Welcome to week 19! This week we head to Gator Creek Country Club by VctryLnSprts. This was, at the time, his only 2k19 course to not get a tour event. That changes this week! I'd say a moderate wind week this week, one low, one high, and two mediums. Greens are fairly quick all week and on the firmer side. If you enjoy the week.. Thank me! If you don't enjoy this week, blame Victory Lane!

Course sure looks different with these time of day and cloud settings. Wasn't sure if I had practiced the right course.
Glad it's over though. I liked the course bigly but I've played my 20+ rounds..next.
Looking forward to next weeks course, looks very nice.
Round report. I suck. Last week Eldorado handed me my ass. I refused to take it and kicked it away. Found my ass on the tee in round 1 today. Guess I kicked it all the way to Florida or where ever this one is. Ass was looking rather beaten up, dirty, tired and overall just scummy (not unlike my real ass). Good 1'st two rounds to possibly make the cut. Then my ass was handed back to me for R3 and 4. Hard to compete or even survive with the random tempo @!$#ery.
Edited to add though. Thanks (so there is your thanks lol. I'll never blame the designer though..ever. Appreciate the work and effort they put in to get their course tour worthy. Even if I have a bad tournament) for the 187's in round 2. I prefer them and practiced a few rounds on them and it showed. I made some wild curvy long putts that got my confidence up...... for a while.
Good luck everyone.

Practice rounds have been up and down all week. We’ll see how this one shakes out. Really nice course though, starting this week we have a bunch of nice courses coming up.

I only got to play one practice round so some less-detailed thoughts about each hole.
GATOR CREEK CC Par 72: 7289 yards
Architect: Victor Lane says: "The Palms @ Gator Creek is fictionally set in the area of northern Florida or southern Georgia, where the juxtaposition between muggy, sticky, and thick native areas is used as a backdrop for gorgeously manicured country clubs. That's exactly what I have tried to accomplish with this course as the clean sand and tight fairways weave their way through the snake and gator infested creeks and brush. I hope you enjoy the look and feel of this hot and humid wetland course!"
We’re heading south for this week’s event at Gator Creek but I have mixed emotions. I have an anti-ugly animal/creature prejudice and don't wear gator shoes like Phil Mickelson - I don't wear snakes around my neck either. Oh and I sweat a lot. I had my eyes closed out of fear for much of my one practice round. I played with the #4 pins. Each green has to be studied closer since each has multiple slope directions to conquer. The majority also have tiers so approaches need to be on the correct level of the pin. It would be a lot to read if I went through each green's sloping - just know lag putting may cause 3-putts. My round was alright until the 16th hole.
1. 4-427. This dogleg left par-4 is not an easy opener with the fairway wrapping around the large body of water left and vast bunkers along the right. The big green has some significant undulations which affect the #4 pin position most.
2. 3-190. #2 handicap The course gets us adjusted to the big bunkering quickly as the tee shot will fly over the 150-yard bunker that leads to a narrow guarded by palm trees and another sandy area. The green itself is severely sloped, splitting the flat areas into 4 sections with additional bunkers hugging the sides.
3. 4-355. Most holes at Gator Creek feature water on the left hand side of the hole but this short par-4’s hazard is on the right. The green is inland and one of the easier ones here. A birdie chance.
4. 5-613. A tree-lined downhill dogleg left that is forgiving to straight drivers but punishes those trying to cut the dogleg. 2 bunkers and a narrowing at the fairway’s turn make it awkward to get beyond the 300-yard mark. The green is sits just near enough to reach if approaching from the fairway. The green tilts towards the water just behind so some shots with a driver off the deck or 3-wood could skid off the green into the blue.
5. 4-423. A straight hole with a wide open landing area for a driver off the tee. The trees that line part of the hole may interfere and the green is dips sharply in multiple areas.
6. 4-416. A hole that slides to the left slightly nearer to a big body of water that’s hungry for balls that fly too far left. This water is desperate enough for a golf ball to wrap around behind the green to be a danger to those who go long.
7. 5-551. A mostly straight hole that like #6, eventually wants to cuddle up close with the huge water body left. Another highly undulating green who has a passionate distaste for eagles can result in 3-putts. The #4 pin is closest to the water and the green falls towards it and then beyond it towards the hazard.
8. 3-179. Easy green to hit, tough to roll the ball on.
9. 4-461. A straightforward par-4 with a green that favors a fade approach. Another huge bunker to the right of the fairway includes trees as a defense.
10. 4-402. The tree standing on the inside of the dogleg right fairway may make you second guess driver along with more spacious bunkers to the right. The tree is just tall enough to affect fades so perhaps a straight 3-wood is the best better for short grass. The green is more tolerable with iron shots than most here at Gator Creek.
11. 5-600. A second 600-yard par 5 plays longer than the first. It’s also harder to see in certain conditions as it’s a hole where fog collects. Hopefully we have some people out there looking for any lost golf balls. With all the water around like on the left side of this hole, some employees may be doing some ball fishing as well – well once I finish my rounds at least. The fairway loses its way in the fog – it’s wide an easy to find off the tee but then weaves around near the water causing a menacing second shot towards a green that likely isn’t reachable. The #4 pin is frightening here – best to use a wedge for the approach.
12. 4-426. A straightaway hole with water left to avoid and greens hugged by bunkers on both sides. Be sure to land on the correct green tier with any approach.
13. 3-241. #3 handicap. This is where I bury my head in the sand or try to drown myself in the expansive water left – so I have options – just like I like with a golf course. The green isn’t any friendlier since approaches have to be precise despite the hole’s length.
14. 4-426. These next few holes act more like golfing buddies instead of being an adversary like unlucky #13. A single palm tree in front of the fairway creates more tee box thoughts and the water left gives little hope to driver users. The green is a bit more forgiving but still divided into pockets so there are multiple slope directions.
15. 4-403. The drive here depends on the wind and the golfer’s nerves of steel – or in my case nerves frayed. A 5-wood or hybrid may be best for a fairway that gets swallowed by water at the 250-yard mark. A drive over the water is possible though. Going with a hybrid leaves a long iron for the approach. I tested this hole by using driver and didn’t reach the land in the 7 mph southwest wind against me but I hit the bridge and bounced onto the other side. I’ll be going with hybrid after that scare.
16. 3-160. Maybe the easiest par-3 because we should be in the habit of avoiding the water by now, the green is not kind and the #4 pin is devilish. Now another scare in my practice round – I hit a light slow tempo and avoided water right by hitting the top of the retaining wall and then my ball bounced over the open mouth of an alligator. Seriously, if this was real life, I’d forget that ball, forget my score on this hole, and just race home. I don’t need this sport if I have to go near an alligator – I had avoided them the entire round along with snakes. Maybe it’s cause I never had a surprise birthday party that I don’t like surprises and that’s why I am now traumatized. I’m done.
17. 5-579. No I’m not writing about this hole – I’m still upset. After multiple people in my foursome called me wimpy, I refused to continue playing but needed my ride home so I watched them finish up. A straight hole with water left and bunkers right, the wavy fairway isn’t overly wide anywhere so accuracy is key whatever the club.
18. 4-437 #1 handicap. Why should I play this hole? Golf is not life or death – I don’t need to fight a gator for my ball like on 16 and this is the #1 handicap. Cringing from the sideline, I see it’s a wavy fairway with water on both sides and bunkerage all over the acreage. Both the tee shot and approach will be potent tests of skills.
I decided when I go back to play the tournament I will just have an extra pouch on my bag to carry food for alligators. I don’t have any human limbs of my own to donate so I will toss some steaks out to any gators that try to eat my ball or me. I just have to run to every ball I hit – I saw one alligator but there could be more – you never know. Good luck, perhaps draw up a will, and don’t laugh at me if you see me running off the course once in a while saying goodbye over the phone to my family.

Meh first round. -1 after five birds and two balls in the water, one which I still managed a par save on. When you're not feeling it you should just put the controller away and come back later.

Two rounds of garbage play and I'm going to miss the cut by a wide margin. It's amazing how you can be on the verge of promotion to CC-F one week and then risk a demo mark in CC-G next week.

My first Tournament in CC-K
Rd 1 66(-6) Rd 2 64(-8)
I’m currently sitting in 1st place at the very early stages of the tournament. I have a lot more work to do but happy for a decent start. The improvements I’ve made is the tempo. Grey fast and Perfects with approach shots were never there prior to when I first got my tour card when started in L back in Oct....I’m also starting to like playing on 187s. The feel is good once you somewhat figure it out. I still like 163 as my choice speed. Good luck to all with your rounds.

Solid round of -8 after ripping off four straight birds on the last four holes.
Happy with that after the slow start but man did I miss an opportunity to go real low in round one. Nerves definitely got to me early on as my tempo was not there.
Trying to go lower or at least replicate that or better in round two as I'm aiming for a top 10 to get me into A this week.
Good luck everyone!

Rolled the front 9 each time, got crushed on the back 9. With the way i hit drives and approaches, feel I should be at -10, not +3. One total melt down hole and a number of balls that hit within 5 feet and just couldn't hold, and missed the 20 foot comeback. Easy front 9 that lulls you to sleep... El Dorado and Ari are mentally demanding from the start.

It’s great to see how your improving and keep it up 👍 Just managed to get my first round in for my first time in E from J after promotion event with a mediocre -3 but it’s under par so can’t complain and that’s what I want to achieve each time. Found the water only once off the 18th tee so thankfully only one wet spell 😄

Not a fan of this course at all. Way too many shadows on greens and the greens have way too much red in different directions at default speed, making landing areas really small or non existent.

Finished up my rounds today. -8 -5 -7
Water and bogeys killed all my momentum. Hopefully -28 can squeak a promo mark

Tough course (though they all are for me! LOL). Someone above mentioned about the small landing areas, which I agree with. You really have to be accurate on your approach shots or risk a looooong uphill putt to try and get close for a par attempt.
After a terrible Round 1 (+5, which I will blame on external distractions. At least that is my story and I'm sticking to it), managed to come back with a -1 in the second round. Usually dont look at the cut line before finishing my second round. Was pleasantly surprised to see that I will probably make the cut.
Heres to rounds 3 and 4

The good news is I had no further alligator problems, the bad news is I got cut for the first time (70,69) since I started taking notes. It may be the first time I only played one practice round. I would have definitely played more practice rounds before I started since I forgot to see the handicap was the highest we've had in CC - a 78.2 for Gator Creek last time I checked. I liked the challenge but my tempo and recovery game was off. I'll get to Whitewater early for extra practice rounds for next weeks Vietnam Open. Have a good weekend everyone.
