I am writing this weeks intro a little bit earlier than usual, as you all know. Munster play Connacht tonight and like the rest of you, I shall be watching that. This week, we play Old Town Golf Club Lidar by sandsaver01. Why is he called sandsaver I head you ask, well because he likes to save sand, he always has ever since he was a kid. When his parents took him to the beach, he never went near the water, all he wanted to do was play in the sand and god forbid another child came anywhere near his sand, blood would be spilled. When it was time to go home, the tantrums were massive, the only way he could be gotten back into the car was if every available container was filled with sand and taken home with him. His parents decided that trips to the beach had to be banned, if he was no where near sand, maybe this need to horde might disappear, this he started kindergarten, in fact he finished kindergarten the very same day when he was expelled, the sand pit stand off will go down in history as the bloodiest, dirtiest sandpit siege in history. Homeschooling was the only options, and that went well, until Mike discovered golf but that is a story for another day. This week, we were supposed to be heading to Colombia but due to a slight misunderstand with a certain cartel, it was decided to move it to Winston-Salem instead. It has been about 15 years since I have been to Winston-Salem, I can't remember to much about the place, the dense smoke that surrounded the city made it hard to see anything. I did find it a bit unusual getting a free pack of Camels every time I ordered something at MacDonald's but we were in tobacco country. Camels and North Carolina though is not something you would normal associate with each other but there is a rather interesting story behind that. Hundreds of years ago when smoking was good for you, tobacco was one of the main crops in this part of America, all the farmers grew it, right next to their cotton fields. In fact the farmers became so busy they needed workers and soon started bringing in indentured general operatives from different parts of the world, including Jamaica. Unknown to the farmers, some of these operatives brought their own strain of tobacco with them called wackius tobaccious which they grow for their own personal use in hidden corners of the tobacco fields but some pesky local teenagers discovered these plots and with out asking permission, tried some of this wacky backy for themselves, little did they know at the time, that this would have dire consequences. The wacky backy had strange side effects of the teenagers including, feeling mellow, feeling love towards their fellow man, the losing of inhibitions, the need to play guitar and every now and then, a hallucination or two. One Saturday night as the teenagers passed the dutchie on the left hand side, a teenage girl by the name of Prudence Hope started having a conversation with camel that only she could see, the camel told her to chill out, to remove her clothing and dance around a bonfire, so she did, as she giggled and danced, the other teenagers thought, that this looked like fun and joined in. Why are we doing this they asked, the camel told me to replied Prudence and much fun was had by all. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to the teenagers, the local constabulary lead by Charles If-Christ-had- not-died-for- thee-thou-hadst- been-damned Egerrton were out on patrol and came across this scene of what to them looked like debauchery. With the arrival of the authority figures, the teenagers did what teenagers always do in situations like this, they found someone to blame, and that someone was Prudence. Prudence how ever blamed the camel, saying the camel made her do it. Charles If-Christ-had- not-died-for- thee-thou-hadst- been-damned Egerrton not seeing any camel or any other creature for that matter, came to the conclusion that it had to be witch craft, and that Prudence was a witch sent to bring sin, lust and desire to the local teenager populace. Seeing this as a way out, the teenagers agreed and Prudence was arrested and taken to jail to be tried as a witch. The next day as the news spread, some towns people decided that tobacco was the devils weed and so the very first anti smoking lobby was born. One local business man called Richard Joshua Reynolds though saw opportunity and wanting to capitalize on the hysteria called his latest tobacco product Camels in the hope that it might attract more young people to smoking. As for Prudence, well she was found guilty and hung as a witch, in fact it is said, that to this day, her ghost can be seen on Old Town Golf course leading a camel along the 18th fairway. That is the totally true and accurate reason why camels are associated with North Carolina. Good luck everyone, have fun, and as a bonus this weeks winner gets a life time supply of Camel cigarettes, while everyone who takes part gets a cartoon, with one lucky winner getting a cartoon with the wackius tobaccious strain.

Lol! Always fun to read these write-ups! It's a shame what happened whit the cartel, I was hoping to play a course in my country... Maybe next season, I'll try to design a course in Colombia for you to consider.

I did not have one iota of fun on this course. Infact I have completely wiped it from my memory banks as to never be able to re-live the horrors that happened there... Now, what course were we talking about again?

went -10 -4 -3 -5 for -22 total... liked the course but both here and tst I had sooooooo many burnt edges and lip-outs, could've been a really good week instead of a mediocre one 😂😂

Then had a sensational run of -8 on the front 9 in Rd4 to get to -20, then up and down like the Assyrian Empire to crawl back to the clubhouse. Crazy tricky greens. Cost me heaps of shots.

Red sloped fairways into red sloped greens while hitting red fasts and red slows. Red red red red red. It just wasn't my cup of tee. Reminded me of the old expert circus pins on the Tiger Woods games. Jus my humble opinion. I shot -5,-3,-5,-3 I believe for a -16. Rough outing.

Wow. This is by far the hardest course we’ve played on Kinetic in my opinion. Not unfair, just really hard. I couldn’t get an approach shot anywhere near the hole and every putt had a ton of break.
Only played 2 rounds and shot E and -3 which will surely get me a demo mark. This is the first time I’ve looked at the leaderboard and wondered how on earth anyone shot double digits under par in a round.

These were by far my worst two rounds on this game: +1 and +8... Besides the course, I was fighting with terrible swing plane. I'll get two demo marks for sure.

In all the years I have being doing this, I think Oregon Trail Golf Club was the toughest course I have used with a cut line of -3. I would be surprised to see it close to that though but you never know.

I should not be writing this right now, since I'm fairly pissed off at my first two rounds, and likely a little time to cool off would help. As it were, although I had a nice made-cut streak going at 4 events, if I miss the cut this week I will NOT play the second two rounds "just for fun."
This is not a knock on Sandsaver, as I realize this is an RCR, but there is so much I hated about this course. You're constantly fighting the camber of the slopes the entire round, both off the tee, and on the approach shots. So many of the pins are hard to even access because where you need to hit the approach to get it close just gets more and more severe with slope, there's really no "working the ball" into the hole locations on these greens.
Hole 6 for example, the par 3, is an absolutely terrible golf hole. No matter how short and/or left you hit it, the ball goes off the back right. Just stupid penal architecture. I could name more examples like that all through the course, but bottom line, if I don't make the cut I'll never play here again, sorry Mike.
I shot -3 and -3, with a ton of bogeys in each round, all from errors on these asinine greens. I doubt -6 makes the cut, but I wouldn't be surprised if it still finished inside the top 80.
Oh well, you can't enjoy them all I guess. I've had a great time on Kinetic this year so far, so if finally hating a course after 15 weeks is the average, I can handle that.

So now you know how I felt about last week's Kinetic course. One interesting side note; the USGA course rating and slope for Old Town are nowhere near being particularly high compared to tough courses IRL. Also based on the comments above I bet -6 makes the cut (I hope so Vic, so it forces you to play the last two rounds lol).

I had zero issues with the playability of last weeks course. However, the green speeds on this weeks course are borderline offensive. There's just no good reason for it to be playing at those speeds, as most of the pin locations are just awash in orange.

R1 -4 R2 -5
-9 at the cut. Thinking this might just squeeze by but there are so low rounds being shot so we'll see.
Thought it was tough and colourful but nothing too unreasonable... hopefully I get another 2 rounds to find out if I need to eat my words lol.
