Just set up the plot and did a test hole to bring back the Illinois Golf Club. This course was designed in 1923 by Tillinghast and was significantly altered in around 1940-41. It was the only original Tillinghast course in IL I believe. It later turned into Green Acres Country Club and was altered quite a bit more. Green Acres took on too much debt over the years with clubhouse renovations, paddle tennis, and very expensive changes to the golf course. The bank took it back in 2016 and it is now overgrown and waiting to be developed into housing. Based on the photos that I have, the original Tilly version was very cool. It's a flat site and limited in acreage, but the original shaping was very artistic and unlike anything else in the area. Here is my draft of the 18th hole. Nice illusion where the front right greenside bunker looks like it borders the green. You can't get a sense of it here, but this is a dogleg right and the tee shot is uphill. So you're hitting to a horizon and over the 2 fairway bunkers on the right.

Solid work! Love Tillinghast. Our local CC is his design and it's fantastic. This work looks solid!
The one thing golf games have always ignored (and I don't know how you would represent it in game) is the beautiful illusions that master architects use. Even in the day of exact yardage with GPS, a false front, hidden dip, or short bunker like this can really mess with your brain on an approach shot. Wouldn't it be great to have a golf game that would introduce those mind games and uncertainty into the play?

The best that you can probably do in a video game is to turn off the scout cam and have yardage ranges instead of exact yardage. If you're going on visuals only, a trap like this on short of the green might cause you more concern than it would if you used the scout cam and knew that there was a buffer zone there.
I always like to play with a decent amount of wind as well and try to judge everything by feel instead of doing calculations. That makes me want to steer clear of hazards in a similar way as if I'm playing real golf. But I'm not playing this game to compete at all, just trying to get the feel for real golf and experience courses that I may not be able to play otherwise- especially the courses that don't exist anymore. But also courses like Fisher's Island and others. Not being good at this game helps in that respect because I still find those courses challenging to play.

Absolutely. I too try and make the game feel like the "real" me is playing there, not the "pro" me. I shoot anywhere from 6-8 over to a couple under. Slightly better than real me. I don't have every assist off, but most. No scout cam would be a good thing to try. It's so tempting to use to see the beautiful views on these courses though!
