36 cards turned in..
17 people under par.
19 @ par or worse.
Cut Line might be even par this week. Thinking we also see a record # of WD's as people wont be turning in cards with High scores.
Thoughts ??

hinking we also see a record # of WD's as people wont be turning in cards with High scores. Thoughts ?? I hope that's not the case. Not every course we select is meant to be easy. Don't bail! Play your rounds!

In what way??, I'm beginning to think you're a bit of a sadist Scott Seriously, there are some pretty good scores starting to get posted out there, with lots of good shooters to come. Heck, i was even happy with the scores i managed......Good luck to all.....Cheers

No fun shooting 68 if everyone else is shooting 57. As long as it's a challenge for the entire field, I have no issues with people shooting close to par - it's really what we're trying to strive for in theory.

I love courses like this. I like to feel excited when I make a bird or eagle instead of feeling relieved that I didn't screw up and get a par.

I know I'll catch hell for this, but simply put, this course sucks. Its not the whole course per se, mostly just the greens. I practiced the course for about a week, and managed most of the time par or slightly over. The fairways were pretty narrow as well, so there was little room for mistakes. But those crowned greens aren't even realistic. Now add in 9 - 14 mph winds and a difficult course becomes downright nasty. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this, but others probably are being nice and not saying anything. I think I hit a 75 and a 77, in my 2 rounds. I haven't posted yet myself, but I will, but I won't be playing the last 2 rounds. I love a good challenging course, but this one isn't a challenge, its just a pain in the .... , well fill in the blanks. Congrats to the low scorers here, you'll have a place on the PGA tour soon I'm sure. BTW I notice this course isn't even rated, so how did it manage to make it into any tournament ?

I love the result that is being strived for here this week. A winning score of -10 to -20 would be great each and every week. This course was different for me because one it was too shaded for me. I don't like heavily shaded courses. I shot 67 in the first round and 75 the second round due to one hole that I made a 9 on! Thats golf!! My most enjoyable week was on another tour that we played Magnolia National and I shot even par for the tournament and loved every minute!
The biggest problem that we face is not Shawnee Creek or some other tough course. It is the 'wind waiters' that are destroying the game for most. My 2 cents.

I actually am looking forward to Shawnee this week. That said, I also agree the sloping on the greens (crowning) is a little unfair. The tightness is good, the small greens are fine, but the bowl effect is annoying. However it is definately fair for all. That being said, it is sad that we have to revert to such trickery to get decent realistic scores...

I think whats really sad is this course even made it into a tournament at all. Except for the greens its a nice course all around. I'd say I actually managed to hit the grrens even with the winds, only to have to pitch back onto the green after the ball rolled off. That doesn't even count the 2 balls I shot straight into the water on one hole, and thats after I underclubbed and lofted the shot more. Then on top of that pitch onto the green only to watch it slowly roll off the other side. Good designer, bad greens.

I agree that wind conditions create unfair advantages when they are not the same for everyone. Hopefully HB can give us a fix for that soon. I personally don't wind wait per se, but if I start a round and the wind is in double digits I may only play that 1 round. Normally I will play my 4 rounds at once if am hitting them straight.

I played all four rounds in reasonably high winds and did ok, not as good as some but I liked the idea of thinking my way around the course

Thoughts ?? I think it's great. No offense Doyley/Tim, but the severe crowning on the greens were a joke and not realistic. There were a number of times I hit a shot within a few feet of the pin, only to watch it slowly trickle down the crown to the other side of the green or off of it. Courses where good shots are penalized are simply not enjoyable. I like scores closer to par more than most people, but if this is the type of course it takes to get them, I have a feeling you're going to start losing people.

I'm sorry you did not enjoy this weeks course but to it's defense a different mindset is needed for courses like this. I don't remember intentionally aiming within 10 feet of any pin on this course. On a couple of holes I was actually trying to land the ball in the rough in front of the green. I'm not saying playing courses like this is the best solution to keep scores more realistic but I also think that this course forces you to make tough decisions. For me it was about playing my drives and approaches in a spot that if it wasn't a perfect swing or calculation of yardage I would still have a decent chance for par. Once I bought into this line of thinking (by the 4th round) I shot my best round of the tournament.
