Yeah, you read the title right. Through about 1.5 hours of trial and error, and a little dumb luck, I was able to locate the files I needed for Winged Foot, out of hundreds of files!
If you hadn't seen my post in my CLV port thread, this lidar data is for 2009, and the course was renovated somewhere in the 2016-18 range. I will have the up to date OSM spline data, so it will be a matter of doing some manual elevation work on the bunkers and new edges around the greens, but that's a hell of a lot better than having to elevate the entire course by hand.
For now here's one raw pic from the imported course in TGC19.

Yes! this makes me excited!
Was going to message you as well to see if we can expect a certain LiDAR course in Georgia in time for November?

I would love to see both Winged Foot West and Winged Foot East done since they are next door to each other.

The lidar data for the greens isn't great, so I'm having to do some sleuthing to figure out the slopes as best as possible. For the 1st green there is a lot of great drone footage and photos available, plus I was able to watch shots and putts to each pin from the USGA site, so I feel pretty good about this green so far.
Just digging into the 2nd hole and green. Thought I would add the greenside tree, and this one looked pretty close.

Most of the issues we're having here are related to how surfacing and sculpting line up - or more so how they don't. Most of the green pads - that is the pushed-up earth that the greens sit on - are pre-Hanse dimensions. In other words, the green surface spills over the edge of the green pads, creating awkward and severe runoffs that have never existed at WF. We have to go back and manually reshape the edges of the greens.
As for bunkers, most were moved a few paces, creating some very strange sculpting issues where bunker surfaces spill over their old lips. Bunkers on West aren't nearly as difficult as they are proving to be on East though, where the club clearly did much more tinkering pre-Hanse. There are many bunkers that Hanse removed where the LiDAR picked up the old sculpting.
And the most important part: green contours. Many greens have been drastically oversimplified by LiDAR - most notably 1 West, 13 West, and 17 East. Others swung in the other direction: the contours on 15 West are much larger than they should be. There's a lot of work ahead, but luckily WF requires little planting so we can go full tilt on these greens. Craig did 1 absolutely perfectly, so only 35 left to go.

Progress looks great so far just wanted to add if you're looking for some help with the greens, The Fried Egg put up a hole by hole tour of the course on their instagram and have some really good shots of the greens that may be able to help as well.

Hey y'all, tpetro is helping out, since he has experience playing both courses, the lucky bastard! He will be especially helpful with the East course.

Yeah Andy from the Fried Egg actually offered to send me the entire album of pictures he has, and then went radio silent, lol. In my previous dealings with him, this is par for the course. We'll see if I get them, but the Instagram photos have been helpful so far.
