Guys I barely remembered half of these holes, so I sure as hell knew you wouldn't.

Edited mine out of shame I am surprised you don't have holes from Hollingbourne on your list. As I remember, 10 and 15 was very good (and - as with all such lists, worthy of the top spot for those holes)

Edited mine out of shame I am surprised you don't have holes from Hollingbourne on your list. As I remember, 10 and 15 was very good (and - as with all such lists, worthy of the top spot for those holes) It’s really tricky and 10 at Hollingbourne was definitely a personal favourite. When push came to shove, if I felt something was close to unique or innovative, that pushed it over. With 10 at Kaiuma, it is a crazy long par three which forces ground game and playing into areas and slopes in a way that few other par threes in game do to quite that level. 15 at Greenstone was always going to be there. It’s the OG for a hole design that has appeared on near enough every single course I’ve built since then in different formats, but this is still the purest version for me. Honestly never loved that Hollingbourne 15th - too much retaining wall and Pete Dye influence for my typical tastes! I think this whole exercise is really tough in that, for me, it’s not about the 18 best holes I’ve made - it’s as much about flow and realising where you tend to compromise on routing when building a course. For example, I’m not surprised that I found 16 and 17 really tough to pick - I tend to be thinking ahead when routing to set up 18 and whilst I have a lot of 16-17ths I like, I rarely get one that I think is a killer blow at that point; it’s always building into 18 in terms of flow and position. Also, I still think Black Salt is my best course by a mile yet that gets one hole in this... just the way it all fell. Fun exercise for sure and I reckon I might come up with a few different holes if I did it from scratch this evening.

I have encountered several courses where I thought 18 was a disappointment - Alcanada really comes to mind there (and if you haven't heard of it yet - the worst hole I have ever played is the 18th on Land GK (earlier Randsfjorden GK - it has nothing to do with golf - I mentioned it in the "worst hole" thread).. And indeed - you are restricted in real life to end up relative close to the clubhouse. But for fictional and fantasy courses - you have much more freedom to choose the location of the clubhouse etc or just ignore the fact that you end up there, and also ignore walking distances etc. As you probably know, I have not played all your courses - but I do remember some very good holes on Hollingbourne - and as golfers, we will always come across differences in taste If I remember correctly, the 15th was the short par 4 with retaining walls on the left where I think you can reach the green on big drives?

That's the one - easily the most contrived hole on the course lol. It played well, but was definitely forced!

Oh sure, obviously the best 18 holes in the game. Alphasand Dunes 1-18. Except maybe Fisheye 17. That's such an original hole idea that it might beat out one of those holes.

This is most definitely not an excuse for me to post 11 at Tufts East for the twentieth time. Anyways, 1) Matador #1 - Par 4, 390 yds. 2) Tufts - West #2 - Par 5, 535 yds. 3) Tufts - West #3 - Par 3, 205 yds. 4) Catoosa #4 - Par 5, 590 yds. 5) Tufts - East #5 - Par 4, 295 yds. 6) Catoosa - #6 - Par 4, 340 yds. 7) Tufts - East #7 - Par 4, 430 yds. 8) Olde Mill #8 - Par 3, 180 yds. 9) Tufts - East #9 - Par 4, 355 yds. 10) Sakiyawa #10 - Par 4, 490 yds. 11) Tufts - East #11 - Par 3, 130 yds. 12) Sakiyawa #12 - Par 4, 390 yds. 13) Tufts - East #13 - Par 4, 285 yds. 14) Catoosa #14 - Par 4, 305 yds. 15) Tufts - West #15 - Par 5, 550 yds. 16) Tufts - West #16 - Par 4, 410 yds. 17) Sakiyawa #17 - Par 4, 495 yds. 18) Tufts - East #18 - Par 4, 440 yds. Par 72, 6,815 yds. 4 drivable Par 4s. Had 6 originally but ended up replacing a couple. In a couple courses time, I'll probably be able to make an Eclectic 18 of just drivable 4s.
