Just watching the masters and so glad to hear the voice of golf in the UK, the gentleman, Mr Peter Alliss.
The commentary was talking about the risk of not being pin point accurate in Augusta, miss the approach by 3 yards and you will end up with a 30 foot putt to the hole.
Peter said “well it’s the only defence they have left isn’t it, putting the flag in impossible places”
Makes you think......
Hope Peter looks after himself, I was overjoyed to hear him join the commentary team. 👍

Well, at Augusta for sure, not much property left to stretch things. IMO, either 13 or 15 needs to have its par changed to 4, or maybe both.
If it's 'par' hes talking about defending, I get the concept, but it's stroke counts compared to your opponents that matter in all formats but Stableford, so what's it matter ?

You're not a fan of half par holes? If that's the case, then they might as well change the 575yd 2nd hole to a par 4 as well. Scoring averages from 2020 Masters: 2 - 4.46 8 - 4.68 13 - 4.61 15 - 4.60 Par is irrelevant.

They just need to dial the ball back slightly or the COR on the driver faces. Sure, Bryson will still be the longest but there’s always been massive hitters, Nicklaus was lengthy in his time too but if we don’t dial it back a bit then we are going to lose the older courses on the tour, I for one don’t want to see that

I don't see what difference what you 'call' the hole par-wise makes in stroke or match competition, is all I'm saying.
It's fine as a measure for yourself against expectations, has no bearing on winning or losing a match. Only thing that matters is getting the ball in the hole in less strokes than the other guys, be it 20 under or 20 over.
When it results in wanting to alter a perfectly enjoyable golf course to match Bobby Jones' era "par" rather than just call it a Par 70 course, seems strange. I also don't see why we'd lose all the older courses, they present shotmaking & putting challenges still.
Finally, Dustin was only a couple shots better than the winning score from some 23 years ago, and only would have beaten the 1966 or 1976 winners by 3 shots, so this may be that kind of 'blip' that happens from time to time. Not that it will ever go back to 280 being a good winning score, but I don't see 270 getting challenged that often. Other than DJ, only Spieth has gotten there this century.

He sounded so elderly and frail on the Masters commentary but he still managed it and still had that air of fun about him.
One in a million.
RIP Mr Alliss.
