Loved it mate. Those large waste areas must have taken you forever but they look so good. The planting throughout was as great as always. The test of golf was much stronger than your last couple of courses (which I enjoy more) even though I copped this on a couple of holes ..... Holes 7 through 9 were my favourite. Very well done on pulling out a brilliant course out of your comfort zone.

Hey Baby Bull – always enjoyable reading your forum comments and reviews – this is my first time playing one of your courses I think. I’d love to know where Cape Ari is located in the world. I don’t see a region or location anywhere in the background info. Looks like a dunes or links course near the sea.
Hole Layout The first two holes were standard easier holes the way I think they should be. I liked the 3rd hole, the first that brought a challenge after I got comfy on the first 2 holes-good sequencing. The triple-tiered green is smart and demanding. The 4th was almost a drivable par-4 but wasn't overly penal, maybe under-ly penal. I think the 5th is way better where the wide fairway is split into sections by areas of brush and bunkers. The split fairways on 8 and 10 were also well thought out – all different types of split fairways. The par-3 11th played well – a short hole with a green that tilts away from the tee. That was fun playing. The 13th hole was also enjoyable playing 40 feet uphill – it’s the fourth par-3 that’s under 170 so I’m glad it played longer than the yardage book. These greens have been well thought out and there’s another one waiting for me on 13. I liked playing 14 alongside the clubhouse right and sea left. The rocks looked great in the sun on that hole. And I was happy to see a normal tilted fairway with no internal bunkers, splits or narrowings on 15 since it had been a while. Great menacing bunker left of the green. Ahh 17 is a long par-3 – just what was needed. It’s almost 100 yards longer than the other 4 and I’m glad I’m getting this challenge – I like when 17 is a tough hole. Yeah, I admit it – I bogeyed he he. In fact, that’s indicative of the course itself. I birdied 5 of the first 6 holes but then they didn’t come so easy after that since the course seemed to challenge me more as I played. I thought this was a very strong area and it made the whole experience more entertaining because of the elevation, thoughtful fairways greens, bunker placements. I thought there could have been maybe 1 or 2 “normal” fairways as in – no internal bunkers, splits, or narrowings. Just 2 more where I could rip it so I could feel like a mighty hulk in my imagination. He he
Highlights First thing that caught my eye is how much planting was done and how real it all looked. I love how the rocks are kind sitting in the earth and brush – looks awesome. The 5th hole had a great fairway with brush and sand breaking it in 3. The 6th towards the sea had another split fairway that looked natural and the brush and rocks on this hole are remarkable. On top of that the 4-tiered green was a first for me to deal with and the bunker to the right is so crazy that it’s loveable. The 8th was beautifully scenic and the 12th had a fun drive, 50 feet down a chute that narrows. Fun seeing if the ball can stay on the fairway as it bounces. The 15th and 16th had great framing playing around the ridge in between. The rocks in the sun on those holes really stood out. I like that 17 played near another high rock ridge.
Amenities The basics. The best of it is the rock water sprinkler – very cool.
Experience Overall, I thought the course was well executed concerning its look and excellent mix of hole layouts. I thought on a lot of shots, every hole played great and were a lot of fun. The rock ridges and planting gave my eye something to see, there were a couple of visual standout holes like 6 and 12 that also played like standouts. The holes playing alongside the cliff gave me something different to look at peripherally besides the fine planting. My personal preference is some more eye candy stuff and knowing what region of the world I’m playing in even if it’s just narrowed down to what continent I’m on because it completes the full picture, and background. I can dress for cold or hot, I can set the wind for low or high, I can understand why the ground is so rocky. This is a links style course by the sea with rocks but I didn’t get a sense of where Cape Ari was in the world. Maybe a certain region with links or dunes courses inspired you? That’s just me though and it doesn’t have much to do with the golf – others will just play the course and have a great time like I did. Anyway, I hope to see this on the CC tour but if not, I’ll definitely be back. Thanks for the experience.

Bearforlife73 - Thanks Bear! williamwes626 - Wow, thanks for the in-depth feedback! I didn't really have a geographic location in mind when designing this one. I really just had the look of the course that was trying to achieve. I tend to design more fantasy style courses, and this is the closest I have gotten to "realistic". I'm slowly getting better at actually crafting my strategic approach to design thanks to videos by b101 - HERE and mattf27 - HERE . I appreciate the positive comments on planting as well, but some credit should go to all the talented designers in this community that I steal techniques from like crazycanuck1985, vctrylnsprts, Terry Grayson, Arctic Fury, Sindre, and a bunch of others that would make for an obnoxiously long list if I tried to fit all the names in. So basically, everything you see that is done right is thanks to the tutelage and support of the community, and everything that needs improved on are my own weaknesses. Thanks again for giving feedback, I will take it to heart during my next project.

You're very humble after succeeding so masterfully as an architect/designer - I still haven't finished a course yet but I watch the Ben and Andre videos, along with reading the forum a lot so I can learn. I'm newer to the game so this wealth of course options fascinates me whether RCR's or totally original and just to have a course designer is limitless -a thing EA Sports could never figure out or bother with. Everyone put so much thought and hard work into these that I think an extended review is the only way I can repay someone for what I learned playing their course so it was my pleasure.

I'm still learning new things from all of you guys.

One more thing - congrats on your high placement in Andre's top 20 courses this month! 8th is no mean feat given both the quality of the courses below it and it definitely proved a great match for the heavyweights above it. Cape Ari also made my top 20 list I worked on last night (for myself). It's a course I return to again and again, especially when I can't swing for a damn English buck...

Just to add to the praise of this course. I am 6 courses into my play though of all the Dream Team contestants and this is currently the highest rated. Scored well on look and feel and a delight to play, fair and nothing gimmicky.

williamwes626 - Appreciate it sir! mattf27 - I've tried to be very open about my taking of ideas from other designers, but try to make their appearance in my courses very understated. So, I feel guilty if people say they like my ideas without stating that most of them are "borrowed without payment"... or... stolen... cd06 - Making it so high on that list was a highlight of 2020 for me. I pumped about making your list as well. Thanks for the support! mpad - Awesome! I doubt I will hold on to the top spot on your list when you get further into the rest of the courses for the contest, but I'll cherish the temporary moment at the top! Thanks for dropping your feedback in this thread. It's always good to hear that people enjoy my courses.

Really enjoyed my round here. Excellent golf course, big step up in strategy from Conner Falls in my opinion. Everything is well done on this one. In the book I'm currently reading by Alister MacKenzie he talks about protecting the center line of the golf course and I think you pulled that off very well. The Greens are top notch and I like the deep greenside bunkers, very well done. The environment is excellent, pulled off the natural look which isn't easy to do. The undulations in the fairways fits the course. Definitely has a realistic feel to it. A fair and challenging test of golf. Congratulations on having this course host the upcoming promo event, very well deserved.

Looked lovely, had my best round in weeks at minus 6, even with missed pars on 6 & 15. Not a huge dunes fan, but this one had a really nice flow to it. Loved the last long par3, with just enough green slope to kill the 3-wood on landing and get it close
I played Pro, so that helped - but that's a good 8 strokes better than I've been shooting since Christmas, so thanks for the friendly confines this morning. Eagled 14, 1.39pph on 66% gir. Way to kick off a Saturday !

Avakrac - Thanks for always supporting my courses sir! To be honest, this course was the least fun for me to design of any of my courses so far. I'd rather design courses more on the fantasy side of the spectrum. That's why I am anticipating a lot of "it's no Cape Ari..." comments about my future releases. I do appreciate the video sir, and am always pleased to hear the kind words you have for my designs. Keep it Krac'n sir!
