Week 3 done and dusted. With the season taking good shape and in full swing, it is nice to see that scores and play is generally improving amongst all. Tempo issues remain and the 2K quirks are still present but from a personal note, The Brew Crew are flying high. Still and always a pleasure.
Now let’s begin, Ball Whackers found themselves up in the clouds in second place after week 2 and had the joy of entertaining Mark’s Cider Casuals who find themselves still undefeated after a fascinating encounter last week which ended in stalemate.
Slow start from both teams on day 1 provided little for the spectators but a solid team effort gave the Whackers the lead. Confidence remained during day 2 which again saw the Whackers take all the points but nothing can be taken away from the Casuals who were only a few shots away from making it a completely different story.
Bombers were pack in action this week looking to gain back the momentum they had in the opening week. This week they were up against Pabst Green Ribbon who have quietly but consistently been finding their feet within the Brew Crew hierarchy.
Sean and Kie couldn’t do enough to get past Eric and Lucas, losing by a couple of shots. Reversal of results however saw Thomas and Dominique having the upperhand over Ken and Johnny in a high or low scoring affair depending how you look at it. All square going into Day 2, nothing could separate the opening match up, but Pabst took the slender lead with a valiant effort from both Lucas and Johnny.
As You Brew are another team looking to maintain their unbeaten record but come up against the Rum Raiders. Already so early on in the season, the Raiders have cemented their place at the top, with a beat us if you can mentality.
Sadly for Ross and his merry old gang, Raiders were in force again. Day 1, whitewash, Day 2, further destruction. Day 3, a little bit of sympathy kicked in to allow Ross and Les to take the only win in the pairs matchups for As You Brew.
The Crown Royals and the Cupid Stunts face off with both looking for their first win. The tension could be felt within the air with such high stakes and a conservative approach from both was seen. Point each on day one and again all square after day 2 , sets this up for a nail biting showdown on the final days.
Final matchup for the week, sees bottom crawlers Martoonies against the Bourbon Bandits who have made a positive start to their season.
Randy and Ernie made a positive start for the Martoonies with a convincing win over Chris and Mike but this was quickly pegged back by Marc and Mark with an even more convincing win over Carol and Paul. Carol was not deterred though, a way with words, whipped her boys back into shape ready for day 2. Match a piece was the end result, but it puts them nicely in the driving seat for that potential first win.
HALFTIME SHOW
Welcome back, Leon and Darren fought hard to secure the win on day 3 for the Whackers. The valuable points ensured at least a draw at the end of the week. Consolation or a start of a fightback? Paul and Mark were able to put the first points on the board for the Casuals and would be looking to take that momentum into the final day. Things were starting to look up as in an unusual tale Konsta was able to take his first points for the week. Everything came crashing back down though as the Whackers were able to seal the win with a damming conclusion to the week winning the remaining three single matchups.
Day 3 for the Bombers and Pabst saw 2 convincing wins for both teams which meant Eric and his troops still had the slender lead. Captains went head to head but Sean was able to just walk away with a shock 1 up win over Eric. Same result of 1 up saw Lucas just pipping Kie. Ken had a more convincing win over Thomas which was enough to bring home the Bacon. Consolation win for Dom at the end but a close match all week ended with Pabst holding on to the slender lead they earnt on day 2.
Raiders continued to hold their strong stance going into day 3, much the same as the Whackers and Casuals match up, were able to secure at least a draw by the end of the pair rounds. Further similarities continued as Raiders walked away from the final day with 3 wins out of 4. Only Captain Ross from As you Brew being able to claim back a little consolation. Ross will be keen to pick his side up with a little Aussie encouragement while Raiders will look to stride on with their winning streak.
There was still nothing that could separate the Royals and the Stunts on day 3. Mark and Peter took the points for the Stunts while Tim and David again drew the overall score. A win for either was only going to be found on singles day. Mark again brought advantage for the Stunts, but this was as far as their story went. Convincing wins for David, Tim and Bill, resulted in the Royals taking their first win of the season.
All level after day 2 Martoonies looked in good shape. Mark and Chris were able to squeak the Bandits in front but Captain's spirit again for the Martoonies from Carol and Ernie, again meant this was a tie that was going down to the final day.
Carol ran out of magic dust in her singles match up but was able to spur the remaining of the team to victory. A win for the Martoonies opens the league right up, no one will be walking away with the wooden spoon this season.
