Through my first event, and that’s about all I can say about how I played.. had it -8 through 11 in R4 and couldn’t get anything to drop from that point and finished it at that. -32 total and on to next week.

Finished up this morning. A bit of the fasts in R3, but calmed that down eventually.
Definitely a precision course. Finished up with -9/-7/-5/-7 to go -28 for the week. Probably around the same-ish spot as last week, which is definitely fine by me.
Good luck to those with rounds left to finish.

-4, -4, -1, -3 for a -12 total. Lost interest after falling apart late in round two to miss the cut. See y’all next week.

Couple of short/simple bits of constructive feedback on this course from my perspective, if it's of interest...
1) It rarely felt like there was a "good" or "smart" option. To me, it felt like bashing driver, trying to hit some perfect approach was the best shot at a good score. I think I basically took the same lines off of each tee throughout the 4 rounds (mostly), regardless of where the pin was, which takes a lot of the strategy out of a very challenging course IMO. Maybe I've completely missed some of the options out there, but I just didn't feel like I could find a better angle into most of the pins - many of which had super harsh red slopes protecting them - even if it meant laying back a bit. Basically, the cost/benefit of laying back (when possible, which really wasn't that often anyway) for an "angle" wasn't even close to worth it vs bashing driver and having a wedge/short iron and hoping for the 1-in-100 approach.
2) This is not sarcasm, please believe me, because I'm actually curious - were these greens sculpted in a way that was supposed to minimize the ability to read putts with grids on as much as possible, within reason? I can't remember the last time I had so many putts that I just couldn't read...like, first line is crinkled, second convex, third is 2/3rds right to left with the last 3rd flat, then another bowed out line with peak 1/3rd to the right at the hole - so many putts with a path to the hole like that, even when I tried to play "smart" and not right at the pin. I pretty much gave up trying to read some of my putts by mid round4, because it really wasn't helping with the crazy gridlines I was seeing on just about every single putt. Micro-sculpting, I'm guessing? Like smallest (or close to it) brush size as possible raise/lower by multiple ft at a time method? Idk, but the thought crossed my mind "RJ knows what he's doing, wonder if he was trying to make them as unreadable as possible with grids on" (and not in a negative way tbh, kind of respected the risk in that idea ). Whatever was going on with the sculpting and many pin placements, they were certainly as difficult to figure out as any I can remember playing in recent times.
Should be noted, these aren't complaints. The course is what it is, a tough beast - which can now claim to be the home of my most hated single hole of 2020, that par5 can go straight to hell - but I did find myself coming back to these two things in particular throughout the grind. So take it for whatever it's worth, not trying to b%&, just throwing out my thoughts for discussion/feedback.
GL all left to finish, have fun, and well played to the guys at the top who continue to amaze me with scoring, especially on a setup like this one. Cheers.

FYI, this course was for the Major contest last year. I wanted to do a shorter course that was worthy of the test. Small greens with lots of runoffs felt like the only way to go. I get the hatred toward it. I hate it too, lol. I still think every hole is accessible with two great shots. In the end, it was meant to aggravate the best of the best, and judging from this thread, it did just that.

Well you definitely accomplished the frustrating part lol, but I definitely think that it was playable. I actually quite enjoyed the course, I just wish I could have been a little more precise on it in a few rounds. Definitely a second shot course that encouraged manipulating the ball flight/trajectory.

62/59/62/63 for a -30 in my first platinum tournament. Would've been happy with that score going in, but can't help but feel like I left some out there. Last two rounds felt as good as round 2, but just couldn't find the cup sometimes with a lot of burnt edges/ hit holes on medium length chips & putts. Seems like I'm not the only one feeling that way this week. Anyway, on to next week. Good luck everyone still to play.

Where do I land my approach shots? Seems like nowhere almost every hole. Playing speed golf at this point.

Finished the week -6, -7, -8, -9 for -30. Hopefully squeeze out a top 15. Throughout the week I honestly wish I had 9 putts back that all were absolutely makeable "easy" birdies including 3 for sure in round 4. Played the final round with Brodie and Bob and had a really fun back and forth with them throughout. (I play with turn order on).
After finishing up, I honestly enjoyed the challenge this week. I don't think this course was broken or anything as many are seemingly finding it. I found good spots to land my approach shots on each hole throughout the 4 rounds. When I missed a green I deserved it. Yes there were a few shots here and there that were heartbreaking such as landing a chip 2 inches too short only to watch it run back to me, but that was the challenge these greens presented. You had to be smart and precise. I'm sure it's much harder to try to hit a high 6 iron and stop it short than doing the same with a 8 or 9 iron but that is the price some guys had to pay for using easier to hit, shorter club sets.
*EDIT*
Just to elaborate, I think what I enjoyed the most was there were times where I had to play "defensive golf." There were holes and situations where I was like ok, lets get out with par here, don't make a mistake, rather than let me birdie every hole. There were times where I played safe and then was able to hit a long birdie putt. I was able to limit the big mistakes though. I also enjoyed that I felt the pressure over each great birdie opportunity. Standing over the putt I'm thinking, I HAVE to make this, cause I'm only gonna have 10-11 solid opportunities.
Too many times overaggression is not punished fairly, couldn't always be hyper aggressive this week.

I’m taking demotion marks this week. Rushed my two round to make the cut this week and was E as a result. Had an hour to play 2 rounds this morning. Hopefully I’ll be able to put the prep in next week and while I’m making wishes maybe Santa will bring me a PS5 on Friday and Kyle Trask will win the Heisman Trophy. Grateful I was able to see a lot of his games in person this year. I wish everyone an enjoyable holiday season and see y’all next week.
