OK, so here's how it's going to go down. We have one judge finalizing his round 1 scores and we'll be immediately working to finalize our first round cuts once he has finished. We will be narrowing the field from 54 to 27 in our first round of cuts. We have a judging panel of six members. In round 1, each course was assigned two judges. Judging order was predetermined prior to the publish window opening and each course was assigned judges based on when they submitted (First course got judges A & B, second C & D, third E & F, etc.). There were 15 unique judging combinations used. We were all tasked with grading the courses using the TGCT Contest Rubric, in which we assigned score of 1-5 (5 being best) in the categories of: Playbility & Shot Values, Technical Execution, Aesthetics & Environment, Flow & Cohesion and Overall Considerations. Additionally, we assigned each course a holistic score on a 0-50 scale. These scores were averaged to get calculate a judge's overall score for a particular course. Since not every judge will play every course in Rounds 1 and 2, a Z-score has been used to determine rankings. Basically, the Z-score compares the score a particular judge gave your course compared to all the other courses he scored. The higher the Z-score, the better the judge found your course to be (above average > 0, below average < 0). We do this because how judges score on the rubric is different. For example, we had a judge whose overall R1 scores averaged to 38.799 and another whose scores averaged to 26.535. In that context, a 30 from the first judge would have been below average whereas a 30 from the other judge would have been above average. The top 24 courses, based on their Z-scores, will advance to Round 2. As an added layer of checks and balances, we are giving the judging panel the option to include up to three courses not in the top 24 to add to the list, to give us the 27 semifinalists (If more than three courses are nominated, there will be a runoff vote by the judges of the nominees to get to three. If fewer than three courses are nominated by the judges, the nominated course(s) and the next best course(s) not already in the semifinals, based on Z-score, will advance until we reach our cap of 27). With all of that, you will see the ribbons in the table above. Here's what you need to know: Finalists -- TBA approx. 7/31. These will be the courses (somewhere between 8-12) that will be considered for the overall championship following our second round of judging. Semifinals -- The top 27, based on the above criteria. Honorable Mention -- Courses that did not make the cut but meet at least one of the three following criteria: 1) A Z-score among the top 36 overall. 2) An overall average score of 30.0 or greater. 3) A nomination by one member of the judging panel to advance to the semifinals (assuming more than three courses are nominated). Participant -- All remaining courses.
Good luck, gentlemen. I will advise when we have this list finalized.

Finalists will be announced tomorrow (8/2) at 10:55 AM ET in this thread. The top eight courses, based on their cumulative Z-score through the first two rounds, advanced to the finals. Additionally, each judge nominated a course outside of the top eight to send on. The majority of judges needed to vote for one of these nominees to send a nominated course to the finals. As a result of the round 2 scores, and the subsequent vote, there will be 11 finalists that will be announced.
From here, we will have a final round of discussions and voting in which we will determine the first, second and third-place winners. The date of the results show is TBD, but will likely take place before Aug. 15.
