Hard is better. Drop the ball before the green for it to hold the greens, that's what I want None of this throw it at the pin stuff.

BT - think we have been around this before , but I think you are generalizing the reasons too much and that you are wrong.
- in the beginning one of the visions of this project was to see realistic scoring. Team is just working towards that vision.
- Many players in the top ranks competing for titles are tired of being out of contention after lipping out a couple birdie putts and want a more varied game. Score compression is a real issue.
- one of the key arguments us that it brings strategy back into the game - not only execution as is the case on the easier courses.
Then - I also don't think firm and fast is the only solution. There are more ways to make courses challenging. I don't think we want "cookie cutter" difficult either. Would not mind having the occasional softer course with pins set in hard locations but a bit more receptive to lower scores as well.
You are right that the current best players will be at the top regardless - thinking otherwise is delusional.
Key for me is for the game to feel as realistic as possible - and playing Bison, Fire Rock and new Shakespeare does feel like being on a championship track.
As for flops they don't spin back in real life on normal competition set ups usually, so why should they in game? Short game actually feels more realistic without the three yard super zip from a downhill green side flop. Same goes for sometimes having to bounce it up and having to execute perfectly on the intended lines to have a look at birdie on some holes.
Many of the "unrealistic" arguments pointing to the real world on here are from the "design for the average golfer" resort builder handbook. Championship tees on proper competition courses are different beasts and play more like these courses.
Like it or not is subjective - and no right or wrong here. We are on different sides of the scale. But we have not even finished the first week of this new initiative yet after a stretch of birdiefests. Give it a couple of weeks before dismissing it. You might find that it grows on you...
