cannot necessarily attribute this to bad break reading or distance control because the ball is stopping within 2' (usually past...I rarely miss short.)
I think its simply bad luck.
Not sure though. Anyone else have this experience? You feel like your hitting great distances, and you really are reading putt breaks well..but there is an invisible lid on the hole. Not sure how the game is programmed when it comes to putts that hit the edge of the hole...but for me...if more than half the ball isn't over the cup, it won't fall in.

You have described my putting game to a tee! I cry the first couple of putts then just laugh the rest of the way in.

I am not in the habit of blaming the programming on this issue...I have likened it to real life. Some drop, some don't. However, more seem to be burning the edge of the cup and staying out then are falling.

My putting seems to be very streaky, either I'm putting terribly or I'm on fire... seems like my real golf game..

By now, I am so frustrated with it that it is comical when it happens. I simply laugh. That's how I feel and respond in a nutshell. I laugh but it's a very frustrated laugh. The wife knows that when I'm laughing like that, I'm actually annoyed. I've been known to even sing in frustration!
It really is so frustrating though as I know this inconsistency is probably the biggest thing that is hindering me from being competitive on TGC. My four rounds generally consist of great putting the first, hitting the lip time and time again in round 2, back to my putting best again in the third and the final round is very much like the second. Four perfect rounds is far from easy but the amount of people that do it on here almost week in and week out is staggering!

The new update has tweaked putting again so I gotta get used to it again. The stroke seems more fluid which means I'm often overpowering the ball a bit too much and pushing it through the break. Try and play the break, the ball seems to be breaking more than I'm used to. Ah the joys of updates

I really hate those putts that bend around the hole and end up behind it. I can hear the little bastard ball saying, "Ha Ha!", just like the fat bully from the Simpsons.

So as a new player I shouldn't feel bad that I'm missing putts literally by inches? I'm probably losing 6-8 strokes a round because my putts end up just short or slide an inch by the cup.

Don't fell bad. It still happens to me all of the time. I try to make sure I don't leave it short but still do it from time to time. Are you hitting the putt straight? I've noticed sometimes I'm off and if I'd hit straight I would have holed it.

Usually I'm sliding right past the whole or leaving it on the lip. I have 4-5 tap-ins for second putts per round.

My goal is to get down to around 4-5...I average at least 10 putts that are 1 or 2 inch tap ins a round. My average round right now is in the mid 70's(+3 to +6)...and I'm leaving at least 10 strokes on the course each round because of my putting. That's the only thing that keeps me coming back to this game..because I know overall I'm not playing bad..it's just that one critical element of the game I can't master. Just like real life.

This isn't just for lower tiers. I am a Web.com member. Made all the cuts. Do well for the most part. I played the crazy PGA event in those wnds, and through three rounds I have taken 90 putts. 30 a round is way, way above my norm, given even some of the lenghty two putts I did make.
Putt for dough, drive for mirror image of your ghosts/competition (I mean show)?!?
