Crikey this was good. These Dream Team courses have been next generation and this one was right up there with the very best of them. Such an immersive experience. Loved it dude.

My pick so far. Excellent course design, very well balanced plantings and environment, felt like one of the realest courses (no gimmicks, reasonable hazards) that I’ve played in some time. Subtle strategy throughout. The greens are a real test on every hole, no easy smack and go’s. Anyhow, really pleasurable round and hope you win, thanks!

Since I was in Australia playing Eucalypt National, I figured I’d try another course so Port Melbourne was next. I love looking at the logos and pics in the Dream Team brochure. When I arrived it was everything I was hoping for. Nice pitch for the course and amenities which I’ll get to.
Hole Layout
The course plays relatively easy at first. With a short par-4, a drivable par-4, 2 par-5’s and a 117 yard par-3 on the first 8 holes I was flying high with 7 birdies. The holes didn’t seem too easy except for #5. The 3rd and 8th hole had some teeth but it was me smiling the first half. I thought the greens were toughest and there was a good mix of doglegs left and right, the bunkering was solid – actually it was great along with the vast sandy areas-I definitely feel the sandbelt style.
The 10th was the first to seriously challenge the driver so I went with a wood. The wood gave me more chance of a better angle for approach than if I took the driver left of the fairway center bunker. 11 was also had more strategy in mind with the green’s swale. Who’s the big shot now I say to myself on 12, the first time the bunkering swallowed my ball in the round. Great bunker to challenge the 2nd shot of the par 5. I barely birdied it. So my 8 birdies in 9 holes tells me the first half played very easy and now I was in for some trouble. Great green graph for 13. I don’t mind 6 par-3’s but seeing 15 and 18 being only 163 & 181 yards, the yardages and lack of bite were similar to one another. Only the 3rd hole par-3 was a possible bogey. I think holes 10-13 had me thinking more than the rest of the course. The handicap is a 69 and I shot a 59 (I’m CC-B) but maybe you wanted it pretty easy and relaxing. Highlights
I couldn’t quite tell right away I was playing a sandbelt course until the 4th hole that plays alongside the beach. The bunkers were huge everywhere but every hole gave me something new. The 2nd hole had views of Melbourne buildings in the distance beyond the river, the 3rd hole I saw the ships out at sea, the 4th, I saw the beach and the bushiest bunker I’ve seen in quite some time. The 5th and 6th holes were fun gimme birdie holes, the 7th had the sunlight on the water distracting me in good way. Here and there, through the trees I’d get glances of the city across the river, and I kept looking like – wow he put a whole city there. It’s so convincing. Love the planting throughout – on 12 that look of green and purple bushes was a combo that works for me as well as the flowers sliding into the bunkers. There were benches on lots of holes – I have 3 Australian Dream Team courses to play so I needed some rest occasionally – my feet were barking.
Amenities
Once again I feel like I’m fancy and rich (gotta live vicariously through the game sometimes he he)– I get to stay in the mansion clubhouse, eat on wooden deck front porch area while I view one of a couple of fountains, and flowerbeds, visited the pro shop across the way, played some tennis, hit balls on the range and putting green. It even has an entrance way. There’s a concession tent with more seating, aw shucks no garbage cans LOL.
Experience
Stunning visuals, great look of the sandy areas and bunkering, fantastic amenities in the clubhouse area. The city was jaw dropping, the boats on the river in the hazy sun – picture perfect. I thought the greens were well sculpted and challenging though I do think the course needed some more danger and another long par-3. I really had trouble focusing on the golf because I kept stopping and daydreaming whether it was looking across the river, looking at the bunkering and excellent planting or seeing all the little touches around the course that made it feel real. Thank you for the experience, another course I will learn from. I’ll have to stop by again at some point.

Port Melbourne will be course #1 tonight streamed on Xbox alt+shot at 6pmEST. Not sure who will stream tonight but the links will be in the shout box and I will post the streamers here as well. I really enjoyed the first several holes when testing it. I knew early on this was going to be solid throughout and cannot wait to see it tonight.
