Mice with physical balls and that aren't optical tend to average around a 400-600 DPI so they offer a very nice advantage to swing straight without the chance that their swing will be enhanced by software straightening. DPI @ 400 to 600 can easily fail the Fair Play screen, I should know.

DPI @ 400 to 600 can easily fail the Fair Play screen, I should know. The difference of an optical mouse at 400-600 and a physical ball mouse at 400-600 is pretty extreme. The software that allows 400-600DPI does so by limiting the register points within an inch. A phsycal ball mouse doesn't have the limitation and so a line with an optical mouse at low DPI will be fairly consistent and straight as an arrow, the ball mouse will be slightly wavy. In the end the API would have a more difficult time dinging a ball mouse than an optical.
The thing is, hardly anyone uses them anymore, so it has never been an issue. I did testing with a ball mouse I had that looped around the finger and the thumb accessed the ball. I used to use it playing poker years and years ago. It passed in tgc 2 and 2019. I just wasn't accurate enough with it.

Yeah I tried the tracball for hitting the ball and without any lengthy practice sessions I stink at using it for golf as we do need that "straight" line. All other games don't limit your mouse movement so I can move pretty fast in all directions with the tracball.

I guess it depends on the tracball as well. I know a lot of them are ones with the ball on the side so you use it with your thumb. But the Kennsington is more like the ones we saw in those Golden Tee machines, albeit smaller. I really do get a pretty straight swing with it, but tempo can be all over if I don't find a nice rhythm with it.

Welp folks, I'm not sure what to say. Since the last patch of over a month ago, when HB did something to help framerate but insists they did nothing to effect the tempo or the swing, I haven't been able to control my tempo in a round. Prior to that patch I was playing quite well. I barely missed the Platinum tour by a stroke. I felt confident in my swing and was playing well. After the patch, I can't find a swing with any consistency and it has been extremely frustrating.
You know how it is, you go to hit a perfect tempo and you end up with a slightly Fast or Slow tempo. That is okay because you normally can feel that you went just a little fast or slow. You feel what you did and understand the result. Now I'll play for a fast and I'll get a Very Slow Tempo or play for a perfect and get a Very Fast result. It is baffling. Prior to the patch I could count the number of Very fasts I had in a four round tournament on one or two fingers, and I never would get a very slow. Now I'm having to use more than one hand in a single round.
I'm not looking for suggestions or anything because I have literally tried everything I can think of. I think in the end it is just the reality of where the game is. Fixing one thing broke another for me, and I'm in a very small minority who are effected and HB isn't going to correct it for us.
So in the end I'll keep trying to figure this tempo thing out, but at this point I'm at 4 strikes and am not having any fun. It feels like work to play a tourney round. If it continues to feel that way, I'll just sit out for the year as I won't play a game that isn't fun. I don't mind challenges but this is beyond that.
Anyway, I hope you all are having better results than I am. Good luck all.

Ron, I completely feel your pain. It's pretty clear it's a waste of time to hope for anything to change at this point. So, I've given up.
The problem is amplified considerably on Master swing ... in fact, it looks like everything is amplified for mouse on Master swing. The amount of "punishment" for a slightly off-perfect swing seems to be greater than what controller users face. We couldn't "play the fast" even if we wanted to.
I will say that Pro swing (eg. Beer League settings - no aids/meters) is just fine. It's still pretty easy to make a mistake, but as you said, when it happens you are fully aware that YOU made the mistake. On Master, it still feels completely random (and often the complete opposite of what you'd expect).
I actually decided a few days ago that I'm just done trying and/or caring. I handed in my Platinum tour card and have moved down to the Beer League where I can simply enjoy playing the game again, but it's still both sad and infuriating to give up on a year of hard work moving up in the WGR.

I too seem to still have no feel after all this time. If I swing hard, then it's slow, and if I try to slow it down, it's a fast. If I get into a rhythm I can have a good stretch, but it really seems dependent on not thinking about the tempo and just hitting it. Almost a zen type thing.
I took last weeks tour off to see if I still like playing, and the answer is I'm not sure. I enjoy playing the courses and see how I stack up, but too often the swing seems too random and that's never fun.

I dont play with mouse but this is my experience 2 fasts are slows and vice versa makes no sense dont have these issues on pro difficulty

Here are my 2 cents : I think now I got the right feeling of the mouse. My swings are as always little erratic but, in master mode, I do not go often in the red zones and if I do, most of the time I feel why.
It's hard to compensate and often a very slow comes after a very fast but it seems to me that I have some little control on thing. I begin to play around par in master mode and I do not ask for much more. This said, all the others will improve and I will slowly go down the leader-boards but that's no matter.

I tried turning vsync off and my computer sounded like it was flying away. My fans have never run this fast and loud before!

I tried turning vsync off and my computer sounded like it was flying away. My fans have never run this fast and loud before! How odd. What type of GPU are you running? There shouldn't be a temp increase of that much when you turn if off. If you have a temperature monitoring program it would be interesting if it is actually responding to a temperature increase or not.

after using a mouse for multiple months now I have to say that tempo is no longer an issue for me, htting nearly 95% of my shots perfect now. On the other hand, my swing plane is never perfect and I have to adjust for the fact that I tend to slightly push-draw all my swings. I'm pretty certain you can compete with mouse more than in previous games but until I get more consistent at dealing with wind and better at reading putts, I wont be certain as I am just a CC player slowly climbing up the ranks.
Who currently are the best mouse players in this game? I know there are a couple of mouse players in plat....

Who currently are the best mouse players in this game? I know there are a couple of mouse players in plat.... It would be interesting indeed to have an additional filter on the leaderboard that filters PC players by input device. I for one am a mouse player in Platinum, but I can only confirm that I am the best Luxembourgish player in this game. YouStayClassySanDiego has started in Plat, but he seems to be in Elite right now. Which are the mouse players in Plat that you know? Cheers, Kevin
