My entry for the Dream Team competition. Initially inspired by Yangtze Dunes (but morphed into its own thing entirely). Chu Ko Nu Golf Club sits on the banks of the Yantze River and offers skyline views of Shanghai throughout. Special thanks to gdog for the pics

Absolutely loved this. Obviously the golf is top tier, but the extra things really brings the course to life. That clubhouse is excellent and about as spot on as you could do to pull off a Chinese look. Great stuff.

I actually couldn't work out how you did that Chinese clubhouse at the back of the 4th,9th,18th but that is so well done. The gardens, the clubhouse, the city etc really added to the atmosphere. The course was great as to be expected and I particularly enjoyed how open it was. Would be a perfect CC course imo. Congrats and good luck in the comp

Poured myself a glass of wine, sat down, was excited to finally play this one.
Birdied the first. Took a sip. Birdied the second. Took a sip. Birdies the third. Took a sip.
Told myself ok, every birdie gets you a drink of wine tonight. Thought oh boy I’m about to finish this glass on the front 9. Look at this course. Open. Not many centerlines. BIG inviting greens. Let’s get some drinks!
One single birdie the rest of the way. Over and over and over found myself getting tricked by the subtle strategy and looking back at each hole realizing my mistake. Your par 5s here are short but actually really well protected from overly aggressive players. All your greens really. Definitely one of the best at creating hazards around the green without actually using hazards. Great course Jason, please don’t let it actually be your last.

This course looks amazing. Very natural looking. I'll have it played by this morning and I'll give my thoughts.

Very understated course... subtle strategy and just a blast overall. The greens were extremely well thought out and sculpted... can't wait to be paired up with you on day 2 #RedTeam

Hey Energizer, I checked out your course and wanted to comment. I played it last night but didn't get to post the review today. I thought it was cool giving some background on the course, a location, the inspiration. Only takes a little time to give that info but it gives me way more inspiration to want to play it. Also, with the small amount of Asian RCR’s, this helps fill a geographical gap that 2K21 has with this continent of the world.
Hole Layout After a couple of easier holes, the way I usually like a golf course to start, you set up a visually enticing scene on 3 but also brought water into play so a fade was optimal. Because of the smart routing, I see the third was a sneak peek of the sea only for one hole before going inland to preview the rest of the holes that later play along that side. I think the shared fairway of the 4th was smart because I could choose the hazard I want to deal with-water by the correct fairway or jump on another hole’s fairway but then have an approach over a sand dune, or I could layup with a wood if I chose. 7 asks for two fades; off the tee and on approach to stay parallel with the fairway against the slope, default wind blowing towards the pond. Glad you allowed for the lower liner into the green – tried it with a 3-wood fade and couldn’t get it totally – it almost bounded into the water – I like a good scare. The central bunkers made sense in general like on 14. I loved the highly sculpted 17 par-3 green just when I thought that hole needed a certain something -tee shot framed by the 2 sets of buildings again. I missed both fairways on 18 LOL but it’s a great strategic hole. Shot a 69.
Highlights The 3rd hole was the first that gave me a view of the water and the city buildings simultaneously. The 6th hole brought the red trees into my eyeline while I was approaching the green. The 7th was where I took more time to notice the different styled bunkers, some with grass areas, some with tall grass surrounding, and some typical. The planting in general is good especially on 13. I liked the framing on the 8th tee – aiming in between the two sets of buildings and 9 coming back to the clubhouse beauty. By 11, I realized it was sharing a green with 2. I liked the routing both greens and fairways shared. The rocks and sand around the water by the 15 and 16 was a nice spot to relax before finishing up.
Amenities The amenities here are outstanding as well as the exteriors of the plot in general. You have so many great things going on besides the golf that put the course itself in contest, it makes the whole experience close to reality. I don’t see a putting green and I like to eat food outside but who cares when you put the city of Shanghai across the river, the little town neighboring the course, the entranceway, the pond separated from the sea by a single fairway, the beautiful Asian-inspired clubhouse. The flower areas and red trees surrounding the clubhouse is arranged elegantly. The work and thought put into it is phenomenal. Not only is it great in itself but because it’s so well-manicured and perfect looking, it makes the golf course look rugged like you intended due to the contrast of styles.
Experience What I can say? I got everything I wanted on a golf level and an aesthetics level and having the course situated near a city brings the level of realism up. It had a bit of an Asian look, I thought everything was top notch – especially the clubhouse. Another course I can take a lesson from, thank you for the experience.

Shameless bump and thought I'd finally say how great this course was and how much I enjoyed it. Fantastic set of greens, awesome environment and a perfect city skyline. Although the clubhouse was my favourite thing of all.

Is there a stat for burned edges?! I must’ve had a half dozen at least. And I don’t think there’s a straight putt anywhere on that course. Fun to play and loved the cityscape in the background. Great course
