Hi
I have played TGC from the beginning and early on I contacted HB about this very issue. The game in general is amazing. Having grown up playing golf games on the early Atari consoles, the features and capabilities of this simulation are phenomenal and the feeling of coming up the 18th to a packed amphitheatre is incredible for a completely virtual experience. However, the one things that always stands out for me is the lack of other golfers on the course. Where is everyone?!... when I play real golf, I’m standing by the clubhouse, and waiting for my tee time, but glancing across I see the two-ball finishing up on the 18th and the elderly four-ball heading away up the first. Then, arriving at the 7th green, waiting whilst they drive off at the 11th. Also ignoring everyone else on the course, what about my match - resting on my putter as I watch my partner trembling over his five footer, or one our opponents floundering in the pot bunker. This is what creates course atmosphere. Also, I can now be up against the best players in the world heading to the island hole at Sawgrass... where is my caddy? And I’ve just finished putting ... I’m handing my putter to err... no one.
Like I say - I’m blown away by the complexity and detail of the course designer and amazed at the current crop of top designers. I watch intently as b101 and Crazycanuck1985 take me through their latest YouTube tutorials - these courses are real in my mind and in theirs... but where is everyone?
The answer from HB initially was the complexities of animating independently and having live players on the course was too complex - hence we got the ghost balls etc. But now, even just in the post and pre shot animations, can we not see our competitors, our caddies, or our team mates? Would be the icing on the already very delicious and satisfying cake!
Love to hear your thoughts? Or whether this has been discussed to death and dismissed long ago...
