May as well chime in pre cut... Alongside the 30 that have either been banned from majors (or banned altogether), eloped to BCT or both, we have 7 wounded soldiers this week. 3 first timers, 2 which I am very surprised about. Our Euro hopefuls from last week are bang in form and it's 2 in 2 for them both, plus one other makes it to 2 in his 8 starts since his return from Euro. Finally, one more to be off the start sheet for the remaining Majors as Gary Simmonett reaches 3

I'm really torn whether or not to even play my second round. I certainly wasn't doing great in the first round, but I was sitting at -5 going in to the 18th hole. Hit my final drive of the round and it landed about 5 feet off the fairway ... and I get an OB ... who the @#%$ puts the OB line so close to the fairway?! Either way, it irked me so bad I ended up with a quadruple bogey and just couldn't give a single extra @#$* at this point. St Andrews 17th and Hoylake no.1 have OB boundaries just like you described. 18 at Ainsdale is a combination of both of those holes.

Ya, and certainly it's my fault for not looking at the map view ... but it's just not something you expect to see in a wide-open links course. St. Andrews 17th is one that is a bit more obvious/intuitive, considering it has a fence (not to mention the hotel just inches from the course).

St. Andrews 17th is one that is a bit more obvious/intuitive, considering it has a fence (not to mention the hotel just inches from the course). Portrushโs first hole is another example. In this case with 18, you have the practice area just to the left and the OB is marked clearly with the posts right back to the tee to ensure you donโt need to hit the overhead. As Joe says with 17 at the Old course, hugging the OB is an integral part of the strategy here. As an aside, itโs not the only instance of OB here - although it is the most dangerous - and there are hints to make you consider it earlier on. I also made sure to do it left of 12 tee shot earlier (where it doesnโt matter) as a bit of a visual clue to make you aware of OB and all down the beach.

Just found this out playing this course in another society, will definitely keep in mind for rounds 3 and 4....never knew it was there, shows how much I take notice ๐.... thanks for the heads up. .....-12 first 2 rounds by the way.

Loved the course, thought it was a great major venue. And the conditions were tough but good for a major. Played well overall, kept bogeys to a minimum. Wish I could have a 1st round 3 footer back where I didn't focus and just jabbed at it and missed. Lost my swing in the 4th round and made too many errors and couldn't get it done. Currently tied for the lead on PS4 leaderboard with Gary at -31, but if it holds (unlikely, I see somebody is in at -28 after 3), he wins in a tie breaker. Great shooting Gary.
Edit: Really hoping you take this one Gary. Last week I beat you with a miracle shot on 18. I was playing with your ghost in the 4th round this week, and I think you sunk a semi-miraculous bunker shot on 17 for eagle that ended up beating me.

I also had a 3 footer miss somewhere that's bugged me since Sunday. You won outright last week which is better than a countback, so deserved whatever bounce you got. Course & set up was right which kept me engaged even through the VH winds, if they ain't used right it just ruins the game. So kudos to the selector. Anyway cheers Titan, winner takes all next week...

Just finished up at -37... I have no earthly idea where that came from lol. Currently 6 clear of 2nd place, with just Garcia and a couple others left on the course by the looks of it (gulp).

Cheers, I putted my ass off this week. Enjoyed the course, tough test for sure.
I'd say this outranks my other PGA win, the Bermuda Championship (no offence to the good folks at the Bermuda Championship).
