Probably my best-kept secret in links golf. In all my fictional courses, there has been no course I've come back to for inspiration more often than Castle Stuart. The two links below should show why: 3c3dfdf2-eb36-481b-a0ff-72c0fd44c597.filesusr.com/ugd/b1a843_696f7f41a2464907be06c49ad3c36c8d.pdf
In and amongst the Bandons, Streamsongs, Cabots, Tara Itis etc of the world, this course has always, for me, flown under the radar a little. Perhaps it's due to being just down the road from Royal Dornoch or it being a 'modern' links, who knows. The more I've read and watched of this course though, the more I think in 50-100 years, it'll be one of the very, very best in Scotland, if not the world. The routing is exceptional - there are some 11 skyline/oceanline greens, Hanse creatively maximises the use of the coast, somehow manages breathtaking 9th and 18th holes that aren't lessened by not being right on the coast and gives an all-world selection of par threes. In fact, pretty much every single hole is jaw-droppingly well-designed. After multiple attempts over the last few months, I've finally got the Lidar data in, done the OSM mapping and we have the course in. Seeing what golfwolfuk managed with grassy links planting on Lost Preserve gave me a renewed desire to bring the course in, so here we are... The backdrop across the Moray Firth will take some figuring out, but everything else looks great. Not much to show off yet, bar the simply awesome natural terrain.

Really looking forward to this. I’m generally disappointed with the representation in this game with links golf,. Not really putting that on some designers, it’s just not easy to do in game with the lack of grass rendering, the difficulty of creating authentic pot bunkers etc, there’s no one else I’d like to see do this than yourself buddy.

Good to see you got better results than I did last year Ben. The Moray Firth side could just be left to water as The Black Isle is actually 6 miles away on the other side of the water.

Had no idea you'd looked at it as well - it's been such a pain to try to drag in. That 'other edge' of the plot was definitely the big decision - played around with moving the course all over the plot to get it to work best and I think this is the way forward. I did consider pure ocean, but think that's probably missing a trick and as long as it looks a long way away, I think it'll work out. Should be a really fun course to build - already in love with so many of the holes.

Super excited about this one Ben! This has been at the top of my bucket list for years. Hanse is one of my favourites and in my opinion the pinnacle of modern Scottish links. The waste bunkers and use of swails adds so much intrigue and the 18th is one of my favourite holes in tournament golf.
Looking forward to trying to pull of Lefty's bunker shot!!

Really looking forward to you doing this one,Has a discussion on twitter about this course the other day,and the Terrain which i imported was so poor especially on the greens compared to the brilliant online course guide the website has i told them in the end wouldn't really be a Lidar course the amount of blendng it needs to it.Played one round on it in game its a stunning course one of the best,so glad someone else is taking on a few UK courses on in game and i can send the person a message the Couse is in great hands to be done well.

Cheers pal - yeah, I think this is pretty decent data, but I'll keep an eye out as I go around as I know they've done some work since. See 5th green below, which looks wonderful - I also think the greens have grown out a bit from the original course guide on the website, based on Google Earth. Pin positions completely at random so I could see how the ball reacted.

LiDAR in good hands can make great courses, links courses especially benefit from LiDAR as you get every single hump and bump which is obviously the true character of the course. Castle Stuart is also a true favourite of mine so really looking forward to playing this
