I also feel like the game has been a grind and not so enjoyable recently. I really enjoyed the challenge when it first came out, but lately I am too busy to play much and I think the timing of the mechanics are sensitive enough that, if I am not playing a couple rounds a day, I don't have the muscle memory to be consistent with my swing. It was never the case with the older games where I could take a week off and play 18 holes of warm up and basically pick right up. If I take off playing a couple days during the work week, which I need to these days due to life commitments, I need like 4 or 5 rounds until I feel comfortable swinging again which is like all I have time for on the weekends. So I start my tour rounds when I'm not ready and half the time I get interrupted by a crying baby anyway and would rather just quit but finish my rounds out of a sense of obligation because I started and skimmed by the cut line. Anyway since others were sharing similar thoughts I wanted to share mine, but won't complain further

Played my ceremonious two filler rounds and finished -4 and -1 for another MC. Just couldn't get going.
I share similar sentiments that the joy of playing has been sucked dry. Day-in-day-out work is required to maintain your game, and when that work isn't compelling or 'fun,' then it's just a matter of time.
Carving time for practice and tour rounds was a priority in previous versions. Not this one, but not sure why. There's a general feeling of discomfort before pulling back the stick. A weird defensiveness against losing control of your golf ball.

I will probably miss the cut by one but if I make it I shot 63-77 on the weekend. Really struggling for my tempo and yanking everything left and have no touch for splash shots. Not playing kills all of that feel.

I'm holding on by thread with my interest in this game- 1. having come to the realization that making Platinum and an occasional Top 30 is as good as it's ever going to get. this is from the mindset from someone who turned themselves from a 210# 4:45 marathon runner into a 165# 2:45 marathon runner over 7 years... there's no amount of work I can do here to get myself to the next tier in this game.
2. the constant threat of the API over my shoulder. if my swing goes sideways for a few holes- the API gets in my head, I get worried I'll get pulled and then I try to compensate, and compound matters. Similar to a College tournament I played in- my playing partner (from Villanova) inquired about a "figure 8 in my back swing" on the second hole... i lost focus and played like sh|t that day, and it took me weeks to get that out of my head. Not knowing what triggers API is a constant mind fk.
3. this new swing mechanic seems to have a lot of randomness built into the code... I've gotten to the point where I dont really feel like I'm in control of my shot anymore.
I used to just go back into the Designer cave when I reached this point, but now- everyone and their mother are turning out courses- and a fair amount of them are damn good.
this all feels like that bolt in a coke can experiment we did while I was on an Air Craft Carrier back in the day...

I would not worry about the API. Those that get pulled are almost always doing something they know will cause them to get pulled. If that’s not you, then likely you have a 1/100 chance. Maybe less.

Maybe less. except that i did get pulled at the end of last season. I was told that 70 of 74 full shots were right of the Y axis. My natural shot was in the cone and at the very end would deviate about 1 or 2* to the right edge of the cone. I was just trying to keep my swing in the cone but was told the cone is insignificant and it's the amount of times you miss one side or the other on the Y axis. so now if I push a couple of shots (and up 30' feet right of the hole)- red alarms start going off.

The push/pull part of the API was removed for this season - so getting your line too far off line is not an issue......just swinging unnaturally straight......

Somehow I made the cut on the number. Can we all just laugh on my miraculous birdie save that got me inside the line on hole 17 in R2?
I do apologize in advance, some may find the tempo offensive:

This is an underrated amazing post. Just wanted to highlight it incase anyone misses it. Ps I agree with those commenting on “fun” factor and have thoughts, not no time to type them now - nor does it really matter. But interesting to see others spontaneously saying things about it that I’ve been thinking. Some of us have been at this for years - doesn't take much to take fun out of it and make it a grind. And when we do have fun, it doesn't fill the tanks completely full again. Couple that with the fact that this tour has ... we'll let's just be honest here - it has one exceptionally good golfer that has figured out the game and has the right system and controller all in one magical package. So if he tees it up there's only a handful that can challenge him for a win. For the other 95% it's just a battle for PB's. I always said that lower/more realistic scores can be fun as long as everyone feels they have a shot - this it the one tour where that isn't true so between the vets getting burnout and others finishing 30 shots behind the leader every week, it's a tough grind. Can only hope the PS5 doesn't keep same polling rate...what is this, 1995??? Let's go sony!
