I don't understand how the scarring of the land works in highlands. I'm trying to get a much more rocky look via the scarring (think of a course like Old Faroe Dunes) but for me it just seems to be random. Some really steep edges won't have any scarring but some land on a flat slope will have it. Is there a trick to getting the land to scar more? Planting trees under the ground helps a bit but not much.

Planting trees under the ground helps a bit but not much. If you bury trees/bushes underground it will scar the ground where they are buried. Also, if you make the trees/bushes larger before burying them, it will scar the ground more drastically.

Also make sure you don’t have heavy rough painted on it.
Highlands not great for it, maybe try autumn and create your own mountains or delta?
