Sculpting is done, so now I'm on to planting. Really working a wild feel for this course, with some exposed rock formations scattered throughout to tie in the hilly landscape. Here are a couple of shots of 6 approach and 7 tee that I'm very happy with. Need to finish out the area around the small lake and beyond the green, but I'm definitely feeling better about the planting than I was a few weeks ago. Hoping to put in a lot of work this weekend.
I do need to tie the two creek sections together still and there's a massive open area that I need to figure out what it will be.

After somehow getting the file size to 98% I had to delete A LOT of my grass and try some other tactics. Turning auto-gen grass up to max helped a lot, and now I am getting much closer to being done. I have also been playing with lighting and am leaning towards a darker, greyer feel. Shooting for the 20th to publish. Here are a few update screenshots:
Over the first green, with the 15th, 2nd, and 8th in view.
My absolute favorite corner of the course, the 6th green. I burned a chunk of the object meter to get this to look right, but it was definitely worth it.

Are you using splines to plant grasses?

No, I've been doing copy and paste and then single planting some areas

I did enjoy this and learned a lot. Here are a few of my biggest lessons learned: - Plan! Have an idea of what I want to do with the course before breaking ground. This left me with some awkward sculpting and routing issues
- Plant early, plant often. I think this ties into the first one, planting earlier would have given me much more guidance on where I was at with the course. It looks a lot different once there are some trees around.
- Don't be afraid of change. I made major changes to holes 3, 9, 17, and 18 in the last two weeks. I was never happy with the hole design on any of these. They all felt very awkward. Now I have holes that work! Wish I had done it sooner.
Now it's time for a short break for the holidays then a new project. Going to be researching inspiration between now and then.
Best of luck to everyone!

Heading out to your course now to give it a playthrough. Congrats on publishing and I'll follow-up with my thoughts when I finish my round.

I really enjoyed my round and it was nice to again not feel like I was being blugeoned by wicked tight fairways and crazy greens! :-)
Stretch of holes 8-12 and 17 were particularly notable.
Generous fairways and large, but fair greens are found throughout.
This isn't a course that will overwhelm you, but that's what makes it fun.
Sure, you can dial up the wind and green speeds, but this is just a fun round of golf on a logger golf course.
Love the areas of cut trees throughout and the planting is done with great restraint, where the temptation might be to fill the plant meter. That's not what one would expect on this type of area and you did great to show that.
My only "gripe" and it's not, is that I didn't love the bright green color of the greens.
All in all though a great course and one that would be a great society tournament course!
Well done!

Yeah it's definitely a course that isn't going to chew you up and spit you out but dialing up wind and green speed will make it tough for sure. Funny you say that about the plant meter, it's actually at 99.9% due to the grass that I put everywhere to fill it in. I wanted it to feel natural and wild and hopefully that came across.
Fair enough on the green color. That and the weather were things that I never really was happy with.
I don't think I'll challenge a few of the other courses in this contest, but that wasn't really my objective. I learned a lot and got a course published and out there.
