Alamiss Village Golf Club
Fictional course located along the Alabama-Mississippi coastline, so I'd suggest using the weather for maybe Destin, Pensacola, or Gulf Shores when you play. The usual winds would be, in-game, "North" or "Northeast", since they use the direction it blows towards. I'm guessing that most of the good players will keep winds at least medium for the challenge of sea breezes.
The generously large greens are "fast" by default, but being on the Gulf, I only set firmesses at moderate. It gets hot, but not so dry to make things 'hard'. Some swales on them, and if you find the greenside sand, most of the time it's a lob to get back up. I tried to mix up pin locations so at each set (1-4) you encounter at least a handful of the 'harder' placements. I found pin 2 to be pretty challenging, tbh. I worked on making the bunkers as good as possible, but there's no way to really ensure they'll cost you a shot. Bunker play is just not that hard in-game (or IRL for pros).
The plot of land is open to the coastal road at one end, with some old dunes framing holes on both nines, while the back of the tract is still wooded, awaiting development. There are a couple of neighborhoods already sold & built. Along the two-lane coastal road, there is a fairly large hotel that you play past on #4, and a few other businesses that may come into view.
No cartpaths on this effort, just a closely mowed strip on each hole. It's a very walkable course (would it be cool to have that option, to 'walk' between shots ? Or at least an eye-level flycam from one shot to another). I realize the background is a wee bit hilly for the suggested locale, but since the flatter Delta-theme background is an island, I chose the lesser of two evils, imo. I also did not detail all of the houses that you SHOULDN'T play near, so sticklers beware ! Many, but not all bunkers have a rake nearby, and there are a couple of restrooms on each nine. OB exists around the neighborhoods, so you might try and steer clear of anyone's back yard here.
I play XB1 with Pro clubs, and from the back tees, so that's how most of the playtesting was done. I did go around with Masters once or twice, and it seems to balance out hazard placement for each set. That said, if you play from the middle or short tees using Pro or Master, it will likely be a much easier 18 holes. Also, the 'slow' & 'very slow' settings on the greens can really be a challenge, plus you get rainbows !
#1 - Have a birdie on the Bobaloo ! An easy opener, default wind will come across from R-L.
#3 - With a tailwind, you might reach the front fairway from the tee, but the usual headwind will help keep a layup from running through. A big green that slopes up, so don't expect a ton of rollout.
#4 - Past the hotel, a pretty straightforward hole.
#5 - Fade or play over the trees to stay right, it's esy to run through this fairway. For your second, the wide open left fairway is a shorter carry, but leaves you playing towards the water on your 3rd, while a shot over the treeline to the waterside fairway is longer, but leaves you shooting straight up the green. If you choose the wide side, be careful to stay right of center.
#6 - This par 3 seems lightly guarded, but you'll be surprised how hard this green can be with the shadows any other time but noon. And that water is closer than you think with a wind from the west.
#7 - Not too much to think about here, but you'll still want to keep the putt short. Into the default wind, it's hard to reach in two, but when a cold front blows through, it's definitely an eagle chance.
#8 - Best spot is far right beyond the tree, so you can get up & over the corner. IF you end up left, then a slicing punch shot is your best play to this green with a deep 'hole' bunker in front.
#9 - Stay left from the tee - from the white tees, you'll draw it a bit. If not, then a fade will be your second shot
#10- Any damage to parked cars is the golfer's responsibility, LOL. Pretty easy to stick it close here, but the back side is mowed short, so long shots will roll to deep stuff .
#11- Check the pin location before choosing your second shot, and choosing a fairway option. Plays less quirky than it looks.
#12- Short, but into the wind. A valley-style green (not truly Biarritz) so better to loft it in than run it up. A good birdie opportunity, but mis-club and three putts are possible, for sure.
#13- Accurate drive needed here for sure, but L or R ends up in rough, while a center miss leaves you 150yds from the trap. If you end up on the wrong green level a par would be 'job well done'
#14- Last par 3, into the wind one more time, which makes the front right pin more tempting despite the bunkers
#15- Another green with distinct tiers to target and a deep bunker to avoid, this hole is eagleable when that front comes through and winds are from the W/NW. The green encourages a draw into the back tier to keep the bunker out of play.
#16- First of two mildly 'heroic' holes. A long drive over the rise leaves you a decision with a row of bunkers, trees and a doughnut green to factor in. Or you can lay up and just give up on that eagle chance ...
#17- The driveable Par 4 all players love to see at some point, but fairly penal for coming up short & anything but straight. If you can't reach it, maybe best lay up. Really, even if you have to drop a ball, par should be had - but you'll likely lose a shot to the field.
#18- Your final hole is another birdie waiting to be had, although it only takes a couple of yards astray to turn that into a bogey. The final fairway is slightly crowned, but the green is pretty receptive, so go out on a high note !
If you liked this round of golf, please click on "More by this Designer" and play some of my earlier creations. Lake Parr, Dormie City, Lake Babalu, and more. They aren't the works of art OR total immersion that some folks provide, but I think most golfers (especially IRL ones) will enjoy a round or two. Think of these as the kind of places you'd find when you turned in at the "18 HOLES * PUBLIC WELCOME" sign at the vacant corner while road tripping with the clubs in the trunk.
